Margie,
First, thank you for selecting a health issue that is not well understood by the average person. My middle brother was diagnosed with Colitis when he was 15 years old; he is now 58.
He is
-5′ 10″ and on a heavy day, weighs 120 lbs
-in pain every day; on really bad days, he is doubled over in pain and ‘curled up’ when he walks
-always frail looking
Eating food he enjoys can make him sick one time and not the next. Can you imagine? Being hungry and not knowing whether you’ll be running to the bathroom within minutes of eating?
Even in pain he gets up and participates in activities that he likes such as fishing and going to sports shows.
A good friend has Crohn’s and is now in remission. Watching her go through four years of it was heartbreaking.
My question to you is, ‘what percentage of the donations’ will go to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America? In some cases, very little of the money actually goes to the non-profit because the ‘business’ that organizes the walk/run gets the largest cut (sometimes up to 90%). You are invited to email me the answer @ funkietoo@hotmail.com.
Thanks again for selecting a cause that is not well understood (including by some of my own family members).
