We’ve been using Jason Durante here in west Seattle for years to do our taxes.

He’s a CPA and I know he has some experience with international customers as we’ve talked about it before.

He’s not cheap, it will probably cost a least a couple of hundred bucks.

I lost a phone yesterday, and the battery is dead. But it is an iPhone. It’s in a black rubber case with a square on the back. I don’t suppose this is it by any small chance?

Recently, while walking down the street in the Admiral District, I found a diamond ring and would love to give it back to whoever lost it. It is either silver or white gold (my jewelry knowledge is lacking).

There is something engraved on the inside of the ring so if you think this may be yours please let me know what the inscription is (and any other details you may have) and I’ll happily return your precious.

Hi, my car window was smashed in at the Met Market parking lot. On April 1st, 2017 around 4:15 p.m
It was a Grey 2010 Prius.
Canvas tote was stolen containg my dark brown leather day planner and headset and white mesh makeup bag among other miscellaneous items.
Would love to have it returned if found or any info regarding the break in.
Thank you, any help is appreciated.

Glad to hear you got at least your trailer back. We’ve had our wheels stolen twice on one of our cars in the past 2 years and it’s always a violation to look out at the driveway & process what you’re (not) seeing. A neighbor had his trailer stolen in broad daylight. Somebody got into my car last month without any damage which probably means they had an electronic key. I don’t leave anything to steal in it… Our “normal” is getting a bit alarming.

Why did you sign up for Medicare if you are still working and receiving health insurance from your employer? I hope it was because your employer required you do so or you expect to pay less with Medicare than your employer’s insurance. The Medicare contact should have worked with you to determine the best approach.

As to additional coverage to Part B, you need to determine what your likely medical expenses will be based on your health status and age. If it’s good and you expect little medical intervention, you can get a Medicare Advantage policy with no monthly fee but significant deductables and co-pays. One simple surgical procedure can cost you about the same as a complete Medicare Supplement policy that covers most everything Part B doesn’t.

When it comes to Medicare Supplement policies, the cost is more or less the same for the main insurance providers. What you need to do is select from a half dozen policies with differing costs and co-pays. The insurance companies lay it out clearly on their web sites. Medicare does as well and will indicate which companies have approved programs in your state.

WS79, if rainbow crosswalks are cited more often than other poor decisions made by this mayor (and I don’t know that they are) it’s probably because this particular waste of money was so extremely frivolous and therefore memorable. That doesn’t make it homophobic; things have changed since 1979, although I’m sure there are still some grumbling homophobes closeted around here.

BTW, Murray is not our first gay mayor.

Location: parking lot of California & Erskine 7-11
Time: just past 2 pm today
Car: gold with black trim Mini-Cooper, license beginning with 960?
Driver: female with shortish dark hair

While waiting for the bus, I heard someone cry out. Turned around just in time to see the vehicle back into an elderly woman with a cane who was crossing the parking lot. The impact caused her to stagger sideways and almost fall. She was shouting “stop, stop” the entire time. The driver just turned and headed out of the parking lot. I chased after the car as best I could (not young myself) yelling at them that they had hit someone. They slowly continued down the block as if they knew someone was shouting at them but oblivious as to the reason.

Here’s the thing. The elderly pedestrian was moving at a crawl. If the driver had looked behind them for even a second, she would have been clearly visible. Certainly she would have been visible as she clung screaming to the left rear side of the vehicle. This is not a case of someone running behind a backing vehicle while in their blind spot. This could only have happened if they did not look AT ALL before or during backing.

The woman was OK, glad that someone had stood up for her, but wanted to be on her way. Otherwise, I would have stayed and helped her file a police report. I got the impression that she had made eye contact with the driver at some point.

If anyone knows this mini-brained, mini-moraled Mini driver, please let them know they nearly killed someone today – if they care. I’ve never seen such horrible driving in my entire life as I’ve witnessed in West Seattle recently. This behavior is shameful and inexcusable.

As usual, the devil is in the details. The updated price came to $66k although the $100k had already been widely reported. It does not take into account the fact that the crosswalks were quite worn and were overdue for a re-painting. The cost was paid out of fees levied at developers for use of the right of way. Back in 1979 this very same city had two police officers putting an initiative before the voters to strike down anti-discrimination laws. It was left to the majority to decide how a minority was to be treated and the majority decided by a squeaker that it was wrong to discriminate. The Seattle Times protested, KIRO 7’s manager was practically foaming at the mouth. Police continued to raid gay bars hoping to find someone to cite for any infraction, minor or major. In light of the city’s history, I think OP raises a very good point.

A lot of us have a lot of complaints about Mayor Murray. However, people keep bringing up “rainbow crosswalks” when talking about him. It almost seems homophobic to me to keep bringing up something specific to LGBTQ+ pepole from at least two years ago, maybe more, when talking about Seattle’s first gay mayor.

It’s one thing to complain about specific things he’s done or hasn’t done recently. But to bring up the rainbow crosswalks when talking about something completely unrelated–why? Why that one thing, when there are probably several other things he’s done that could be complained about?

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, we have figured out over these 10 years how to get a reasonable amount of sleep (although what that means for me is probably not what it means for non-night owls). But that’s why we really appreciate tips – since we’re on call 24/7 – especially when that huge wave of sirens hits your neighborhood in the 3-6 am vicinity when we are less likely to have someone directly in front of a scanner … text or call 206-293-6302! – TR

shanua.. we couldn’t agree more.. we can’t go on like this. But the answer isn’t using such a large chunk of our homeless dollars in sweeps when sanitation services are so much cheaper.
as for consequences.. i would like you to pitch a tent in your back yard and then go spend the next rainstorm in it.. and tell me how long you last..
For the most part people are not living in tents by choice.. they would much prefer housing .. just like you and i would… with locks and indoor plumbing and cooking facilities.
The largest gift i give the guy who lives in a tent and comes to work in my yard isn’t the meal i always feed him but the use of my shower a couple of times a week and a share of the bounty the garden produces.

it’s too easy to forget that the homeless are people just like us.. with the same hopes and dreams for themselves and their loved ones that we have.

Thank you. I walked by as the sun was going down and picked up the two bags. I think that leaves 3 smaller pots with about 4 inch diameter plants.

I have separated our very prolific and delicious rhubarb. As a result I have 5 sections of sprouting rhubarb that need a home. Please come find them in our alley at 6047 42nd Ave SW in plastic bags or pots by the garbage bins. So that’s the alley between 42nd Ave and California Ave. Across from and one building north from O’Neil Plumbing. If you don’t see them, they are gone.

When I started Part B last fall, I got on the Premera Advantage plan. I had no sooner picked a PCP (no mean feat) than the docs canceled their contract. I canceled Premera soon after, as I could not find docs. I also found SHIBA to be of little help. They will explain the differences between supplemental and advantage plans, and provide a list of Washington state providers, but will not make recommendations or help with decision making. I feel for you, dogs; even though I used to manage a medical practice, the health insurance market has become an absolute nightmare to navigate. I agree with Rags that the clearest source of info is on the Medicare website.
