BIZNOTE: Here’s what’s up with Gyro Heroes

Several readers have asked if we know why Gyro Heroes in The Admiral District has been closed for a few days, with a sign in the window declaring that it’s just “temporarily” closed. When we went by the first time, no one was there to ask, but just now, we found crews at work, and learned that this is a remodeling closure – they’re redoing a lot of what’s inside, even the flooring. They hope to reopen within a week. The restaurant opened almost seven years ago in what had previously been a Baskin-Robbins.

Maybe I should revisit to try their gyro.

Several years ago commenters were raving about this shop.
I tried Gyro Heroes and was disappointed that they had no Doner Kebab,  just limp steam tray meat that had none of the signature char I so long for in Seattle.

    Any recommendations?

I cannot speak to what a donerman would like. My go to is the kufta or shawarma plate (mix up the meat choice on the shawarma plate).

There’s a doner kebab restaurant in Belltown.

It might be because döner kebabs are German.

Donor Kebabs are one of many ethnic fast foods in served Germany, but not originated there. “Doner kebab or döner kebab [a] is a dish of Turkish origin made of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie.”Never visited Turkey but I’ve enjoyed them in Greece and throughout Europe and the Los Angeles area.
The vertical rotisserie with the stacked slices of meat allows the signature sizzle and char, freshly sliced per order.

Döner kebabs are Turkish food. Many Turks emigrated to Germany, so it’s also common there.

Gyros on Alki has Doner kebab. They’re huge and pretty dang good.

Lately, their food is better than it’s ever been!

One of our fav spots in WS. Tried to order online the other day but online ordering was closed. Thanks for the details on the reasoning. We’ll be ready to grub when they reopen. Side note, I think they changed up their hummus recently. Not bad but original recipe was better.

I am relieved to hear this. I always get the gyros plate. Perfect seasoning! Does anyone know the approximate date of reopening?
