“You mean the drivel by the Obama Hitler’s too?”
Can you translate that into English, please?
I am often embarrassed or sad for the numerous people who never learned basic pronoun usage and while they could be accomplished or talented in many areas, they mark themselves as super ignorant by saying things such as…”Her and I went to the store yesterday.”
As to the most common confusion of the proper word usage I hear so often deals with the confusion between the proper usage of either “obtuse” or “abstruse”. So many self important writers and orators get this wrong it signals intelligence deficits as readily as the pronoun gaffes. I’ve heard professors say “My quantum mechanics and string theory class is often too ‘obtuse’ for students to comprehend.” Nooooooo, “obtuse” means dull, imperceptive, or slow to understand (as well as an angle greater than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees). The word obtuse is usually applied to a person or people and their behavior. The proper word to use when referring to written text or arguments/teaching/discussions which are deep, complex, highly abstract, and hard to understand is “abstruse”. The proper use of “Obtuse” would be…”Only an obtuse blogger repeatedly confuses propaganda with reality.”
wow…obviously she doesn’t get to Alki much to see the number of now permanent poles…
Another piece to this cluster-f is that the signal light moving northbound at 35th/Fauntleroy is very short and clogs cars into the intersection of Avalon/35th. A second element is that it is not legal to turn left turn from southbound 35th to Avalon from 3-7pm. This forces northern Junction/Admiral traffic off 35th over to Oregon, then to Avalon eastbound from Fauntleroy.
As the Triangle and Alaska Junction grows with multiple building projects, no matter which mode of transportation you choose, its going to add to the congestion. More bikes won’t speed up the traffic. More busses won’t speed up the traffic. If you multiply the numbers of these modes, they do come with their downside risks during rush hour and the Gateway to WS is not built to handle it 5-10 years down the road. These are minor tweaks that don’t look at the bigger picture. S-DOT seriously needs to step up its projections and traffic plans to meet these obvious growth trends because at this rate, its not working out for anybody. You can add 2000 new bikers to WS, but it won’t make that much of a dent in traffic reduction when you look at all those new dwellings on the planning books. Same with busses and the “bulb theory”. You can welcome the growth, but you can’t convince me that mass transit (at this rate) will solve congestion for ANY mode of transportation. I feel like S-DOT is in the same bed as Seattle Public Schools when it comes to assessing growth data.
I get aggressively responsive when people talk like this and I feel my safety is threatened.
We shall ignore the implied threat in your post.
I will defend myself with my cane and stumble slowly away when you come to my house to defend your safety. :)
The arterial starts at California and Oregon headed south, where the left turn is provided because there is no more left turns allowed for several blocks. Sometimes one and sometimes two lanes take traffic from north of the junction to two lanes turning on to Fauntleroy. Both of these lanes carry commuters (mingled with the Vashon ferry racers) to the bridge of your choice via Fauntleroy or Avalon. The left turn onto 35th provided a relief valve so those turning left did not clog up the single lane to Avalon.
If your outlook is so bicycle centric that you do not see this as something that will be sorely missed by damn near everyone who does not work downtown, then there is nothing I can do about that but do my best to make sure you compatriot (the current Mayor) is not returned to office. The damage is done and I am happy you got something you really wanted.
In this case the wants of the few are triumphant over the needs of the many.
Enjoy.
edit: that should be “right turn on to 35th” oops.
I also live in this same area on an alley that this guy leaves substantial quantities cat food. He usually puts a huge pile of dry cat food on a piece of cardboard and I’ve also watched him go around and put smaller piles around in various out of the way places (I think he knows that some of us remove the food after he has left so he sorta hides some around). From my observation most of the cats that actually come around and feed and let him pet them (at least while he is there are not feral but are just neighbors cats). The biggest problem I have with the guy is that he leaves so much cat food that just attracts every critter around. There is at least one large coon that seems to have no fear of humans roaming around this alley and the crows are out there all day filling up on cat food plus I’m sure there is an abundance of rats around with all the garbage cans and dumpsters. FCAT can you elaborate on what you mean when you say this guy is difficult? I have been meaning to talk to this guy myself and ask him not to leave food behind. The guy obviously enjoys having the cats come around and petting them, frequently he hangs out and pets them for 30 minutes or more before moving further down the alley.
A host family is needed for a foreign exchange student who will be attending West Seattle High School for the 13/14 school year. A potential host family is needed for the following students: a girl from Germany, who enjoys track and field, shopping, photography, ballet dancing, loves music and plays the guitar, or a boy from Brazil, who speaks Spanish, English and Portuguese, enjoys technology and is very active in Taekwondo, or a girl from Bolivia, who enjoys, drawing, painting, taking photos, cooking and playing tennis, or a boy from China, who enjoys playing basketball and swimming, music and singing, travelling and also enjoys going to museums, or a girl from South Korea, who has advanced English skills, she participates in the math and newspaper clubs in her school, enjoys travelling and photography, or a boy from Mexico who is very outgoing, loves soccer and volleyball and basketball and enjoys music or a girl from Slovakia, she enjoys meeting new people and likes cooking and yoga. She also enjoys art and loves animals, or a boy from South Korea who is very hard working and enjoys school, playing soccer and basketball and loves to volunteer.
Students come with good English skills, their own insurance and spending money, and mainly the desire to be a member of an American family. Host families do not need to have teenagers of their own; young families as well as empty nesters are excellent high school student hosts this year.
For more information about these students or others and the program, contact Jamin Henderson at 360-661-0552 or j.henderson33@hotmail.com. http://www.iseusa.com
timeslid,
We volunteer at Schmitz Park Preserve and know that we can use some ground cover plants that are native and non-invasive. Contact Dylan Mendenhall (schmitzpreserve@gmail.com) to see if he can use them. It may take awhile for him to respond, if you need to get rid of them, email us and we will come and get them.
Thanks,
NyE
I think if you are not aware of this, you should be. An envelope was dropped on my porch yesterday that contains the ‘great’ news that we, the taxpayers of America, are now funding free W-Fi to the residents of High Point. Let’s do a rundown: cheap housing (some rents as low as $50), discounted utilities, discounted/free food, landscapers, and so much more and now, free Wi-Fi, something the rest of us budget for and pay for.
This is being funded by the “generous support from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act”, this “free service is provided by the non-profit, One Economy.” The mousepad included in the envelope has AT&T printed on it, so it is probably a safe assumption their stockholders are profiting from this venture in some way.
I am mad. Our country’s pockets are only so deep…So, if you want to cancel your Internet and come use the Wi-Fi that you and I are so generously providing for all of these residents (many of whom are not U.S. citizens), come park in the neighborhood! BTW, for those who haven’t followed any of my previous posts, we are renting (16 days left!) from a homeowner, paying full price, and are closing on a home. It couldn’t happen soon enough.
Sarah, here’s a funny one for you and I wish a cop was there to explain to me who was wrong…LOL.
I live down by Sanislo Elem. One day I was heading south on 18th and came to a traffic circle by the school. I had a minivan tailgating me the whole time. Anyways, as I approached the traffic circle, I turn my left blinker on. Now coming south on 18th to this traffic circle, I feel is unsafe to make the immediate left. You can’t see left or right do to obstructions on the corners, let alone see oncoming cars as they come up a hill. So, with my blinker on for a left turn, I use the counterclockwise method to this traffic circle. However, crazy minivan guy behind me, decides he’s going to take the left immediately. Now I find myself staring at minivan man’s tail lights as he speeds away from me. Two cars, turning left at a traffic circle…at the same time, who’s in the right? Or left? Oh, I quit…LOL.
I used to work in SLU and would take the 54 (now the C) to 3rd and Pine, hop on the Trolley and make it there in about 45 minutes. Same thing home – the bus is actually really relaxing. Also, i think there are some Amazon shuttles that pick up/drop off at the bus terminal and take you to the campus – I would ask about that.
I’m starting a job at Amazon this week, but haven’t quite figured out my commute. Anyone interested in sharing a ride/expenses for a daily trip to SLU?
Other ideas are also welcome. Parking or Car2Go solo would be spendy and buses would take forever. Tricky…
That’s part of the point. If you just say, “I don’t care if they listen to me and my conversations”, that’s the type of attitude they want you to have. Obviously then you don’t care about your freedoms and the Constitution. There is such a thing which is called “probable cause.” They have to have probable cause to listen to me. Am I a terrorist? of course not. And so aren’t millions of other’s. They just can’t grab my sensitive information and doodle through it.
Hello I have a, for lack of a better phrase, “bedroom weight bench” for sale. It is ideal for teens, females or smaller build men. It is light weight and ideal for light workouts, not heavy olympic style lifting. Someone who wants to come home from work and bench press to stay toned would really benefit from this. The fame is light, it is very easy to move and even pick up by one person. Bar and many weights ranging from 2 pounds to 20 pounds allow you to adjust to your liking and tone your body. Wonderful to use and assist with crunches and even pilates.
Best offer gets it but please do not waste my time with a $20 offer. You have to offer me at least enough to make it worth not having…otherwise I’ll just keep it and keep working out with it.
You haul it. Cash only. No BS.

Typical.
Makes endless, derogatory remarks about those that are less fortunate, then can’t handle the “slap-down” of being called out on it.
Mike
When you remember JoB and miws for not getting a big charge out of ‘slapping down’ someone with a different view of squatters on public land.
JoB…This is not about if you don’t care if they listen to you or not, and Jan.. it was taking place during Bush’ term as well, so, Obama doesn’t get all the credit for the blame just because he’s the President now. Part of the point here is the more you let the government decide in how to eliminate your freedom and liberties (Which is our right and written in the Constitution), the next thing you’ll know is they’ll tell you when you can eat, sleep and shet like you’re behind bars and then there is nothing left to live for. Why do you think other countries have thousands that protest in the streets all the time? its because they are being treated like animals who have no rights, like they are currently doing in Turkey. There has to be a tipping point in this country soon. We had our own civil war because we wanted freedom. Man.. our forefathers who wrote The Declaration of Independence are rolling over in their graves right now. Our government is taking away our rights and everybody’s just sittng twiddling their thumbs.
“Neighborhood traffic calming circles are much smaller than modern roundabouts and often replace stop signs at four-way intersections. They are typically used in residential neighborhoods to slow traffic speeds and reduce accidents, but are typically not designed to accommodate larger vehicles. Many drivers often turn left in front of the circles rather than turning around them.”
http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Safety/roundabouts/BasicFacts.htm
“How do I turn left at a traffic circle?
State Law does not distinguish between a traffic circle and a larger roundabout. Consequently, a driver turning left at a neighborhood traffic circle must proceed counterclockwise around the traffic circle. However, we recognize that there are instances when drivers may need to turn left before a traffic circle, such as when cars park too closely to the right side of a circle or when a driver can’t maneuver a larger vehicle around to the right. Turning left in front of a traffic circle in those instances can be safely performed if the driver exercises reasonable care and yields to pedestrians, bicyclists, and oncoming traffic.”

I’d say they are both a bit misleading.
I don’t understand people who point out something they feel is wrong by doing something ten times worse. Nuts!
Let’s see, “born in raised in Seattle” and being prior military. I have lived in Las Vegas and D.C. I have traveled extensively on the east coast and in California. Seattle drivers are not much different than New Yorkers or Californians. So I’d be careful labeling Seattle drivers as being horrible. D.C hands down is the worst area I have ever driven in. No one uses a turn signal in Maryland. In Oakland, California, I watched several people change six lanes at a time. In Vegas, everyone is drunk and using their cell phone while driving. In Philly and New York, they honk just to hear themselves honk. At least that is the way it seems to me. In Virginia, holy cow, you think Washington is bad for left lane slow-pokes? Try Viginia where you routinely find someone driving 10 miles below the speed limit in the far left lane. Yes, people in Seattle are horrible at merging. Timid, I don’t know. As for rude drivers, yeah, that is everywhere, not just Seattle. But unless you have the drivers birth certificate, lets keep it real, America has bad drivers and we’re all a little rude.
I know this discussion has taken place here before, but I think it is time to revisit after a recent encounter of mine in High Point.
A couple of Sundays ago, I was on the way to my daughters soccer game at Walt Hundley Field in High Point. Traveling east on Holly from Sylvan Way, I came up to the round-about at Holly and 31st. As I pull up, all directions were clear and I proceeded to make an immediate left instead of pulling all the way around the round-about. Now everything I have read states that is perfectly legal. However, I had some guy behind me start screaming out of his car at me. As I was heading up 31st towards Walt Hundley Field, this dude screams up along side of me on a residential street screaming how I’m going to cause an accident, as if what he was doing was something safe. I asked him what his problem was, and after some nice names he gave me, he say’s I’m suppose to go around the traffic circle. I told him it wasn’t the law and he needs to read up before he tries and runs people off the road on a residential street for not going around a circle. I proceeded on 31st which was extremely congested with parked cars for baseball and soccer games. You could only get one car through at a time in either direction. As I crept though the parked cars, I came face-to-face with an oncoming car. The oncoming car politely squeezed into a space for me to get by, but as they were trying to squeeze into a spot, Mr. Traffic Circle behind me begins honking his horn. I ignore the guy and once the car in front of me clears, I press forward only to find another oncoming car. Again, the oncoming vehicle tries and find a space to clear and sure enough, the guy behind me begins honking again. I stick my head out of my window and scream back at him, “Where to you want me to go? There is a freakin’ car in front of me!” As I make it out of the parking gaunlet, I immediately pull over. But Mr. Traffic Circle speeds off.
Long story short, I make a perfectly legal turn only to be tormented by a man who tries to run me off the road on a residential street, honks endlessly over non-emergency stuff, and speeds off in a park area where hundreds of children are. Some people need to stay out of the sun and just take vitamin d supplements.
Does anybody else have another referral? While Mark Kessler is probably awesome he’s not returning my husbands calls or emails so we’d like to get another name. Thanks!
BUUUUMMMMPPPPP!! :) I sometimes feel badly when I skirt around someone who is crossing the solid white line so that I can get over seamlessly rather than squeezing in.
