JoBParticipantkootch..
i would have thought you would admire the Mayor of Boston for his political grandstanding…
you sure cheer for the teapublicans who have spent an entire term doing nothing but
August 13, 2012 at 2:10 pm #765071
JoBParticipantredblack..
the DOD is so ok with gays serving openly that they just promoted their first openly gay colonel and invited her life partner to participate in the ceremony..
somebody is soooo behind the times
August 13, 2012 at 3:24 pm #765072
miwsParticipantfor some reason teapublicans seem to think it is more important to limit women’s legal access to abortion than to create jobs or build infrastructure or …
What is…..stronger gun control, Alex?
August 13, 2012 at 7:51 pm #765073
kootchmanMemberExecutive order… so not durable. The TEApublicans have done a lot.. in fact there is a transportation and infrastructure bill sitting on Harry Reids .. and has been there for two years. Sitting.

kootchmanMember“and keep an eye on the supreme court. the legal challenges to denying same sex partners the same legal rights that opposite sex partners enjoy aren’t faring well in the state courts..” Oh yea… California has deemed unconstitutional.. surprised? Missouri upheld them.. surprised? DoD is ok cause their commander in chief said it was ok… an executive order is hardly a permanent state of affairs… the next one may issue an executive order saying it is not ok.

redblackParticipantan executive order is hardly a permanent state of affairs… the next one may issue an executive order saying it is not ok.
and what would that tell you about the signor’s empathy?
let’s get down to brass tacks:
people who oppose gays serving openly in the military believe that the only thing that gay people think about is sex – probably because they have sexual hang-ups of their own – and, therefore, gays can’t shoot straight.
can i get an “amen?”
also, too, jesus said that homosexuality is an abomination.
umm. hmmm. [rifles through some papers] uh, sorry. i can’t find that quote in the good book.
and, furthermore, i can’t figure out what in the hell any of that has to do with one’s constitutional rights to serve in the military, marry someone of the same gender, or eat at chick-effin’-a.
evolve.

kootchmanMemberDude… it’s all about the thumb of government on the scales. There are millions of Christians who support same sex marriage. The place to decide that is where it is being decided. You have no constitutional right to serve in the military…. can’t find it anywhere… what amendment did you find that right in? The military rejects enlistees every day… for any number of reasons. This president issued an executive order… it is as durable as long as he holds the office. That’s just a simple fact. If the next CIC hears from his Joints Chiefs of Staff that openly gay members are a valued contribution to the fighting force and it was much ado about nothing.. they order will stand. How simple is that? According to actual law however… that el presidente does not have options about…and as it now stands, the Defense of Marriage Act is federal law, enacted by Congress. There is no constitutional right to same sex marriage. That’s pretty simple to understand too. I think we are “evolving” .. and at some point the practicality of the issue will be such that most states will recognize same sex marriage. Is that not the debate in from of WA voters now? Personally, everyone who has ever served in the military knows there are gay solders, sailors, Marines, airmen… it was not a big deal then.. I doubt it is now. Be careful of statements like “people who oppose” and then transfer your beliefs on them…. y’ think? CFA can express whatever they believe in… the dialogue makes the evolution possible…. or self interest with campaign fund on the line.

Oh, yeah.
If a Dan Cathy-esque CIC was ever elected to plant his butt in the big chair in the Oval Office, that order would stand, alright.
Yeah.
Yep.
Uh-huh.
Righty-O.
Pretty simple…..

the defense of marriage act isn’t faring so well as it works it’s way through the courts
August 18, 2012 at 9:49 pm #765079
kootchmanMemberYa think so? He employs gay persons miws.. It’s been working its way through the courts since the day it was enacted. But, as it now stands.. it is the law. The same rights that are granted to advocate for and the rights to advocate against. The point was, and is… government should not be used a social engineering tool that is not legal. That was the case for CFA. Advocacy as you well know, because you do it… is legal for all sides of a debate.
August 18, 2012 at 10:47 pm #765080
miwsParticipant<blockquote=>government should not be used a social engineering tool that is not legal
I concur with you, good sir!
The Government should stay out of women’s uteri.
Mike
August 18, 2012 at 11:36 pm #765081
kootchmanMemberOK… miws.. I will support that… as long as government doesn’t use tax dollars to support Planned Parenthood. It’s none of their business. Not selectively pick and choose.. the only reason the government is involved is … because there are tax dollars involved. Now good sir.. get out of the uterus meddling entirely. I don’t see Dan Cathy taking a pay cut to be POTUS… do you know something?
August 19, 2012 at 4:23 pm #765082
JoBParticipantkootch..
“as long as government doesn’t use tax dollars to support Planned Parenthood.”
i had no idea you were against the public funding of women’s health clinics kootch…
i have a hard time seeing early detection of STDs and cancer screening as anything more than health care…
for many low income women, planned parenthood is their only source of health care.
You don’t have to be involved with a woman’s uterus to provide basic health screening kootch..
that’s what health clinics are for.
August 19, 2012 at 11:06 pm #765083
kootchmanMemberAs long as provide abortion services… class or ethnic cleansing, eugenics, it’s not acceptable for federal funding. You can wrap it in the mantle of holy healthcare.. but until it stops providing abortion services, it’s not “just” healthcare. we have heard the breast care screenings, the STD’.. the blood pressure screenings.. great! Soon as they stop providing abortions, they are a healthcare clinic. Semantics is not something that makes the issue go away or makes a compelling argument. Said it before, I will say it again…you have the right. Doesn’t mean we have to provide it when it is so morally objectionable. PP will have to come to a decision, provide healthcare with federal tax support or retain their identity as an at will life termination services provider. It won’t be both. As fate would have it.. the states have been remarkably active, and successful, in shutting down PP centers. Reflecting the cultural and moral values of the citizens within those borders. Calling a turkey a canary will not make it sing. You are not going to shut down the voices of opposition.. you have the right. You don;t have the right to funds. That can be withdrawn at any time.. That’s a fair compromise.
August 19, 2012 at 11:16 pm #765084
JanSParticipantclass or ethnic cleansing? where the he!! do you get this stuff?
abortion is a legal healthcare issue…get over it…and you do realize that they don”t do abortions in PP clinics..right? you DO know that, don’t you?
August 20, 2012 at 2:03 am #765085
kootchmanMemberI get from reading history books JaN… particularly the origins of PP and one Ms. Sanger.. who was an avid eugenicist and proponent of restricting the “non-fit” to reproduce. It was quite the rage. You too can find the same stuff… at the local library. Abortion for convenience is not the majority view, no matter how much PP has tried to clean it up. I sat in a PP clinic Jan, while a friend received one. Now tell me it didn’t happen! Go ahead. Do you know why the most anti-abortion demographic is in the minority community? They are the ones being the target of class and ethnic cleansing. And… as long as federal funds are being used…. it’s part of a legitimate public debate. The turkey does not sound like a canary. You have the right to have one.. you don’t have the right to have it paid for out of the purse of an objecting public. Hey.. I have second amendment rights… let’s slap a tax on the general public.. anyone that want a gun can get a federal voucher which the can redeem for one. A right is not a general pulbic obligation.
August 20, 2012 at 2:05 am #765086
kootchmanMemberHere ya go Jan… right from PP web site
In-Clinic Abortion Procedures at a Glance
Medical procedures that end pregnancy
Safe and effective
Available from many Planned Parenthood health centers
Costs about $300–$950 in the first trimester.

Now that correction has been made…… matters of conscience are not hate speech or action. The owner of CFa has a differing point of view. His absolute right to oppose same sex marriage is the same right others use to support it.
August 20, 2012 at 7:34 pm #765087
skeeterParticipantHello JanS. You are incorrect in post #90. Planned Parenthood is the largest elective abortion provider in the U.S. They perform 300,000 abortions per year in their clinics.

JoBParticipantkootch..
can you explain to me what is wrong with an organization that takes great care to separate the funding for it’s health services and abortions to provide a legal service?
it is legal in the United States to provide abortions…
until that changes you have some splaining to do.
skeeter..
“They perform 300,000 abortions per year in their clinics.”
in their abortion clinics…
Did you look to see how many of their clinics actually offer abortions?
and i am guessing you missed that little part about how they keep the accounting and funding for the two types of clinics separate didn’t you?
August 20, 2012 at 7:47 pm #765089
skeeterParticipantJoB – legality has nothing to do with it. Everyone agrees that abortions are legal in the U.S. But… some people feel so strongly about the importance of protecting unborn human life that they are simply unable to support an organization that provides abortions, even if the organization also performs services that they see as beneficial.
August 20, 2012 at 7:52 pm #765090
skeeterParticipantJoB – Sorry I forgot the second part of your post. I have no doubt that planned parenthood keeps funding for the two types of services/clinics separate. I am merely correcting a pretty material incorrect piece of information in post #90.
August 21, 2012 at 4:13 am #765091
kootchmanMemberAs I have said in the past.. PP puts the franchise at risk. If it confined itself to womens health sans the abortion on demand revenue center.. there would be no dust up. As long as the provide ethnic and class cleansing as a funding source, the will remain in the cross hairs of conscience.
August 21, 2012 at 3:20 pm #765092
JoBParticipantkootch..
the franchise?
in Texas funding for all family planning has been drastically cut.. including those family planning clinics that were used as the justification for making cuts in planned parenthood.
the old lie that the republican agenda would eliminate abortion and not birth control doens’t fly any more.
Can you explain to me the reasoning behind the idea that people who can afford to have and raise children should have access to birth control because they can afford it but those who can’t afford to have and raise children shouldn’t?
Can you explain to me how that is a fiscally responsible strategy?
probably not.
August 21, 2012 at 3:22 pm #765093
JoBParticipantskeeter..
so does the sanctity of life only apply to unborn children?
because those services you are willing to sacrifice for the benefit of the unborn keep living women alive.
this is the biggest problem i have with the right to life movement…
for them the right to life begins at conception and ends at birth.
August 21, 2012 at 4:15 pm #765094
JanSParticipantThings I find amusing. We all have an idea now as to what Texas would like to do with abortion clinics. Then I read about the new Planned Parenthood facility that opened in Houston in 2010. It cost $26 million , and is the largest PP facility in the nation. I guess I’m surprised that the city planners in Houston let this go forward, considering how everyone there wants PP to be defunded.
