Thanks to Mark Wangerin for the photo of sanderlings; he says, “Now that the tide is lower during daylight hours, sanderlings are frequently seen south of the Alki Lighthouse. They are perhaps the most common and frequent sandpipers to visit our shores.” Might be a little cold for beachwalking today, though. SOUTH PARK GREEN SPACE: For those who work and/or live in South Park, it’s time to speak out about a greener future – a 5-8 pm event tonight:

South Park provides a ripe and exciting opportunity for the creation and enhancement of parks, trails, and green spaces. Today, the neighborhood has fewer parks per than many other communities in the city, and public access to the Duwamish River is limited.

However, this is poised to change. Through the South Park Green Space Vision Plan, neighbors are coming together to collectively envision a different future for their shared public spaces. The South Park Green Space Vision Plan is engaging residents, businesses and workers to identify needs, opportunities and priorities for improved public spaces, such as parks, playgrounds, trails, greenways, viewpoints, dog parks and sidewalks. Based on community feedback, a vision plan for a network of connected public spaces will be developed for South Park, as well as designs for the top priority opportunities.

Same as last Saturday, WSDOT is closing multiple lanes (the number might fluctuate) on northbound I-5, not too far past the entrance from the West Seattle Bridge – note the red X’s in the “live” image above. ‘WHAT DO YOU LOOK LIKE AT NIGHT?’ West Seattle Bike Connections is going to help you answer that:

This evening we are inviting any cyclists, runners, roller-bladers, and walkers who are ever out in the dark-hours to come by and be video-taped to see how they appear to those around you.

See first-hand from another point of view just how well, or not, your lights and/or reflective gear work from all angles and in different lighting situations.

We will be meeting at Jack Block Park (just south of Salty’s) on Harbor Ave, arriving at roughly 5-5:15 and going until 7 at the latest when the park closes.

Enter the park from Harbor and follow the road (SW Florida St) back and around the curve to the left, we plan to meet there just at the road straightens out. We hope to SEE you there.

WEST SEATTLE PRESCHOOL FAIR: 5:30-7:30 pm tonight at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church (California/Hanford). Here’s the list of two dozen participating schools and vendors (among them, WSB sponsors West Seattle Montessori, Westside School, and A Kids Place Dentistry).

NORTH DELRIDGE NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL: 6:30 pm tonight at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center (4408 Delridge Way SW) in room 103, it’s the monthly NDNC meeting. Topics include defining the boundaries of North Delridge as part of the group’s bylaws review, upcoming grant deadlines, and overall 2014 planning.
