IrukandjiParticipantWow. After having been given a bad email address for the Operations Manager, I called today to ask about an updated class list since many teachers have quit. I was told I could drive in to get one. When I asked if I could leave a message for a call back or have the class list sent by email, I was told NO – that person was in a meeting and couldn’t respond to my request. When I asked if we should just assume all classes are cancelled, I got the response “Yeah, okay,” then was hung up on. So much for trying to contact management to get a class list or express disappointment in the loss of good teachers.

ElizagraceParticipantWho left (instructor wise)? Are all classes off? For how long? OH no!!! I was out of town last week and am so looking forward to my Tuesday Pilates and Yoga combo class – is this not happening anymore?
November 18, 2013 at 10:28 pm #799716
BillMemberI just spoke to them, and was told that all classes have not been cancelled, just some. The updated schedule is available at the desk.

BillMemberAlso Elizagrace, I asked about Tuesday Pilates, it is on

BillMemberJust got back from Pilates, and have the new schedule, not too much has changed. So not sure what is happening at this club.
November 19, 2013 at 10:07 pm #799720
IrukandjiParticipantHere’s a little of what’s going on with the OAC clubs. I’m sure WSB is looking into more local specifics.

IrukandjiParticipantAnd this (sorry it comes with pop-up ads):

datamuseParticipantI don’t have a horse in this race, so to speak, but…where the hell is the money going? It sounds like it’s still coming in, whether the members trying to cancel their memberships want it to or not. How is it that this business can’t pay its bills? Are they really that inept?

WSBKeymasterIf anyone reading this is an instructor or knows one, I need to talk to some … particularly this afternoon. I can be reached @ editor@westseattleblog.com … TR

CupajoeMemberNo water at the gym today…….
November 20, 2013 at 8:41 pm #799725
on boardParticipantThere were four other people at the counter filling out cancellation paperwork when I was there this weekend. I cancelled but am not confident there is anyone behind the scenes to actually make account changes based on the paperwork I filled out.
November 20, 2013 at 8:57 pm #799726
BillMemberCupajoe, I was there at 9am and there was water in the gym.
No soap in the showers though
November 20, 2013 at 9:06 pm #799727
rollerskatekateMemberNIA is happening tonight with Melanie and Ann, but they’re treating it as if it were the last class; they’re not teaching after November. I think all the water aerobics instructors have left, too. Sad. Really sad.
November 20, 2013 at 9:27 pm #799728
GreystreetParticipantLiterally just left the gym, no water at all, handing out bottles of water…Giant pow-wow in the upstairs “waste of space” offices with all of the instructors, it’s sad but we should maybe abandon ship at this point, I see padlocks in the near future…I’ll be checking out other places this weekend if this place is even open after this week, hate to sound negative but there’s been no promising signs of change besides optimistic employees which I’m grateful for
November 20, 2013 at 10:44 pm #799729
rollerskatekateMemberI’m praying hard to the gym gods that they deliver us a new stellar owner! With a prime location, great space, and parking isn’t there anybody out there that can save this sinking ship?
November 21, 2013 at 12:37 am #799730
JanSParticipantGreystreet, when you say no water at all, do you mean just for drinking? Or are you also talking about bathroom facilities, as in sinks, showers, toilets? One is just annoying, the other is a health hazard..
November 21, 2013 at 12:58 am #799731
cathorseMemberI have emailed the owner Sam Adams and told him politely but pointedly what I think. His reply is “we’re working on it”. Not sure what that means? His email address is “sam@oaclubs.com” if you’re so inclined.
I’m hoping now that they go bankrupt, and have this dream that all of us who care for the place could join together and run it, maybe like a coop. Less emphasis on the folks hanging around the desk, more on the housekeeping and fitness staff.
Just my two cents…
November 21, 2013 at 1:23 am #799732
GreystreetParticipantJanS, there was no water in bathrooms in the locker room or the showers, so I’m guessing the toilets wouldn’t flush either.
November 21, 2013 at 3:16 am #799733
Genesee HillParticipantMy wife has enjoyed that gym for several years. And still does.
She has been saddened that there are some “members” who think that it is fine to steal from the gym. Towels, shampoo, soap, conditioner, hair dryers, etc. This has been going on for several years.
So, in light of this membership theft, perhaps, management has been fighting a losing battle against some of the West Seattle Gym “Rats”, or vermin.
The above is in addition to the petty theft out of member lockers, that is, purses, money, credit cards, cell phones, etc.
Always two sides to a story…and we all know there is scuz in West Seattle…and then there are people trying to make a buck, legitimately.
Bummer.
November 21, 2013 at 3:51 am #799734
IrukandjiParticipantWell, no question some people help themselves to towels, and sad but true no one should leave their valuables in an unlocked locker (or car, or home), but it seems Sam Adams already has a track record of failure that started in other clubs before taking on this one.
I’m saddened to loose a great teacher, what was a wonderful childcare team, and use of a clean even if cool pool: I paid a heap to remain a member for the long run because of these benefits. Since the takeover, I’ve lost all three things that mattered to me. The locker room has always been sub-par, as have the upstairs restrooms. That they’ve gotten WORSE is laughable.
November 21, 2013 at 5:49 am #799735
sb2780MemberWSB–maybe someone can chime in here, but one of the cycle instructors mentioned in class on Tuesday that next week would be his last week due to the gym’s financial issues. His name is Ed and he’s been teaching at the gym for 10 + years. I don’t have his last name, but hopefully someone here can help.
November 21, 2013 at 6:29 am #799736
JanSParticipantGreystreet…maybe the health department needs to know about that..
November 21, 2013 at 7:55 am #799737
CupajoeMemberGenesee Hill , you are clueless to say the least!!! Shampoo, soap, and conditioner??? Really? All three products that you push a lever to get a small amount of. And some people take the .25 cent towels home. It’s obvious you use your wife’s stories and you have never been in a gym but this is not why the gym is financially failing Look up a club in downtown Seattle called Vision Quest that Sam Adams ran into the ground. An easy sign for things to come. He had no money in the first place!!!
Ing .
November 21, 2013 at 10:12 am #799738
Genesee HillParticipantThanks for the compliment. Just passing on what my wife, a member for many years has told me. Next, you are going to tell me the club was a picture of financial health prior to Sam’s purchase of it. I have simply stated another side to the story: members “borrowing” things. Those towels must be really cheap if they cost a quarter of a cent. LOL
