“Freedom is the birthright and deep desire of every human soul, and spreading freedom’s blessings is the calling of our time. And when freedom and democracy take root in the Middle East, America and the world will be safer and more peaceful.”

What crazy whack-job would ever say that?

    Smitty…

i don’t think this is what George W had in mind..

after all.. those kids in the street are muslims.

and they don’t have democracy yet.

    they have military rule

it remains to be seen what that will mean.

but i admit to smiling this morning

i haven’t sen that kind of energy since the 60s…

    it warms my heart.

Same dumb a** that thought spreading all that freedom at the point of a gun would be a good idea.

The people of Egypt just showed you and the other neo-con fanboys what a non-violent revolution looks like. Would have been nice if we’d had some grown-ups running the government the last time we saw challenges in the Middle East instead of a bunch of cowardly Reagun retreads that wanted to play with their guns and bombs.

BTW, you don’t think GWB actually wrote those words, do you?

Seeds take awhile to grow. I think they are sprouting.

“BTW, you don’t think GWB actually wrote those words, do you?”

    Not sure.

But I am about 99% sure that he didn’t read them from a tele-prompter.

I really doubt seeds of peace are sprouting. Heck, people can’t even agree on what the speed limit should be on Admiral Way.

You think GWB didn’t use a teleprompter?! Did you ever watch any of his speeches where he looks directly into the camera and never looks at any notes? Do you even know how a teleprompter works? The whole telepromter meme amazes me but if you really believe GWB never used a teleprompter that tells me a little more about your capacity to discern reality from fantasy. Kind of like the “seeds” statement.

BTW, just saw Obama’s statement on Egypt and saw him look down at his notes several times during his speech.Apparently he can speak with or without a telepromter.

Um, Dobro, 200-300 people have died in the Egyptian uprising. I don’t think “non-violent” is quite the right word.

The violence of which you speak was fomented by the Mubarak gov’t thugs against the protesters. The actions of the protesters have been non-violent. That’s what I’m talking about.

smitty: w’s handlers also invented a speech flip-book for him to lay flat on the podium. it had giant words – probably outline-style highlights – so he could read it with his peripheral vision. he mastered the technique of looking the opposite direction while he was flipping the page so it wasn’t so obvious.

that was for his “impromptu” speeches. he also used a teleprompter.

he’s not a tenth the orator obama is, with or without the prompter. are you honestly telling me you’ve never seen obama give a speech without a prompter? i have.

I do not think that freedom in EVERY humans birthright or their desire. I am sure there are some that long for the days of communism, where they had a guaranteed job and a place to live…never mind the lines for food. I just do not think everyone is cut out for democracy as evidenced by the pitiful turn-outs at election time.

RB, agreed. Obama is 10 x the orator – I just find it funny that so many people equate intelligence with how well you give a speech. Gore and Kerry were way better speakers than Bush (well, who isn’t?), but when college transcripts were revealed – Bush had better grades then both of them. We don’t know if that would hold true for Obama because he won’t release them. Note: I am not a “birther”, more of a “grader”, I guess? I personally think he probably had incredible grades but there is something on his application he doesn’t want out there – not sure what.

it would be incredibly uncommon to become editor of the law review without excellent grades…

“Gore and Kerry were way better speakers than Bush (well, who isn’t?), but when college transcripts were revealed – Bush had better grades then both of them.”

    when comparing transcripts..

it’s helpful to look at class content..

    Having met Bush younger once..

back when his mother thought the other son was the real contender

i can attest to the fact that he wasn’t what you would call a scintillating conversationalist either.

    As for that elusive scandal…

don’t you think it’s time that you started looking for something with current content?

All pursuing scandals in the Clinton presidency got us was Monica .. oh… and a huge bill… and enough distraction for Osama’s merry little band to slip through the cracks…

Ultimately.. that was one very expensive witch hunt.

“…something on his application he doesn’t want out there – not sure what.”

since you’re jumping to conclusions, try this one-maybe even when a person is as major a figure as a president, he/she might like to maintain some semblance of normalcy/privacy rights like the rest of us might like to have. Especially about things that have no relevance to the current job. As JoB mentioned and you yourself admit, from the positions he held in college we can surmise that his grades were good. Why does that matter unless you feel the need to jump to the conspiracy theory (there must be something…) conclusion?

    redblack..

    I should have specified…

    President Bush younger :)

back in my party days we attended the same party once.

    dobro…

    don’t forget his ethics…

if the law school had found any ethics violations he never would have become editor of the law review…

and i am guessing they had access to his full transcripts

from kindergarten on if they wanted them :)

Hey RedBlack – that avatar of yours is using a teleprompter! I can tell by the way it’s eyes are fixated … waiting for the next line of text to move up the screen….

As to GWB and obama… my quick and dirty research found… GWB did not like Teleprompters – made him nervous – preferred extra large cards… but did use one or the other for delivering important speeches.

Two articles about GWB and Tele-prompters.

Oh come now. Telepromptors have been used by many of the past few Presidents. Bush ad libbed better at times, and sometimes not so good, but hammered words at a high frequency. Obama is AWESOME when using a promptor but when he is ad libbing, he struggles until he finds the words too. Ummmm, ahhhh, uuuummmm, … And he uses the promptor more than any other President, and he should because he is great at it. Ask Snookie.

    They are only human.

But I have only been able to read the posts. I will read the links tonight.

I’m not too concerned that our President doesn’t memorize his speeches. If we wanted someone who could deliver lines we would elect an actor. Oooops, already effed up and did THAT!

And what’s the big deal about releasing his college transcripts? They were obviously stellar. The whack-jobs on the farreich ALREADY think he is a commie pinko Marxist socialist fascist (because the really don’t know a damned thing about politics) anti-colonialist (like America’s Founders!) from Kenya, and the only reason they voted for Gee Whiz is because he seemed like someone they wanted to have a beer with.

And they are just a big bunch of fraidy-cats who are startled by their own shadows.

If our President releases what are probably some pretty amazing college transcripts, ALL we will hear from the VERY SAME PEOPLE is how he is just an intellectual elitist snob.

So Smitty, damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t. Right? There REALLY IS NOTHING he could do that would bring you even part way to his side.

And all of that they simply base on the fact that his parents gave him the middle name Hussein, nearly 50 years ago….
