Dark brown leather couch and matching love seat for $100 (obo). Check out the pics on Craigs List. Definitely have a few tears from dog, but the couches are still comfy and structurally sound!

wslifer: who voted for a tunnel?

oh, you mean the cut-and-cover vote in 2007? that proposal lost 70/30.

    the elevated proposal lost 60/40.

i could just as easily say, “we voted to replace the viaduct with an elevated structure. we won. move on.”

i understand that everyone’s in a hurry to replace AWV with the most expensive and least certain option, but let’s not rewrite history.

Well, I got an engagement vintage convertible and I loved it — we finally sold it a couple of years ago because it wasn’t likely to stay vintage in our Seattle weather.

But Carnelius (’69 Red Chrysler Newport with black leather seats and red fuzzy dice) meant love — accepting who I was and what I wanted (instead of what the world wanted me to want.)

My first marriage included the obligatory diamond, impressive at the time but, honestly, I can’t remember it at all. :-)

This is a thread from two-years ago and just wondering if anyone has updated advice before I call the above businesses? We just purchased VW Eurovan, and the sliding door often won’t close all the way. I’ve heard this is a notorious problem with Eurovans. So it doesn’t need a dent fixed, but something with the tracking of the door. I guess a collision place could do this??

    Thanks!

    That’s a slam dunk –

    Habitat for Humanity!

[Edit: 21 South Nevada Street, Seattle

And if you or anyone else happen to discover you have any exterior primer you’re hot to get rid of – the King County Sheriff’s Office Storefront in WC on 16th desperately needs donations for their Graffiti Removal efforts. They don’t have any funding from the county for it and it’s all donations as well.

No, seriously thought it was funny and lucky chick could certainly have done it on purpose…”irony”. You don’t have to share my sense of humor.

Lucky chick, FWIW I agree with you. To West Seattle Art Attack: why would you not make the same comments to hammerhead that you made to lucky chick? Hammerhead is giving advice based on her line of work, just as lucky chick is, only hammerhead’s statements are only tenuously based in any fact. Her statements (on this particular thread and elsewhere on the blog) mainly serve her own purposes.

To the O.P.: I’d seriously consider some of the other suggestions here. Coyote (or other predator) urine is supposed to be fairly effective at deterring rodents, and there are plenty of other effective pest control methods. Even the dog suggestion is decent, but only if you actually have time to spend with a dog and are up for the commitment. Obviously you shouldn’t just get a terrier and leave him to his own devices. :-) Good luck!

Honestly, hammerhead, I’m not trying to insult anyone (and I don’t appreciate your nastiness) but it’s clear from your last post that you don’t have a science background. The one little sliver of a topic I’m actually qualified to speak on is the impact of urbanization on songbirds. I’ll certainly not post here again, but if the people considering letting cats loose want to discuss this, I’d very much like to hear what they have to say and welcome the opportunity for discussion. They can contact me directly at gavia_immer1960@yahoo.com.

‘Tis the season, is it not HH?

I’m getting ready to adopt a brother for my young buddy, and my vet friend told me to just wait, the Spring crop was already in the ovens.

She’s a little bit crass, but I think you understand.

Seriously WS, I’m probably one of your lower income residents, and I was STILL able to get my little guy neutered in a timely fashion.

BE RESPONSIBLE! If you can’t afford the care, you can’t afford the animal!

How many more millions of house cats (and FCATs!) do we really need every year?

Good luck in your search silverfox. Moxie and I are rooting for you and your little pal to find each other ASAP.

I’ve seen President Obama accused of being an extremist from ALL ENDS of the political spectrum, when he is OBVIOUSLY a DNC centrist (another name for that type of political animal is pre-1980’s Republican).

First of all, thanks to HH and Cait for saying what a lot of us were thinking.

Silverfox, don’t despair. One of the Katskys got out, was spotted by a few people (but we couldn’t find him.) Bottom line: our handyperson locked the basement door, but didn’t shut it tightly, and spot katsky pushed his way in that night. He was obviously trying to get back home and did, at his first chance. He’s declawed and strictly an indoor cat, but he survived for three weeks. Our vet said he’s obviously a very wiley alpha cat.

Good luck! The katskys are all sending “go home you silly cat” messages your cat’s way.

the reason i said you need a lot of video memory and a good card is because you’ll be running a lot of applications like adobe acrobat – and others – that will require you to zoom in on details in drawings. you’ll want the ability to manipulate that information without having to wait for your video card and CPU to catch up to your commands.

remember: you’ll get what you pay for. and if you have to make a presentation to clients, i’m sure you don’t want to waste a lot of embarrassing downtime waiting on a slow, generic, off-the-shelf computer.

Seriously, Lucky Chick, how dare you? This poor woman is missing her cat. Don’t you think that if a cat is qualified as “missing” that it’s LIKELY an indoor cat? And even if there’s a chance that you gave this 2 seconds of thought before posting, didn’t you think it was worth giving this person the benefit of the doubt given that they are clearly upset and worried about their cat? And maybe this isn’t the time to make them feel bad about any part of this? I’m sorry, this makes me really really mad. I often shudder at the thought that people from outside West Seattle read this forums and get THIS kind of impression of us.

Silverfox, first of all I am sending you all the good luck I can muster. I’m not in the area, but the next time I am I will keep an eye out for your kitty. Second, please PLEASE don’t think that everyone here is judging you – those of us who are not seeking avidly to model our judgey pants feel for you. This could happen to anyone. As an indoor cat owner, one of my biggest fears is one of my cats squeezing past me out the door one day. I’m so sorry that this is a reality for you and that your concerns and request for help was met with any negativity.

Also – can we just recognize that we have a resident cat expert here on WSB in hammerhead? Can we unofficially just agree to defer to her on this stuff before *tsk tsk*ing?

Avoid Celeron, Neo and Atom chipsets (cheap but too slow). Buy one with Windows 7 and at least 2gb of RAM. They do not come with MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) so you will have to budget for that or download open source substitutes. (openoffice.org). The reason you want Win7 over XP is that XP is just too vulnerable to hackers.

You don’t need a kick ass video chip.

Thinkpads and Dell are the most reliable. Toshiba is a close 3rd. Sony is a beautiful porcelain doll (very delicate).

Other than that you can decide based on size, weight and other personal preferences.

Everyone has been on the topic of Admiral Ways speeding sting lately. But I have never seen a post about the speeding on Avalon, has anyone noticed that the cars and emergency vehicles go extremely fast on this street at all hours of the day everyday!

It’s already extremely dangerous for us/ anyone who lives on it (Avalon) to make a left or right turn out on to the street due to the parking on the side of the street and the people who fly up and down the hill. All I can say is that I must have one heck of a guardian angel keeping me safe.

But the slight curve of the road near Genesee where people are constantly crossing the road to get to the bus stops certainly brings up some concern, especially when fire trucks/ and cop cars are screaming down the road. Yes, I understand that they need to get to the actual emergency but at what risk. The fire trucks actually have their sirens on more then the cops who just give it a whoop whoop. Someone is going to get killed one of these days.

As someone who lives on Avalon Way- this is my opinion

My first job in Seattle was in at a small office. It wasn’t bad for the first few years. And then the head of the company, a rather arrogant fellow, decided to have an affair with one of the account executives. Both parties were married. In fact, the boss’s nice, attractive wife worked at the same company, and his two very cool teenaged sons worked there in the summer. A horrible, sleazy soap opera ensued. “Awkward” would be an understatement. The company ended up going kaput.

if you’re using it for project management, you obviously want a fast wireless ethernet card, a killer video card, lots of (whatever passes for) RAM (these days), a fast USB hub, and a fast processor. i’d look for a system built around those things and pay less attention to peripherals like CD’s and audio.

there was a thread about this not too long ago, and ken seems to be WSB’s best forum resource – or at least the most prolific poster – for hardware-related questions:

The W Hotel. I was a bellhop over at Cavanaughs for a couple years before taking a job as a bellhop over at the W before they opened. After the W opened, they stuck me on graveyard’s because of my experience supposedly. It was about a month later I found out from friends that were bellhops at the Four Seasons that all the folks at the W’s front desk area were hired from modeling agencies. I guess I should of been flattered I was the only one not from a modeling agency. But at the same time, I felt slapped being that I was stuck on graveyard where nobody made any tips. It became really hard to support my family at that point. So I quit a month and half into it and joined the USAF to become an F16 Crew Chief. Best choice I ever made employment wise.

Yes, since right wing interests have managed to erase the history of the labor movement from school curriculum we seem to be doomed to repeat the struggle for workers rights. Just shows you that greed never sleeps.

We found the slip cover we used to have with this couch, and will include it. It is sage, and makes the couch like very nice. The slip cover is in very good condition. We just posted it on craigslist, pics included in the link:

PS- what the legislators are doing is not only not cowardly, its heroic. It’s providing the time for public energy to come together and assert itself. If they had allowed the bill to pass quickly it would have stifled the enthusiasm of the people to protest it, exactly what the dictatorial gov had hoped for.

They can’t stay away forever and the bill may well still be passed over their objections but now its been exposed for the travesty that it is and people are seeing the true face of their gov. It was covered with many layers of right wing Koch Bros. money during the election.

yeah, sydney, and to make matters worse, the 112th congress – in the middle of the night, DC time – passed a whole slew of amendments to their spending bill which cut the teeth out of EPA’s ability to enforce environmental laws.

as each amendment passed (along party lines mostly) one could hear the cheers of the corporate lobbyists in the gallery.

funny sidenote: doc hastings (R-WA) was speaker pro-tem.

“House lawmakers spent much of the four day debate working through the nearly 600 amendments filed on the 359-page measure. Some key amendments that have passed include: blocking the FCC from implementing net neutrality regulation, banning federal funds to Planned Parenthood and other amendments aimed to defund the national health-care law.

    here’s a beauty:

    91. H.AMDT.101 to H.R.1 An amendment numbered 466 printed in the Congressional Record to prohibit use of funds by EPA to implement, administer, or enforce any statutory or regulatory requirement pertaining to emissions of greenhouse gases.

dhg- you are so right about the Social Security “loan”. I wish everyone knew this but it seems to be a well kept secret. After Reagan slashed the tax rate for the rich and corporations and ended up scrambling for money to keep the government afloat, Greenspan knew exactly where to steal the cash. All of us have our false idols, unfortunately Greenspan’s is capitalism in its extreme and also, unfortunately, he had the ear of leaders.
