Hey Ellenater – I pre-welcome you this wonderful community! We just moved here in October (from Phoenix) and fell completely in love!!

My guy, too, is a lawyer and one of the “good” ones. He doesn’t sue anyone!!! He also works downtown and the commute (for now anyways) is fabulous!

There are SOOO many homes for rent just in our neighborhood. I haven’t done a lot of research, but I see the signs everywhere. We found our place (we are currently renting) through computer searches. But, driving around is a good way to find something if you have the time!

Good luck! If I happen to see something good, I’ll come back here and let you know!

    A note to Caduceus:

If you are the age that you claim to be, I am rather impressed by your original comment and some of your subsequent comments. You are an intelligent young person and I know that you’re not deterred by many of the people that have posted above calling you trolls, naive, etc. You are none of these.

You have something that many of these people believe that they have, but do not. Standards. It’s nice to see a young adult with the intelligence to understand that setting the bar high will make the “greater whole” better, rather than pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Once again, I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you to ignore many of the comments listed above. You live in an area where the majority of people think that you’re wrong. That doesn’t mean at all that you truly are.

PS…If they didn’t teach you in school what bleeding heart liberals are, you got a college education on them in the comments above.

Hi Ellenater – I can totally relate. We moved from NYC in 2004 and originally landed in Lynnwood. I chose Lynnwood because I had friends there and since I always stayed in a hotel there when I visited Seattle, I knew the area. But I decided not long after moving there that I hated it. :) We visited West Seattle because of the Unitarian Universalist congregation we wanted to visit and fell in love with WS and just had to move here – broke our lease in Lynnwood to do it. I hope you will be as happy here as we are!

If I see any signs up for rent, I’ll let you know. But I do want to tell you to stay away from the West Ridge Park apartment complex or any rental run by Allied Management – we used to live there (WRP) and loved it until Allied took over. I do not recommend it.

I’m so sick of looking at your piece of crap, broken down, Sportsman Mobile Home with license plate #501 WJU that sits on Trenton. My neighbors and I have been lenient on reporting you. We usually file a report after 5-7 days of it not being moved, but that’s coming to an end. Your piece of crap blocks the view of traffic and is an eyesore.

My big question is “Why do you keep it when it doesn’t run”? Each time you move it, you tow it and you’ve done this for almost 2 years. Kids have sprayed graffiti on it and you still keep it. You don’t seem to store anything in it.

I never seem to cross paths with you or else I would ask you to your face.

Get it out of the neighborhood, please!

Speaking of Scotty, is anyone planning on buying his book or would it be too painful to read. I remember reading *The Family: real story of the Bush Dynasty* by Kitty Kelley (what a name) a few years ago. Hurt my head. Although the horror known as Barbara made me feel sorry for George for about ten minutes.

Why is the Hamas endorsement a non-issue? Because Obama did not ask for nor in any way celebrate this endorsement. So who benefits from Hamas (a middle-eastern terrorist organization) endorsing any presidential candidate, recognizing that this endorsement only hurts said candidate? Can we say “Republican smear machine”. Karl Rove is providing “guidance” to McCain, sounds like a play from his book if you ask me. Or, hey, don’t ask me, ask Scott McCelland. Now that the cult like hold has loosened it’s grip on his mind, he’s able to recognize the evil he was an instrument of.

    Hi Ellenater!

West Seattle is in my opinion the most fabulous place around to live, raise kids etc etc…around. I’ve lived here for almost 10 years now, and since I work up the road – I almost never have to leave, which is just fine with me!

I felt compelled to do a small search for you, I avioded places that were in “iffy” sections of town due to the fact you have a young child – but nowhere here can be classified as a bad neighborhood.

    Good luck in your search!

Doesn’t say if it has a garage, but the neighborhood is pretty quiet and peaceful, I have lived here in this part of town for nearly three years)

Welcome, ellenator — it’s good to hear a new voice–i’d feel the same if we disagreed. Everyone’s political opinions are personal — politics affect every aspect of our lives and it always scares me when people sneeringly claim something is “political.”

I hope you stick around and jump in on all the political (and other) threads here. And if you have any Republican friends, send them over to back up New Res. Sometimes she must get tired :-)

And they also deliver to N. Admiral. We are fortunate to have Garlic Jims and Pagliacci deliver to our area, but it’s great to have alternatives!

Yay! We finally tried Olympia Pizza and they delivered to Arbor Heights. We’re about as far south as you can go in Seattle city limits and still be in Seattle so it’s really nice to have this option for delivery!

The food was tasty and expeditious!

HI I just thought I’d chime in on this. You guys have probably got it all worked out anyway, but here goes:

I see this time period as very exciting and think the excitement is not due to any one issue. It is a result of this entire election process, both Democratic candidates, the complexity involved in their ‘newness’, and to the urgency to redeem ourselves as a country after this Bush administration.

Personally, I am not a fan of Hillary Clinton. I am a woman and am deeply disturbed by the example she is setting. I feel that there is a lot of misogyny out there, especially in politics, and that her actions in this primary are doing nothing to heal it. In fact, she is exacerbating the issue. I’m not saying she is responsible for misogyny. I am saying she is responsible for her own actions which do nothing to change that mode of being. Every time I turn around, Hillary is doing something that I consider unethical. This is sad to me because I want to want to support her.

I don’t however, think she should drop out. I just don’t think she should make up false reasons to stay in. One does not negate the other although it may appear to. She should stay in the race if she chooses but she should not say she has won the popular vote (by not including caucus states and including Michigan and Florida). This lack of ethics is damaging her credibility and I think it is very revealing of her character. In my mind, Hillary is doing more damage to future female candidates than she is to plowing the road. I wish she would have some grace occasionally and I wish she would speak from her heart. I don’t believe her when she speaks because she strikes me as a desperate opportunist, always changing her story from day to day. Hillary, in my opinion, has primarily earned blind support from feminists and, votes of “working class whites”. I don’t see her as having a broad appeal, despite what her campaign says.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think Barack is perfect, either. But I do think he is running a more ethical campaign and that he exhibits more depth of character than Hillary. My opinions are personal, but they were gleaned from watching the candidates’ actions closely these last few months. I do not think we need a president who knows everything about everything. But I do think we need someone who is capable of realizing they’ve made a mistake and who will work to redeem that mistake. We need someone who will seek help from others and who knows how to compromise when working in a group. We do not an opportunist who lies and disenfranchises entire groups of people to further her own cause. This type of person is not going to be a great leader, regardless of gender or race.

So as a die-hard feminist, I am saddened by Hillary’s actions. I don’t think she is fit to run our country because she does not hold herself ethically accountable in the same way Barack does. And if her supporters were to withhold their votes from another nominee because Hillary was out of the race, then they clearly don’t hold themselves accountable either!

    Thank you for listening.

    Dear West Seattle,

We moved to N. Seattle almost two years ago. We had to move (from Eugene, OR) quickly without a lot of notice due to hubby job. We live in Ravenna. It sucks. It could be worse but it’s not West Seattle. You see, about six months ago we visited West Seattle and fell in love. We love your community spirit, we love your peoples, we love your Sound and, we love your blog, your Farmer’s Market, and we also love your YMCA-so much so that we joined it and come over very often. Now, we are addicted to you and must make the move. So please forgive us for being yet more people, but if you welcome us, you won’t regret it!

Getting to the point: We’re looking for a place to rent. We have pets (a cat and small dog). We have good refs. Hubby is a nice kind of lawyer and works downtown. I do art and non-profit and am finishing some classes online. Our eight year old son is quirky and excels at describing things in great detail, as well as climbing doorways and turning around without touching the ground.

We need 2 beds. but three would be nice for an office. We’d like a personal ref. to rent from an honest person/company. We’re flexible on cost but shouldn’t be too high. I like to do yard work and enjoy some degree of privacy. Apartments, Houses, Duplexes, Condos, etc. are all fine. We’re not too picky but it can’t be trashy and it MUST be safe for both humans and vehicle.

So dear city, any help you have would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for being the greatest place in Seattle!

I think it’s *sad* any of the candidates has to prove their religious credentials to run for a *secular* job. What other place of employment requires this craziness? Like it’s really surprising to find skeletons in the closet of Wright or Hagee. Both drunk on power and the limelight, and neither of which should be given any attention.

I don’t know enough about Hamas to guess what their motivation is, unless they wanted to scare Jewish voters into choosing McCain. The rumor mills have been trying to pin Obama as anti-semitic. Making a connection to Hamas would reinforce that impression. Could be a reverse psychology attempt cuz they really want McCain to win.

Very good points, Alki! I’ve written to manufacturers to make suggestions about packaging – like today I bought a product that used to come in a cardboard box but now comes in a plastic container I can’t recycle, so I wrote to them. And I have a trunk full of reusable bags that I take everywhere.

Charla- it is unfortunate that this is the end result for Obama and this church… His interview this evening was not his best.

The church really has given him no other option. Obviously what we’ve already heard and seen about Rev. Wright is going to be a part of the general election campaign. It is just too big of a liability and a wild card, to have the news follow whatever sermon is said at Trinity that week. Rev. Fleger even referred to the fact that what he was about to say is going to be “youtubed” before he went into his speech. You can’t let that dictate the campaign…

I have a different take on today then BeachDrGrl. I thought the entire exercise was disgraceful and really shows the extreme weakness inherent to much of the DNC establishment. Obama conceded to things that made no logical sense, and punished him for obeying the rules set forth by the committee. He did so, obviously because he could, and as an attempt to unify the party.

Now, Clinton got her big victory, in that Mich and Florida now have results, and trust me- tonight she will continue to question Obama’s legitimacy, make her popular vote argument, and her spokespeople like Ickes, will continue with the notion that the party “hijacked” delegates from her.

Clinton supporters will still be on Mars, and feel unrepresented. Obama supporters will feel like there candidate gave more then was necessary. Clinton is going to declare victory Sunday night, and Obama will actually hit the magic number and win on Tuesday night.

The Clinton supporters chanting “MCCain” outside of the meeting today were disgraceful. The reason we aren’t hearing more of this from Obama’s side is because he is obviously going to be the nominee…

All in all, I would say this was one of the worst days for the democratic party in recent memory. And I can’t help remind, that 100% of these problems with Florida and Michigan were self-inflected.

My other thought, the few minutes I watched the spectacle that took place today. Was, if there is enough time and money to put this event on, why exactly with 4 or so months to plan, wouldn’t a re-vote be an option? A fair primary, that would end all of this rhetoric, and actually be democratic and pick a nominee. Most census analysis and polling data show Obama would win Michigan, and be much closer in Florida then the results. So please, don’t anyone pretend this ruling did him some great favor. Aside from giving away delegates to his opponent, there is this shroud of illegitimacy, that Clinton will continue to hammer, and that will linger

As an Obama supporter, the goalposts got moved, my candidate caved into pure evil and cynicism from his opponent, but like has been the case this whole election he did so with strength, and he secured the nomination with a compromise. He now need 20 or so supers out of over 200 undecided to clinch… So it’s a win, but under the worst possible circumstances, which were brought on by a completely incompetent DNC.

    Thank you, JanS.

You never know, I may start feeling too much heat and bail out again.

It’s hard to defend one side all by yourself!

You should all take that as a compliment because I actual know that you are all more educated on this whole political thing than I am. I’m doing my best and will try to stay above water.

I’m not really trying to imply anything, JanS. I’m just stating a fact.

Do you have any thoughts on WHY they might want him to win this election? I know that you said they are making some kind of point, but I can’t see what point that would be.

I can’t understand why it is “sad” that Obama has resigned from an extremely racist church. Had he been a little more clever, he never would have been there and forged such close relationships in the first place.

Just my $0.02 on the whole “church” issue.

Beet salad (like candy), butter lettuce salad, cioppino (different than what you might expect), shrimp w/grits, duck, and French press with the chocolate “cake” and salted peanut ice cream…all very tasty. I thought the bread/rolls were okay, but not to the level of the other items. We wanted to try as much as possible though so gave them a shot. I agree with the slight wine pour, but mixed drink was healthy. There are a lot of things we’re looking forward to sampling next! Note that the menu does ask that no substitutions be made (don’t know if that is while they’re in test mode or if it will stick), but they did accommodate my request to leave the poached egg off of the shrimp & grits. I don’t do well with soft-cooked eggs and was appreciative since I did love what came out.

Wow! What a day! Obama now only needs 68 more delegates to clinch the nomination. Considering, he is projected to receive about 46 through the last comments that means he needs roughly 22 super delegates to end this race.

It is very sad that obama felt he had to leave his church like that.
