Skies Over West Seattle update: ‘Northern Lights’ alert right now

(Photo by Jason Ayres Gift Enevoldsen – click image for larger view)
11:30 PM: Just got word from Alice Enevoldsen, our Skies Over West Seattle correspondent, that aurora – aka “Northern Lights” – activity is happening out there right now. Alice’s advice: Look north. Let us know if you see it! Her recommended info source: softservenews.com.

12:35 AM: It faded fast, says Alice. We couldn’t see anything by the time we got to Alki to look. (But note that Alice says it’s possible again Saturday night.)

    I’m on Alki. Granted, the sodium vapor lights are getting in the way, but I’m seeing very little in the way of aurora. I shot a few pictures and there’s a faint green glow in the north, but it’s not visible to the naked eye.

      Fading, agree Alice and other experts. I couldn’t see anything by the time I got to Alki. Oh well!

    I saw pink clouds out on North Alki. Probably lit up by the city.

    didn’t see the northern lights but we did watch the M’s first ever fireworks show from the street end next to Salty’s- with a few other West Seattleites. nice end to a good day. the show wasn’t as spectacular as a 4th of July show, but was certainly much better than I thought it would be.
    if we had just been sky-watching for 30 more minutes…..

    Beautiful! Good work catching that!

    Alice Enevoldsen is SO COOL!

    It was definitely a tough one to catch. The pink was city glow, but the green was the aurora. It was much easier to catch on camera, probably will be tonight too. Don’t expect those waving curtains you see in photos, but a wash of thw “wrong” color light in the sky, with perhaps some vertical brighter and darker columns if it gets really good.
    .
    Tonight’s definitely took a practiced eye, or a camera.

    @Jordan: awwwww, you flatter me!

Sorry, comment time is over.
