Raincity
I appreciate the effort of SDOT to reach out to communities affected by the reworking of the waterfront. I am very frustrated, though, at the emphasis on the car in the solutions. The bicycle route crosses back and forth multiple times and for a good stretch you “share” the sidewalk with pedestrians. I’m a pedestrian 75% and bicyclist 25% and I feel both are extremely compromised for safety. I don’t ride fast, but due to the heavy pedestrian and bicycle traffic trying to get to and from the ferry docs as well as west seattle it is not safe. Signage is bad – try to go south in this zone from University Street- good luck! In one section the bike/ped path just ends – no signs. At Madison heading south, you would ride up on the side walk and off the curb on the other side. Yes – and you will wait, and wait, and wait at the signals. Signage is better going north. I have spoken with WSDOT reps and the answer is “there is no room” and that they have consulted bicycle groups for input. They need to do their part and introduce some modifications to make the solutions a little more equitable.
