UrbanFab…my kids are currently taking group swim lessons at the Matt Griffin Y in SeaTac as kayo above mentions, and they do have a wonderful children’s pool. They keep it much warmer than the average pool so it is more enticing to small children, and my boys love to get in it. They do offer private lessons, but you need to be a Y member. You could call them to see about availability and such though at (206) 244-5880. I couldn’t recommend the Matt Griffin Y and their swim lessons more highly though! We love it there!

Jan and her new kidney want to say THANK YOU for all your support over the past couple of years.

Join us this Saturday, July 20 at 8144 31st Ave SW for a variety of fun and celebratory activities:

    1) Do a Drive-By: On your way to or from your weekend events, drive by between 2 and 4pm when Jan will be holding court under the trees on the planting strip. Not only will she be there to thank you in person, there will be an amazing variety of goodie bags given out for every new donation that comes in.

    2) Stop and Stay a While: Also from 2-4pm, we are hosting an Art and Accessories Sale. Grab something that complements that piece you just got from the Alki Art Fair! All proceeds from this sale go toward Jan’s “Payin’ the Rent!” fund.

    3) Potluck and Play: If you have a fantastic recipe that you’d like to share, we’ll have prizes for the best edible in that category: Wine, Dessert, Appetizer, Salad. You can TRY to beat the prized recipe for Blonde Brownies…if you dare!

    4) Dine and Dance: Stay a little longer and share food, beverage and entertainment with us—the shindig will last until early evening. An open bar will be available and our bartender is generously donating all his tips to Jan.

    5) Other Opportune Opportunities: Other donation opportunities will be available during this event, and prizes will be given for many of these.

This event is for everyone. Give, get back, get prizes and get hugs! Everyone Wins!

It’s spontaneous, it’s fun, and it’s rewarding—we look forward to seeing you for however long you can join us!

skeeter that is the point I have been indirectly stating. the State Constitution identifies Education as the paramount duty of the State. And the D’s have failed to meet this duty!

neighboring Oregon spends 50% of its budget on education whereas Washington spend 44%. Consequently Oregon Tuition is 25% less.

    UW tuition/fees $12,483/year

    U of Oregon $9,310

ST – your flyer must be different from the one a Twitter user called to our attention some days ago, with this photo, which says “The US Department of Agriculture can help us. Let’s pool our resources and save our beloved pets.” Photo from Twitter user @KFTemple:

    https://twitter.com/KFTemple/status/353250056532537344/photo/1

We went to the neighborhood subsequently to see if the flyers were real. And flyers like that one (we took our own photo) are the only ones we saw, on multiple poles, mostly on Admiral east of Metro Market and also near the library.

I am sorry about Bee Bee; we are mourning a cat too.

I am not saying $9,310 is affordable but it is significantly less than at the UW. Oregon spends a higher percentage of its State budget (~50%) on education than Washington does (~44%)

yes washington does have a pre-pay program.

The condition of the seat doesn’t matter as long as the air-lift mechanism still works. This is for a small display I have to build to demo my children’s products at Pike Place Market. Myr-myr 344-3338.

I’ve been invited to demo my products at a store in Pike Place Market, but they can only afford me a small space – about the size of a tray table. Anyone have such a table hanging around unused?

I’m also in need of a tall chair or bar stool with an air-lift lever. The condition of the seat doesn’t matter as long as the air-lift mechanism still works. Myr-myr 344-3338.

The State Law regarding allowing Big Brother is:

    http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.63.170

The law requires that an analysis be conducted prior to implementation. I contacted the City to obtain the Safety Analysis. No such report was provided to me; after repeated requests.

I then requested, obtained and reviewed City accident data for Fauntleroy Way SW between SW Holly and Othello Streets since January 1, 2003. The data showed no specific problem locations and the street section reviewed operates with a lower accident rate than average for an urban minor arterial street. No safety issue exists at this location. And further there is a pedestrian actuated signal that provides protected signal crossing of Fauntleroy Way SW at Gatewood Elementary School.

Further review of the State Law indicates that the fine rate cannot exceed the rate of a parking ticket.

“The amount of the fine issued for an infraction generated through the use of an automated traffic safety camera shall not exceed the amount of a fine issued for other parking infractions within the jurisdiction”

My understanding is that the typical parking fine in Seattle is $44 yet the City is charging $189 for the camera infraction. This is not consistent to the State Law.

Essentially the City is being disingenuous regarding the camera program, they claim safety yet they conducted no Traffic Safety Study prior to the program implementation as required by the State Law, and are charging more for the fines than authorized by the law.

Review of City accident data on Fauntleroy Way SW near Gatewood Elementary shows that this street section operated with a lower accident rate than than the typical urban minor arterial street.

with all the info WSB has posted (and continues to post) on coyotes, it should be no surprise to anyone that they are here, co-exist, and eat small prey. Rodents make up a large part of their diet, but so will anything small enough and “uneducated” about the dangers around them (i.e.: domestic cats -vs- feral cats).

My sympathies ARE with those that lost/lose their pets – it’s a horrible thing to lose an animal by any means. For many of us, they are our children. So keep them close to you, just as you would your children.

Brenda Divers whose cat Bella was killed by a coyote in the middle of the night, posted the flyers in Admiral.

KOMO 4 has picked up on the story. There is another story on the site encouraging people to keep their cats in for their health and safety.

the current budget is ~$66.5 billion and in the 2003-2005 biennium it was ~44.8 billion; thus the budget has increased by almost 50 percent.

social service spending in washington consumes 43% of the budget (that is too much and does not serve the middle class) and education spending is about 44% of the budget (that should be higher to better serve the middle class).

My dad lost his old, faithful hammer on Thursday June 27th. We think it fell off the bumper of his truck somewhere between Fauntleroy and the Junction. We believe it was picked up soon after he lost it.

The hammer is a steel brown handled Rocket brand hammer. The “Rocket” is long worn off. The hammer as a whole is very worn down.

This hammer has lots of sentimental value; it was given to my dad by his father some 50 years ago, when my dad was around 10. My dad has always worked in the family construction business (which my grandpa started) in West Seattle. This hammer has built countless homes/apartments, including my parents own house. This is definitely a family heirloom, which we hope to frame one day. They don’t make these hammers anymore.

We are praying someone picked up the hammer and has it sitting around!!

If found, or if you saw it, please call me at 206.419.9445

Those who signed the petition requesting a public hearing regarding the proposed rowhouse project on 55th Ave SW should have been contacted by now by the city with information about the meeting. In case that information didn’t reach you, here it is.

    Date: Wednesday, July 17

    Time: 6:30 – 8 p.m.

Where: Youngstown Cultural Arts Center, 4408 Delridge Way SW

This is a SEPA environmental meeting – comments (written or oral) submitted should address the environmental impact of the project. The meeting is open to the public.

There’s a lot to talk about, from parking issues to potential flooding problems and sewage overflows into Puget Sound. For more information go to http://www.whereiamnow.net/ and click on Alki Rowhouse Controversy.
