The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) advises travelers that crews will be paving SW Admiral Way from SW Lander St to SW Stevens St, beginning Tuesday, August 15 through Friday, August 18.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15 through Friday, August 18, travelers can expect:

Crews will be paving SW Admiral Way from SW Lander St to SW Stevens St.
Traffic in each direction will be detoured to use the parking lanes.
Parking will be restricted.
72 hours before work starts temporary “No Parking” signs will be placed.
Traffic will have slight delays during work hours.
You may enter and exit driveways, but you may have to wait up to 15 minutes for equipment to clear.
If possible, use alternate routes during construction.
King County Metro bus stops are not expected to be impacted.
This project is part of SDOT’s Arterial Major Maintenance (AMM) program. The AMM program maintains our busiest streets by making strategic small-scale investments at key locations on city streets.
SDOT would like to thank the public for its patience while this work is completed.

WATER TAXI-LESSNESS, DAY 4: The King County Water Taxi for both West Seattle and Vashon Island continues to be out of service while its downtown dock is moved to a temporary (year and a half) location on the north side of Colman Dock. KCDOT said this could last up to a week and has not issued any formal updates; we’ll be asking today how it’s going.

STATE FERRY TASK FORCE: The Triangle Route Task Force meets today to talk about ongoing attempts to address backups at Fauntleroy. Riders say boats are continuing to leave less-than-full at peak times. The public is welcome at the meeting, 4:30-7 pm at Fauntleroy UCC (9140 California SW).

WATER TAXI REMINDER: Today is day two without King County Water Taxi service – both the West Seattle and Vashon runs are on hold while the downtown dock moves to a new temporary location on the north side of the Washington State Ferries terminal. The outage could last up to a week; when service resumes, not only will the new dock be in use for about a year and a half, but there also will be a new schedule.

From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9, travelers can expect:

·Crews to be paving Beach Dr SW between SW Andover St and SW Charlestown St
·One lane in each direction will remain open to traffic while crews are working
·Flaggers will assist with traffic control
·There will be “No Parking” on Beach Dr SW between SW Andover St and SW Charlestown St while this work is being done
·Traffic may have slight delays during operation hours
·Drivers may enter and exit driveways, but may have to wait up to 15 minutes for equipment to clear

Though the original plan was to repave 63rd SW this week, south of Alki SW, it was still in the condition shown above (photographed Thursday evening) when we took another look earlier today. At day’s end, SDOT sent this updated schedule:

-There will be lane closures 24 hours a day on 63rd Ave SW between Alki Ave SW and SW Admiral Way.
-The two inside general purpose lanes on 63rd Ave SW will be closed.
-The bike lanes on 63rd Ave SW will be closed. A signed detour will be posted.
-Northbound and southbound traffic on 63rd Ave SW will be routed to the outside curb lanes until the work can be completed.
-There will be no parking on 63rd Ave SW during this time.
-The work is expected to be completed on August 8.

5:40 PM: A collision between a driver and motorcycle rider has California closed at Brandon. No info on injuries yet.

5:46 PM: The two-wheeled vehicle involved is actually a scooter, our crew says. The man who was riding it will be taken to the hospital but is not believed to have major injuries; he is alert and conscious. The car driver is reported to be unhurt. Because no one has life-threatening injuries, the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad will not be dispatched, and the scene is likely to clear within an hour.

5:49 PM: Southbound California has just been reopened; northbound remains blocked at the scene.

5:59 PM: Northbound California has now reopened too.

7:11 AM: We’ve checked around and there are no incidents of note in/from West Seattle so far. Looking ahead to tomorrow:

TORCHLIGHT RUN VIADUCT CLOSURE: The route includes the Alaskan Way Viaduct, which will be closed northbound 5-7:45 pm Saturday night, while southbound remains open.

HARBOR AVENUE PARKING RESTRICTIONS: As noted here on Thursday, both sides of Harbor Avenue between the bridge and the T-5 entrance have parking restrictions for tonight/tomorrow because of Torchlight Parade float storage. Seafair hasn’t responded to our request for schedule details but in past years the floats have headed out around 8 am Saturday, headed downtown, and that’s led to some traffic effects.

PORT TRUCKS: As previewed here last night, the West Seattle Transportation Coalition will talk port-truck backups tonight with a rep from the Seattle/Tacoma port partnership Northwest Seaport Alliance – 6:30 pm, Neighborhood House High Point (6400 Sylvan Way SW).

TORCHLIGHT RUN SATURDAY NIGHT: The route includes the Alaskan Way Viaduct, so expect closures. This WSDOT webpage has specifics: “The northbound lanes of the State Route 99 Alaskan Way Viaduct between Royal Brougham Way and Harrison Street will be closed from 5 to 7:45 pm.”

TORCHLIGHT RUN CLOSING VIADUCT SATURDAY NIGHT: The pre-Torchlight Parade run is back as part of Seafair this year, and on Saturday night, it’ll close the Alaskan Way Viaduct for a while.

7:02 AM: Good morning. There’s a crash response in the 1300 block of Alki SW right now, though SFD closed out of it within minutes – no other outbound incidents from West Seattle so far.

7:15 AM: Trouble on NB I-5 – stalled vehicle blocking right lane before Seneca.

7:40 AM: I-5 now clear but slow.

10:21 AM: If you’re headed to or from the Fauntleroy ferry terminal, or Lincoln Park, note that a multiple-car crash is reported in the 7500 block of Fauntleroy Way. No serious injuries reported so far but police say “two of the vehicles can’t move” and SFD has been dispatched.

10:35 AM: The collision is on the north side, as shown in our photo; traffic is being directed around via south-side lanes, including what would be the ferry waiting lane if this were a busier outbound time of day. SFD has already left after determining that no one needed to be treated.

6:58 AM: SDOT just finished cleaning up after a crash on the west end of the westbound bridge last hour, re-setting the jersey barriers near Charlestown, and that was affecting eastbound traffic. We’ve heard police (via scanner) just report that the scene is clear.

7 AM: SDOT has also just verified this as well. Meantime, road alert from King County, starting today and lasting about two weeks: SW 104th is closed from 15th Ave SW to 16th Ave SW; crews are “replacing a deep, deteriorated underground drainage system.”
