    Hiya and good morning!

So here is my ideal situation…Might as well ask!

~You are a person that LOVES dogs, but currently does not have one.
~You work from home M-F and are an early riser.
~You are flexible in that this wouldn’t be a weekly ask, just when traveling opportunities take dog’s mum away from her.
~You have knowledge and experience in caring for animals.
~You want to make some extra $$.
~You are a good communicator and reliable.

I am looking for a person that my dog can stay with during the day for various length’s of time (days in the week). Meaning…when I am traveling, my partner would bring our dog to you on his way to work (early) and then pick her back up around 4:00 on the days he goes to work M-F.

If you are interested in talking more about what this could look like…Please write back!

    Thanks so much!!!

    Hi WS neighbors,
Ive lived in West Seattle the past five years and I’m working on a side project focused on helping small local businesses understand where their money is really going with suppliers (coffee, food, delivery apps, utilities, packaging, POS systems, etc.).

I’m looking for 2–3 local business owners (coffee shops, childcare, gyms, restaurants, retail, etc.) who would be open to letting me do a free “supplier checkup” for them.

It’s not salesy and there’s no obligation, I just analyze where costs, risks, or missed opportunities might exist with vendors and share a simple report with what I find.

I’m doing the first few for free so I can learn, refine the model, and (if it’s useful) get feedback.

If you own a small business here in West Seattle and are curious, feel free to comment or DM me at lemkeaustin@gmail.com— Happy to explain more. Thanks!

In reply to: West Seattle Hum

    WSB
    Keymaster

Hi! Thanks for asking. Years ago, we covered a neighborhood group solving the mystery of what at least at the time was the source of a hum – you should be able to find many stories searching our archives (or search Google on the term “west seattle hum” and “westseattleblog.com”). At the time, it was traced to the vacuum systems used to unload dry-cargo ships on the Duwamish. In the years since, every time we got a note asking about a “hum,” I would check a ship tracker and sure enough, there’d be a dry-cargo ship in on the Duwamish. When I first read your note earlier today, I looked at vesselfinder.com and noted two dry-cargo ships on the river. Without further investigation, of course, we can’t say for sure that’s what you’re hearing, but it’s certainly been a past culprit. Hard to do with a baby, I’d imagine, but next time you feel it’s really loud, you might even consider driving down to West Marginal and seeing if you hear it from a particular plant – TR

I’ve seen these posts and comments for about 20 years. I wonder what the disconnect is? Maybe it is the phone/being inattentive. Owners are required to be in control of their dog but dogs bark like crazy in yards all around me. There is a law against it, same with scoop violations, and leash laws. Please train your dog or go to obedience school to curb the barking. Dogs aren’t plug and play or buy it then that’s it. There’s more to pet ownership and the shelter or kennel or pet store isn’t explaining it to new owners. The lack of city enforcement sends the wrong message.

He sounds like one of the nice folks people are always saying that live here. Thank you for calling out the health code violation. It’s basically up to us. I have tried to work with various PCC managers and the Health Department. No one who works there (or any other grocery store or restaurant) wants to deal with it. It’s a violation if a health inspector sees it but not serious enough to affect operations. I’m sick of entitled pet owners and weak to no enforcement. Dogs are just one example. I’ve been rallying against it and scoop violations since 2010 when I was bit by an off leash (illegal) dog at a play structure (also illegal). The problem just got worse during the pandemic with more pet ownership and zero enforcement because Animal Control officers were only focusing on neglect/abuse.

I used David over at Seattle Chimney Service, he came out to do the initial inspection and chimney sweep than gave me the report on the work needed to be done for the repairs and masonry, he cleaned up after and was very quick turn around time I think it was finished within that week. I paid around $7,000 for all the work needed to be done but with the researched it seemed like it was in the correct ballpark. He’s a good professonal guy.

This is a SEATTLE-wide problem. Not sure why dog owners think the entire outdoors is their own personal toilet bowl, but hopefully they’ll get what’s coming to them. I woke up this morning to someone who had let their “precious fur baby” drop a load right in front of the sign outside my house that says “please pick up after your dog.” Nine times out of ten, it’s because they’re not paying attention to the dog, because their head is buried in their cell phone.

To the man who verbally attacked me when I pointed out the NO PETS ALLOWED sign at PCC this morning, as he was exiting the building with his non-service dog, I really hope you don’t have a female partner at home. And I hope you don’t kiss your mother with that mouth. Calling me an “old b-word,” that’s classic :-) You were clearly in the wrong; that’s why you acted as defensive as you did. I enjoyed being yelled at for an entire block down the street.

I used to work at Mr. Eds back in 1984. I forget the owners name but he also owned the IHOP up on Madison back then and would send me there sometimes for extra hours.I really liked Mr Eds a lot, the cooks name then was Rob same as me,two sisters that were beautiful and fun to be around. there was another Waitress named Bunny (Bernadette) who was just an amazing person. I was lucky enough to date Bunny for a few months, I still have a photo of her as a Hi Yu Princess on the float, what great memories of a wonderful place that I should have never left. Worked at the Elephant Carwash in 1979 om denny and worked at the Fishermans restaurant and lounge on pier 57 where the sweet smell of sourdough bread made you feel hungry. worked at the Edgewater for a while and last place of work was the Space Needle in 1984-1985. I hope all of the people mentioned have had amazing wonderful lives.

This is a mischaracterization of the capabilities of these systems. The devices themselves detect motion and activity like people and vehicles and send only those relevant clips for processing. When you view the clips in the app they are streaming from the cloud so clearly the bandwidth capabilities exist. The video is then further processed and indexed for things like face, gait, and vehicle identification. This is much smaller than the raw video which can be deleted after it is fingerprinted. Ring has already been in trouble for misusing the video footage they record from user devices. This is not new or mysterious capability. It’s pedestrian, literally.

Finding a good motorcycle gear store can be tricky, especially when you want something both protective and stylish. I’ve always been drawn to biker jackets because they perfectly mix function and fashion. Watching the movie Biker Boyz really made me fall in love with the look, especially the jackets Derek Luke wore they’re iconic! If you’re looking for something similar, I’d definitely recommend checking out a biker boyz jacket for that classic biker vibe.

For starters, ALL contributors to the publication, were street kids, and it operated as an anthology, rather than Corporate, Help Nobody “not for profits”, such as Compass Center, as merely an avenue to get hurt’n people to flog off their political agendas, on the off chance that they might get a kickdown from folks they are led to believe, that they have some sort of God-Given right to well, aggressively panhandle under the guise of “vending” papers
