Caduceus, are you for real or are you a troll?

I’m laughing a little because I remember thinking I knew everything when I was 17, and then around the time I hit my mid-20s, I realized how very little I knew back then. It’s not a slam or a personal failing to be 17…it’s just that a sneaky thing called maturity changes you a lot in your early 20s.

You will get there, too. That is, presuming you are for real.

    Yikes…

Your future goals are admirable, but your 17 year-old God complex is astounding.

Your complete lack of respect for those who are working in the field of education and mental health is also troubling. Teachers are working with the same populations you are and for you to say that this is not necessarily an achievement is insulting. Educating children in a thankless and often volatile environment is not an achievement???

These people you deal with in your “counseling” were once children too, or are the children of the people you counsel. Again, please just step back see that perspective as well.

And NewResident, no one said this person was not intelligent. Yes this person deals with these “people” everyday, do you not think teachers do as well? Hmmm…who works with students and their parents day in and day out? We are merely encouraging this person to gain a little persepctive and maturity. Time and experience teaches one to be humble and less judgemental…or one hopes it does.

BDG, apparently whatever redemption or vindication Hillary’s supporters think they will get if Hillary wins the nomination is more important than the Democratic party.

In fact, it’s apparently more important than a Democrat winning the White House. It’s more important than stopping global warming, getting a national health care plan, restoring the constitution, getting out of Iraq, saving the American dollar, restoring the damage done to education, protecting women’s reproductive rights….

But hey…I’m just an Obama supporter. What do I know?

Jerald, is that Unique Stitch fabric glue something that will allow you to remove the item, or is it permanent? My husband needs annual patches on his hockey referee jersey and I’m kinda sick of sewing them on for him (or watching him take 5x as long to do it :) – it would be easier to glue them on, but they do need to come off each year and replaced.

I’ve never had a problem with the Jefferson Sq. Safeway staff. If anything, they’re too helpful, always asking if I need assistance. I think that’s a company policy.

Those workers are part of our West Seattle community too and I feel bad when I hear them insulted.

The rainbow man story is driving me nuts!! LOL I’ve been searching the internet and a couple of books we have here at home on haunted Seattle and I’m not finding anything. LOVE that kind of stuff though!

The strangest thing we’ve seen is the BIG coyote out back here. Not even sure if it is full coyote because he has a pretty black coat. Our neighbors have caught glimpses of him as well but nobody has seen him full on. I believe there must be a den down behind the business that is over the hill from us. It is all grown over and it is a fairly deep area along a steep bank. Prime spot for a den.

I’ll ask the other Shibaguy tomorrow morning if there is anything he can think of that we’ve seen that is odd…

NewResident thank you for your kind words! I truly appreciate people who take the time to understand what I’m saying and don’t nit pick at things that should be common sense! You are truly appreciated!

The numerous teaching professionals are just that, teaching professionals. You see the people inside the classrooms, and that’s it.

I see these people everywhere I go, we do the relatively same things, go to the same movies recreate in the same general areas etc.

Your lack of common sense as a “Teaching Professional” astounds me, and how you aren’t comprehending any of the points I’m making is rather disheartening. I mean if I need to behave like a true elitist and just go ahead and assume everyone lacks common sense and the ability of comprehension I could just go and spell out every little thing for you all. But I have faith from having browsed these forums that we have a forum full of intellectuals and people who behave like adults.

My lack of compassion for stupid people, who enjoy being stupid does not make me a bad person, the same way having a lack of compassion for a rapist who enjoys rape does not make me a bad person.

Granted the extremes are different but the concept is the same. Which I again should not have to point out but hey, you guys have said some silly things already.

And my exact quote is “Oh and yes, as a 6 year gymnast who doesn’t sit in front of the television 4 hours a day eating pizza and mcdonalds, I look down on overweight people who eat doritos and ho-ho’s in class while sucking down a mountain dew. But at the same time I know people who have diabetes and from a number of causes are slightly over weight and recognize that their weight is as much under control as it will get.”

If someone makes no effort to be HEALTHY and in-shape, let alone attractive and socially presentable then I am not required to have compassion for them. And I’m certainly not going to stoop so low as to have pity on anyone. Especially since it’s again, common sense that if they wanted to do something about their weight and physical health they would eat better and exercise. And I could try and help them, but again here’s some common sense. You can’t help people who don’t want to be helped, and have no will to help themselves.

There is nothing good about being overweight when you have no medical problems making it so. Therefore I have every right to criticize those people, as a young man who goes out of his way to be in the best physical shape I can with the time I have to do it.

And please, do not generalize my opinions on stupid people, and stretch them as if they are my opinions on every individual thing in the world. Don’t be so childish, this is not your petty argument, this whole thread is simply me correcting your continuous mistakes.

Being a “teaching professional” for however amount of years is not necessarily an achievement because you have not necessarily achieved anything. You can continue to attempt to be condescending but I have surely changed more lives then you. I forgive your silliness simply because I understand you know nothing about me, and how I use my free time. But as an adult and a teaching professional you should surely know better then to behave as you have.

But for some insight, I know a lot of professionals, which allows me to help people with severe problems via re-direction to said people when I am out of my league.

Like drug issues, severe emotional/physical/sexual abuse, general depression, basic guidance and problem solving.

Which I am criticized frequently for being involved in, because I may not know what chemicals encompass depression. But the fact I am capable of recognizing a person’s problems and helping them find ways to solve said problems doesn’t seem to count.

Not counting people I’ve re-directed to seasoned professionals I’ve helped people cold turkey a hand full of drugs from oxy to blow to cigarettes. I’ve kept people from killing themselves I’ve on two occasions been the person someone called when they attempted suicide, rather then 911. I’ve helped people from cutting, helped them direct their general outlook on life to a more positive one, persuaded a few people to call CPS and live with the grandparents/auntsuncles, to excel better in school, to learn to quell their anger etc.

I see people overcome things FAR greater then just a “I could care less” attitude on school every day, therefore I have NO sympathy for people who are in school, but could care less whether or not they graduate with a diploma.

So I do not believe my standards should be lowered for those people.

Again I should not have to point all of this out, because it is fact and common sense. My backround and what I do with my time should not be the deciding point as to who agrees with me or who disagrees.

Again NewResident thank you for being you!

i must have my say here about the homeless guy in front of safeway, are you talking about the guy who sells the real change magazine? because those are the people who i really support. i think that they are really trying to do something with there lives not just bootlegging for beer and drugs, i make a real effort to give money to the real change folks. but anyways about the rainbow man.. im not sure im going to have to ask my husband for more details, rainbowman is supposed to be an old west seattle haunt, something that grandmas warned there kids about, the guy comes out and takes children who are found wandering around..i know, i know sounds funny, but i guess on some days of the year you can see little colored footprints all around the drainpipes in shmitz park. Ive heard about this myth from a few oldtime westseattlelites…and its fun to tell around a campfire this time of year…but just seeing if anyone had a better version of the story….

Concentrating on the issues and McCains stance on the issues is important and I have looked @ them. For instance I think his position on education stinks. He believes that No Child Left Behind is a good idea. He obviously does not know anyone that is actually involved in educating the next generation of children or care about our countries well being in 20,30, 40 years out. He also is in support of NAFTA and thinks it is vital to our countries success. HA what a joke. Just another example of how distant he is from our citizens and voters. And again as I stated before about him being wishy washy on global warming he has been to wishy washy on his opinion in regards to taxes he opposes tax cut then supports them then opposes them. Choose a position and stand by it. Because when you change your position that much that means you are only doing what you want people to see you do not doing what you want and what is know is right.

You are jumping to conclusions, hopey, in assuming this person has no empathy.

I do not think you should judge this person and criticize their future goals based on a couple postings on a blog.

It is extremely evident that this person is well educated and actually wants that education (which is more than I can say for a lot of other young people).

I just cannot believe that this young person is jumped on, assigned a lack of empathy, and talked down to when we should be praising this person for speaking their mind. Speaking it very eloquently, at that.

This person should speak their mind. They are obviously very intelligent. This person should see the world around them and come to their own conclusions.

For you to *assume* that this person has no empathy or, furthermore, and even more disturbing, challenge their chosen professional goal, is showing a lack of empathy.

NR..I realize that this is probably the wrong thread for this discussion…I just want you to know I didn’t ask those things for a debate. we can do that in the McCain thread, I suppose. I didn’t want to know about McCain’s plan. I want to know what my peers think when they say less taxes, no more taxes, etc, etc…

You’re right…McCain didn’t specifically say that military service should be a requirement…but he did bring up the subject, and alluded to things. And you’re correct in telling me that he didn’t say that. Just as…it’s correct that Hillary Clinton never said that she wanted to stay in the race because something may happen in June, remember RFK. See how that works? Everyone is so happy to jump (not you, NR…I’m using the universal everyone)onto an allusion as a fact…yes, defending Hillary here. And the same happens with Barack Obama…an illegal Real estate deal? did he get in trouble? was he arrested? punished for it? who said it was “illegal”..? Is there proof that it was illegal? (maybe simply it wasn’t prudent?)

as JoB has said many times…it politics…it’s dirty…it’s the way it is. I don’t like it…but I’m told I have to accept it …stinks, doesn’t it?

JanS – It is entirely possible that I missed something, but when did McCain *decide* that military service was a requirement for running for President?

Sure, he will use the fact that Obama never served, of course he will, but I don’t think he ever stated that it was a requirement.

I will answer your questions, JanS, but not to argue.

You do not agree with me and I already know that. I have pointed out that I do not trust Obama and absolutely nothing anyone says on here will change that opinion.

I am not answering your questions to start a debate. We will see if I can answer your question without being attacked.

I do not trust Obama because he has too many suspicious associations. These are associations I am extremely uncomfortable with in todays day and age.

He has been involved in illegal real estate transactions.

He not only attended, but had a close personal relationship for over 20 years, with an extremely racist Reverend.

His wife has stated publicly that she does not like this country (or, I guess never has until her husband was running for President)

He is a hypocrite. He preaches one thing and practices another.

He does not want to fund the military for or attain advanced weaponry. He would rather the troops learn languages.

He does not have enough experience to deserve the trust of the American people. If he were white, he would not be in this position (that is racism in itself, and only hurting the minority) Do you realize how many white Senator’s are just as or even MORE qualified than Obama?

And, lastly, he is a Democrat.

As far as how the debt we are in will get paid, more specifically I think what you are asking is, how will McCain handle that.

It’s real simple. You can go to his website and read where he stands on every issue. You can read about his plans. That is what I did with Obama. But, I think it’s safe to say that not even half of you have ever looked at McCain’s site or his plans.

and I want to throw this in here…as a veteran…yes, I’m a veteran…Vietnam era…I don’t want to hear about Mr. Obama’s lack of military service. Mrs. Clinton didn’t choose it either, not did Bill, nor did Dick Cheney, nor did Geo. Bush…and it goes on ad nauseum….it’s a moot point, and John McCain can’t decide that it’s a ualification to be president…it isn’t.

Also…specifically, NR…curiosity here…how will Barack Obama weaken the military?

and..one last question…to anyone. Repubs are bound and determined to have less and less taxes. Our infrastructure in this country is crumbling. Our public school system is not funded correctly (there’s that education thing again)…this country has an astronomical debt after the Bush years as president….so…if more taxes are done away with…how will any of this get paid? I’m just throwing this out there…and I’m not asking for generalizations…I’d be interested in real, concrete answers…:)

I want to add, BDG, I mean absolutely no disrespect by my above comment.

I don’t know much about Obama. I learn more and more everyday.

It’s just that everything I do learn about him (and the party he stands for, obviously), makes me not like him and not trust him more and more.

JT – You are the exception. I apologize that I didn’t clarify that in my original post.

You constantly research and challenge anything I say. Because you are so respectful about it, I truly respect everything you have to say.

Bdg – I’m sad to hear that you honestly think the only thing that qualifies McCain for President is his military service. You make it obvious that you don’t know much about him.

I wholeheartedly agree that a lot of discussions on this forum revolve around what we have all *heard*, myself included. I know that I watch the news, read the newspaper, read news sites, etc., but that is always someone else’s point of view. Every news story, every article is biased to some degree.

I agree that Obama supporter’s are constantly defending themselves to their same side and maybe that is why nothing substantial is really discussed here.

Even though I do not have the passion for my candidate as some Obama supporter’s have, I will defend him. He does support women (because he didn’t pass a bill that wasn’t even about women, that’s a huge leap and assumption to make), he does plan on fixing current problems within the Administration, and he has renounced any association with Hagee (weren’t we pretty quick to forgive Obama of his Reverend?).

I know that for you, BDG, the aides being interviewed by the Fed’s is a big deal (not sure why) and I realize that you are becoming frustrated that no one has remarked regarding that topic, but please remember that I am pretty much the sole Republican on this forum and, quite honestly, I don’t think it’s a very big deal.

Do you think that it’s a big deal that Obama was involved in an illegal real estate deal? And that’s not even his aides, that’s your possible future President.

The West Seattle Safeways are shadows of their former selves when it comes to the employees. The Jefferson one was the first to go bad, and now I’m seeing the same thing happen at the Admiral one. They treat the customers like cattle — indifference, suspicion and contempt seem to be part of their training now. It got so bad that I always go to Thriftway now. The prices aren’t higher unless you’ve fallen for the “Safeway Club Card” scam, but I’d pay more anyway just to avoid the gauntlet of Safeway trolls. It will be a happy day indeed when we get more grocery alternatives in West Seattle, like a Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods.

I have questioned McCain as well JT. That is the reason why I have bumped the McCain? thread back to the top. He does not support womens rights, his staffers are being questioned by the Feds now, he actively recruited Hagee as a supporter, he has no plans for fixing the problems the Bush Administration has created, he consistently forgets were his stance is on the issue (i.e. global warming), and his only qualification is that he served in the war. I also would not bring up financials in regards to the Presidential race considering Obama is the closest relation to all American’s financial situation. So he would be the one who has used the programs the most and has had to work his a** off to get where he is.

Boy I missed a lot, but to respond I never handily dismissed hillary not getting SS protection…she had it before anyone. I cant dismiss something she had. Just that Obama got it before anyone else due to threats etc.

This may have been covered in the posts I havent read yet…

All pro choice democrats fall into the abortion clinic bombings for protection, not just women. Male or female, there is no distinction. Black or white. There are hate groups that will specifically target blacks, jews, homosexuals though, just like ones that will target pro choice. I’m assuming Republicans and democrats generally get SS protection the same time, and its just Obama’s race that was the key factor there. (just like Hillary’s former first lady status gave her the protection before all others)

I’ll have to read up on the other posts later.

NR, I take exception. I have brought up several different themes and questions on the McCain/and or Obama thread including how McCain’s published tax plan is going to put us way more in debt by a large margin, than either Obama or Clinton. WSmom and I have discussed a few different things, but no one on the right will ever jump in. You will on occasion, but then it’s something you *heard*. Like *what about Obama’s uncle? Not an issue but I waste an hour researching it’s silliness. Who would you like us to discuss issues with? Ourselves?
