Once a dog bites someone and causes injury, they should go to a farm upstate IMO; regardless of how nice their owner insists they are.

The world, and Seattle in particular, has become far too passive when it comes to pushing back on dog owners for breaking the laws. Every day I see dogs on a beach, in a park that explicitly says ‘no dogs’, or on a seat in a bus.

Unpopular or not, please remember that dogs are, in fact, NOT PEOPLE.

    Hello Neighbors and Friends!
I am a new business owner and am looking to grow my team. I am the owner of Eaglen Design-Build (www.eaglendesignbuild.com) and I’m looking for a talented and reliable carpenter to join me on my upcoming projects!

Location: Seattle-area (next project is in Covington so you must have reliable transportation)
Schedule: Project‑based (hours vary by project)
Compensation: Expect $30 – $45 an hour. To be discussed based on experience and contracting type (1099 independent contractor vs W2 part-time employee)

    About the Role:
We’re looking for a skilled carpenter to support a mix of rough and finish scopes on residential and/or light commercial projects. This is a hands-on, field role with flexible, project‑dependent hours, ideal for an experienced craftsperson who wants steady part‑time work without full‑time commitment.

    Perform demolition and general clean-up
Execute rough carpentry: layout, framing, backing, blocking, sheathing, exterior trim.
    Install and finish drywall
Perform finish carpentry: doors, windows, casework, base/trim, crown, wainscot, specialty details.
Read/interpret plans and details; verify layout, plumb/level/square; complete punch lists.
Protect finished surfaces; maintain a clean, safe, OSHA‑compliant jobsite.
Coordinate with the PM/Site Lead on sequencing, inspections, and material needs.
Track your time and basic material usage; flag conflicts, field conditions, and changes early.
Load/unload; stage materials; operate common jobsite tools and equipment safely.

    What you Bring:
3+ years professional carpentry experience (rough and/or finish); high‑quality workmanship.
Proficient with tape/layout, saws, routers, nailers, planers, and fastener systems.
Ability to read drawings and take direction on specs while working independently on tasks.
Reliable transportation to multiple jobsites in and around Seattle; current driver’s license.
Smartphone literacy for time tracking, photos, and basic app-based communication.
Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolds, and work on your feet throughout the project.
If joining as 1099 independent contractor:
You bring your own business license, general liability insurance, and bond.
    You bring your own tools

    Nice to Have:
OSHA‑10/30, First Aid/CPR; experience with residential remodels/occupied spaces.
Specialty skills (stair work, custom millwork installs, cabinet installs, exterior trim).
    Electrical card/license.

    Tools, Safety & Support:
We provide major tools/equipment, ladders/scaffolds, and required PPE.
You provide a standard personal hand‑tool kit suitable for rough/finish tasks.

    Work Conditions:
Field-based with travel between jobsites; indoor/outdoor conditions; typical construction noise/dust.
Occasional evenings/weekends may be requested based on project milestones.

I am a West Seattle homeowner looking for a sublet/house sit/rental situation April/May/June 2026, walking distance to the water.

I would consider a private suite in a house or a petsitting situation if there was some flexibility/backup as I will be traveling some weekends.

I also have a home in rural Northern Wisconsin which could be offered as an partial exchange.

We’re a family of four looking for a part-time housekeeper in Highland Park. For the past few years we’ve been lucky to have the services of an awesome neighbor who we met through WSB, and we’re hoping lightning can strike twice! We prefer another awesome individual versus a cleaning service.

    Duties:
    – General light housekeeping like washing dishes, tidying, folding laundry, taking out trash/compost/recycling, etc
    – Regular cleaning tasks like bathrooms, floors, and mirrors, etc
    – Occasional deeper cleaning tasks like wiping cabinets and baseboards, cleaning appliances, bathrooms and the kitchen deeper cleans, etc
    – Other tasks as mutually agreed upon

    Details:
    – Four people (one adult man, one adult woman, two teen boys) and a small/medium sized, very gentle, non-shedding dog
    – 1700 square feet divided between a main house and a DADU
    – 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 kitchen, 1 kitchenette

    Pay: $25/hour, paid weekly

Hours: Likely at least 6-10 per week to get the job done well, but flexible if you have a different number of hours in mind

Schedule: At least 2 days per week, Mon/Thu preferred, but flexible on both days and times of day as your schedule permits.

Contact hphousekeeper@icloud.com and let us know:
    – Your name
    – Your phone number and email
    – Your experience with housekeeping (even if just in your own home)
    – What appeals to you about the job, what caught your eye
    – Your favorite lunch spot in/near West Seattle

    Hi all,

My lease is up and I’ll be moving at the end of October. Combing through and refreshing 10 websites per day is as demoralizing and exhausting as it sounds, so I’m trying my luck here.

I’m in my mid 30s, work in education, and have good credit and references. My needs are basically quiet, LGBTQ friendly, non-smokers, and everyone pays the rent on time. Hoping for the Delridge/Riverview area, but anything close to the 128 line will work.

I’d love to connect with anyone who is seeking a house share. Are you looking for a punctual, responsible roommate? Know someone who is? Let’s talk!

Control your dogs! I was attacked by a “nice dog” yesterday. The nice dog bit through my pants and a knee brace leaving me with deep puncture wounds and a huge bruise. There was no warning that this nice dog was going to bite despite the owner telling me (afterwards) that the nice dog has a history of bitting people near doorways. I was leaving my building and moved aside to let the owner and the dog in. That’s when I got bit. Holding the door to let this neighbor and his dogs in. Again, no warning that this dog is scared of doorways and will bite people in doorways. I would have happily backed away had I known.

Are you available Monday through Friday, 9am-2pm, and looking for a part-time job that you love? Do you stop people walking by to ask to pet their dog? Do you have previous dog-walking experience? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, come work with us as a professional dog walker!

TO APPLY: Complete an application at https://closetohomeseattle.com/careers/application-form/

    Overview:

Close to Home Pet Services is an LGBTQAI-owned and operated company. We connect customers with our animal-obsessed team to provide their pets with unique, individual care. We have been providing individual dog walks and cat visits in Seattle since 2008. We’re currently looking to hire a responsible animal lover to join our professional team!

Together we create a safe, fun, healthy environment for our internal team, our animal/pet clients, our human clients, and our Community. We are making the difference together.

Dog Walking Route Details: We have immediate openings for WEST SEATTLE Weekday dog walkers. These positions work well for someone looking for part-time work, 2-5 hours a day. Candidates must be available Monday through Friday, from roughly 9am-2pm.

All Close to Home Dog clients are human-friendly and vetted for staff. All walks are private leashed walks in their neighborhood. Some dog walks are more than one dog if they live together.

***We are hiring hourly from $21/hr.***

    Job Summary:

This is a physical job designed for true dog lovers. You will be walking independently and tasked with keeping clients’ pets safe and following any instructions provided by the client. Ideal routes are normally within one neighborhood, but you will need to travel to multiple households during the day and provide your own transportation.

We place great emphasis on safety, customer service, and self-reliance. Most walkers work an equivalent of 10-30 hours a week and find the flexibility that our company provides to be an ideal way to stay independent and balance other jobs, clients, or school with the freedom of self-employment.

    Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Perform safe neighborhood walks on leash as directed by the client
    • Time management and communication to accept/deny service requests
    • Communicate with the office and clients within our select software platforms (we will train you on this!)
    • Provide excellent customer service
    • Give all dogs attention, exercise, and care

    Who You Are:

    • You are physically able to walk miles at a time, many times briskly
    • You are honest, driven, self-motivated, and independent
    • You have a smartphone with a data plan
    • You are at least 21 years old
    • You own a reliable source of transportation
    • You enjoy spending the day outdoors in all types of weather
    • You are legally authorized to work in the United States
    • You are willing to submit to a background check
    • You have another form of income to help supplement this position

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of dog breeds and behavior can be helpful but not required
    • The ability to make quick decisions to keep dogs and yourself safe
    • Capable of walking more than one dog at a time
    • Comfortable walking dogs with special medical or behavior concerns
    • Time management skills to ensure on-time arrivals for all dog walks
    • Experience communicating with others via Slack

    Benefits and Perks:

    • Highly competitive industry pay
    • Paid Onboarding and Comprehensive Training
    • Casual dress code (dress for the weather instead of wearing a uniform)
    • Work within a fun environment that encourages learning with positive/animal-loving co-workers
    • Work at a company that respects you as an individual and creates healthy boundaries

What our team says about the company:

‘Close To Home has been an amazing place for me after leaving a high-stress job. Being outside, exercising, and connecting with animals is the perfect antidote for career burnout and has helped tremendously with my depression and anxiety. Plus, the miles I’m walking have conditioned me enough so I can do all the hikes that seemed out of reach previously.’

Over the past few years, I often see people park in the middle of the alley or not far enough over to allow through traffic. In case you didn’t know, this is illegal. It’s also not very neighborly. Please don’t do this. It’s inconvenient for the driver and there can be violations/dangers in backing up. There also isn’t always a way to turn around in the alley so you can leave “nose” out.

For those who think I should call parking enforcement, that’s not really an option due to hold times and the parking enforcement being perpetually understaffed.

Rather than trying to get people a ticket and a tow, I thought I could reach more people proactively through WSB.

The Seattle Municipal Code is below. Thank you.

    11.72.020 – Alley.
No person shall stand or park a vehicle except a commercial vehicle, a vehicle displaying a valid commercial loading permit, or authorized emergency vehicle in an alley.

    (Ord. 114518 § 5, 1989: Ord. 114251 § 5, 1988: Ord. 108200, § 2(11.72.020), 1979.)

    11.72.025 – Alley—Driveway.
No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle within an alley in such a position as to block the driveway entrance to any abutting property. (RCW 46.90.433(2))
