It depends on how far away the car is. If you are a safe stopping distance away, and see a jogger entering the crosswalk, it doesn’t matter their pace, you are responsible for stopping. Passing through “without issue” if you have the ability to stop is illegal. It’s pretty easy to also figure out when a jogger will reach the curb, unless they are running side to side and backward or changing erratic paces or are wearing a cloak of invisibility. It’s the same way you determine how fast a car or a walker or a cyclist is going. To echo to Skeeter’s post above, please keep in mind that intersections come in all shapes and sizes, i.e. it doesn’t need to be a 4 way intersection, or a painted, or well-lit or what you consider “safe” to cross. I see a lot of drivers blow through crosswalks where the street only intersects the other street on one side–say California and Hudson or California and Bradford, and various similar “3-way” intersections along our arterials.

I didn’t have time to search for a source when I posted earlier, but here is a link from a few months ago explaining the fee.

Please note that I “misspoke”, above, on the fee for higher cashback amounts. The article breaks down the fees as this:

For amounts between $100 and $150, the fee will be $1.50. For $150.01 to $2,000 it will cost you $3.50. For amounts between $2,001 and $9,999 it will cost $6 to get your cash.

I bought groceries at the AK Junction QFC today and paid with a Debit Card. I wanted to also get $20 cash back and a message came up that a 50 cent fee would be added. (!)
I don’t use cash very often so its been a while, but has anyone else noticed this “fee” in West Seattle? Are there still “fee free” grocery stores in the area? Or is this just a QFC thing?

Apologies if this subject has been addressed. Does anybody know what is up with the trees cut midway way up from Avalon to Olga on Admiral? I briefly saw Parks Dept. crews there but that tree “cutting” is kind of spectacular in a bad way.

As I was getting off the 21x today at Barton street, I could not find my glasses. I got off the bus at around 4:05 at Barton, and the glasses are by SEE Eyewear, tortoise shell frames. They must have fallen out of my pocket while riding the bus, but I couldn’t see them on the floor around me or the seats.

I know this is a long shot, but if anybody picked up a pair of glasses on the 21x this afternoon, I’d love to get them back. Let me know. Thanks!

    Hi there,

I live in a condo on Harbor Ave facing terminal 5, and I haven’t noticed too much more noise that’s directly related to the construction. However, between the rail cars going back and forth to the Nucor plant, and summer traffic to/from Alki, the overall noise level is definitely noticeable, especially in the summer. There’s also quite a bit of grit in the air – certainly more than I’ve noticed in other places I’ve lived. All that being said though, if you can install an air conditioner and keep the windows closed, it isn’t too bad.

    Good luck!

    Hello West Seattle Community,

I and my wife are considering to buy a place on Harbor Ave W facing terminal 5. We saw mountains of gravel on terminal 5 near the place that we are considering. Based on my research so far, I believe it’s for the construction of terminal 5 but feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I have a few questions and will appreciate if the community on this blog can help us:

    1) What are the (a) short-term and (b) long-term implications of this project can be for people living very close to the terminal? Short-term means while construction is on-going for the next couple of years and long-term once this terminal 5 is functional (i.e., traffic, ship/docking noise).

    2) What is the potential impact of this on real estate properties? During construction and while terminal 5 being functional in the future, will this have a negative impact on the properties that will be very close to the terminal? I know its a hard question to answer but I would love to take an opinion from the community here.

In the end, would you recommend me not to pursue this as my first house for a young couple who are expecting a baby soon? Or you think this project shouldn’t have any impact on my decision of buying this place.

    Will appreciate your response. thanks.

I will really miss Jan. She and I met here on WSB and became good friends. I enjoyed visiting with her over the years and lamenting our chronic illnesses. :) She was tough and a fighter, but also tired of it. So many years of seemingly back-to-back serious health crises take their toll after a while. I’m really sorry I hadn’t seen her in the last few months. Either one of us was sick and wanted to protect the other one, or life just got busy. I am glad I knew her.

I’m wondering about the reappearing “Mt. Poo” dog poo bags on the sidewalk, at the corner of Edmunds and SW 44th Ave, next to the Chase Bank and across from True value. Are dog owners waiting for the Dog Poo Fairy to appear and magically take the bags away? They were there last week and then someone cleaned them up (Thank you!), but when I drove by tonight, they were back :-(
It is very hard to like dog owners when they litter so blatantly like this. You’ve obviously taken the time and spent the money to buy the bags, is it so much to ask to complete the last step and dispose of them in YOUR TRASH CAN or a public can in the junction?
