I adored Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill (I live with a similar parrot, the cutest bird in the world). And I’ve seen the “celebrity parrots” when I visited San Francisco. For kids, a very cute movie about parrots is “Paulie.” I admit I loved it, too. It came out several years ago.

Finally, a wonderful movie to watch at home over several nights: The Best of Youth. It’s an Italian movie about two brothers over the course of several decades. Love affairs, politics, family … it covers everything. Excellent acting, gorgeous Italian locations, etc.

    ellenater,

Looks like you have plenty of leads but I figured I would throw in the vacancy in North Admiral Court. We live there and are very happy. You can get more info at:

Hey Dubby, thanks for the plug. (I swear I did NOT ask her to do that, lol). I do plan to get her up here someday, though. She’s actually the one who told me about West Seattle, before we moved. Sadly, I did not listen to her!

JT, that’s actually a really good idea. I’ll post on here once we get settled.

JenV, I am not really a Ducks fan. I guess I’m more of a Ducks fan than a Huskies fan, though. We are more baseball fans and used to go see the Ems. play a lot. That was really fun and less of a production than the Mariners. I’d say the husband is probably a Ducks fan, though since he actually went to UO.

Wild Parrots was *wonderful*. Bought the book too and loved it. I actually saw the parrots a lot when we lived in the bay area — one of the “not you eithers” lived in their neighborhood.

A friend recommended Lars Friday and when I saw United States of Leland *and* that the same actor was in it and Lars, I moved it to the head of the list.

NR, I suspect you either love or hate Juno — I liked the actress, the character, and the writer (Cheyenne somebody or other, who won an academy award.) They’re all pretty strange. I saw the actor interviewed *a lot* when the movie first came out and she seemed so, um, normal — unlike US kid actors, she was amazingly unpretentious.

Can’t wait to hear what you think of Leland – I suspect it, too, is a love or hate deal. Some IMDB reviewers complained that it was not very realistic (duh). Others raved.

Devil was on my friend’s list too — I’m a sucker for Philip Seymour Hoffman, though I never thought of him without clothes. Saw him in Charlie Wilson’s War a couple of weeks ago and loved him and the movie — though I didn’t recognize him at all at first. Will I recognize him naked?

FINALLY, we both loved Into the Wild….I can’t quite understand why.

This weekend, for sure, Sex and the City!!!! On the big screen! (We were atypical addicts of the TV series.) Seattle Film Festival in town and we go to Mass Marketed Movies. Go figure.

Does no one else find it hilarious that the independent/conservative house wants to use the powers of the state to infringe on a private individuals right to use a public resource? ( parking )

I smell a bit of hypocrisy!!

to answer the question, I am pretty sure the ticket comes after the orange sticker is applied.

I love Taco Trucks! I usually go to the ones in White center.

Just today, P-I food writer Rebekah Denn wrote “Fabulous Mexican food is not one of Seattle’s strong points”. How can that be possible with all the people of Mexcican descent who live and work here?

What do y’all think? Was she off writing that?

Wild parrots was fascinating wasn’t it. Charla, I liked Lars too. If you’re a fan of odd, it does it well.

Just stopped by this taco truck parked across from Home Depot. Having been sick for four days and all stuffed-up and coughing, I thought some good, spicy food might be the answer. I got the Quesadilla, and when I asked for no meat, the cook dropped the price. The food was really tasty and the two sauces provided added just the right amount of flavor and heat! I recommend you stop by and check it out.

I’m comparing how strangers behavior can be unpredictable and most women don’t want to put themselves in a vulnerable position. Is that a foreign concept for you? Why aren’t you over on the abandoned vehicle thread yelling at house to man up for daring to rant in a rant forum. You are not a nice person.

Over the weekend I watched both “Into the Wild” and “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead.” ITW was great, but I couldn’t stand “Devil.” I fast-forwarded through most of it. An opening shot of naked Philip Seymour Hoffman and downhill from there. (And I’m a Hoffman fan!)

If you don’t mind subtitles I heartily recommend: The Chorus (French) Tsotsi (African) The Tiger and The Snow (Italian – Roberto Benigni) These are some of my favorites from the last year. And going back a little further: Motorcycle Diaries – an absolute must-see with an awesome soundtrack, and The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill – fantastic storytelling.

FYI, Zippy Burgers is closed on Sundays. I didn’t realize that and was in for a sad surprise when, dreaming of real onion rings and thick juicy burgers, we got there to find they weren’t open.

I look forward to eating there in the future!

Can’t forget about Ephesus near Rite Aid on California. It seems like Ephesus is West Seattle’s best kept secret for dinner!! :)

I get that McCain could no longer lay claim to the *I’m the only tough guy* title. But the rest of him kinda sounds like a jerk. It seems we’ve been there (Cheney) and it hasn’t done wonders for our foreign relations. I’m also not comfortable with a one issue candidate. He has to be able to run the country if necessary. I can’t see him as being prez.

All hypothetical, of course, until Obama picks someone. Just curious of views.

I’m having a BIG party for my husband for his 40th birthday in our backyard early in July. I’d like to have a band play (acoustic) for a couple hours mid-afternoon – classic rock stuff. Not sure where to start to look. Any suggestions ?? Thanks !

“Get Jesse” is a fairly recently implemented Consumer Advocacy Feature on KING 5 TV, with Jesse Jones chasing down the bad guys.

JT- I’m sorry I hadn’t seen the question.

I think a central question needs to be asked by the Obama campaign about how fractured the party is.

Is it more important to stick to his core messages that got him to this point, or to pivot a bit and try to reach out to the constituencies that are currently angry either with HRC herself or a close surrogate of hers, or maybe a woman like Sebalius.

I personally believe, that weakening even slightly the core purpose of his campaign, would show compromise no doubt, but a weakness that would be difficult to overcome. So on a deep, fundamental level I think he perfectly matches everything Obama represents, and is a perfect choice. But lets not kid ouselves, I’m voting for Obama anyway, so the question is more on the lines of if its an effective pick.

I believe, Jim Webb puts McCain severely on the defensive at what is supposed to be his issue and will help largely in overall voting. But more importantly I think he carries Virginia. If Obama wins Virginia he is the president, he can lose Ohio, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, Iowa all the other swing states in play. Carry what Kerry won, and take Virginia and your the president. I think this ticket will win..

Recently I read “Into the Wild” then watched the movie. I found the book compelling. I like Jon Krakaur’s writing style, very personal and conversational. I thought the movie was well done. The anguish his parents and sister went through was profoundly portrayed in the movie. The book focuses on examining the inner workings of Chris McCandless’s mind and having that information made the movie more interesting for me.

    Yes Jan, you’re correct.

    .

And TR, is correct too. A buddy of mine was born at WSH, in that location, in 1957.

    .

What’s funny for me, is I don’t remember that 2nd story being there, and thus not the hospital. Yet, I can remember A-Advanced TV being in the Sup Sup spotat what should have been around the same time.

    .

If you go into the alley, and look at the back of the building, right there at the bend of the “L”, apparently was the emergency entrance. I’ve actually been in the basement of the building, and that’s where the morgue was. :o So, watch out future residents of future condos! :P

Flowerpetal, Happy Belated big 5-0 to your friend. I’ll be hitting that mark in late September, but I was born at Seattle General in Downtown Seattle. :)

That Lars movie was one I didn’t expect to like. I thought it was interesting. I would recommend seeing it.

I did not like Juno. I thought the girl (or the girl the actress was playing) was annoying. I hated her attitude for some reason. I thought the concept of the movie was great, but, again, didn’t care for the girl (actress or character – not sure which).

Glad you likes Gone Baby Gone. Still one of my favorites this year.

I will look forward to checking out the United States of Leland. Thanks for the recommendation!

I am definitely t.v. impaired. I assume “Get Jesse” is something that t.v. viewers understand. I need the translation book!

I believe that the orange stickers are warnings; not tickets. If the vehicle is not moved and is towed, then the car is ticketed in addition to the towing.
