captainDaveParticipantmark47n: Yes, I meant Tourettes. I get so involved in trying to avoid the trigger words that cause my posts to disappear that sometimes I forget to spellcheck. I can no longer post links on the blog for some reason, so you will have to just keyword search it yourself if you are inclined to do so.
I delivered many truckloads of dunnage lumber to Bethlehem Steel in the late 70’s. I used to sneak in and watch the ingots being poured. My neighbor, now in his mid 90’s, was the night foreman of the mill back when a live grenade was accidentally put in the melting pot with the scrap. One guy was killed.
misw: a Y-pipe works better for the combustion chamber. Using “Net” brand hairspray, I was able to get a potato to go well over 1,500′. … or completely vaporize on a concrete wall at 50′.

captainDaveParticipantJanS: Sorry, can’t post links. There was a bunch of cell-phone videos on YouTube of the incident if they haven’t been scrubbed by now. Why did the police let the gunman go if it was a clear case of discharging a deadly weapon at an innocent person on a school campus? Seems to me they would have to have an official reason to turn the guy lose so quickly. Maybe he was Secret Service or a Russian diplomat or something?
Did you watch the event online to know what it is that you want to have cen-sored? I watched some of it but didn’t see anything illegal or remotely like the K-K-K stuff described in the mainstream press. He seems like a lot of entertainers except that his content mocks the left rather than right. I can see where he would get you guys upset, but that’s not a good enough reason to end free speech.
Where did I say shooting protesters was good? I am just saying that’s where it’s headed with the escalating violence. Don’t shoot the messenger.
February 6, 2017 at 7:50 pm #873265
mark47nParticipantI’m sure you knew how to spell Tourettes, but it was just too good an error to pass up.
A grenade?! that’s awful! The worst explosions that we get generally come from sealed containers like an axle or something. We did, however, get bulletins from another one of our mills to keep our eyes open fro fracking pipes. These are embedded with small explosive charges (think hydrostatic pressure). While it’s not necessarily an issue here I’m pretty sure I found some a few years ago. I pulled it out of the scrap yard and had it hauled off. We also use really sensitive radiation detectors for scrap that comes into the plant and it gets scanned again as it leaves the scrap yard on its way to the furnace. WE also have one on the baghouse on the E. end of the property. If it goes off, though, it’s way too late. We just vaporized a radioactive source and blew it all over West Seattle. This, however, has never happened. If the detectors at the gate go off the truck isn’t even allowed on the property and if one goes off in the scrap yard all activity stops until we figure out what happened. Usually it’s weather or dust, we can tell by looking at the profile, but we also verify it with a monitoring company.
Tours are available.
I always preferred a straight combustion chamber. I did try it once with a mixture of oxygen and acetylene. Don’t do that. Stick with Aquanet.
February 6, 2017 at 8:40 pm #873271
captainDaveParticipantmark47n: Yeah, the grenade was a WWII war souvenir an elderly woman’s deceased husband had. She just thought it was junk. My neighbor still has a piece of shrapnel from it. Good to know that you guys are checking radiation.

JanSParticipantDave, no facts, so you’re just assuming. Sorry. Take up not being able to share a link with the editor…pull up your big boy pants and tackle it head on instead of whining…otherwise, you got othing. I’m not gonna do your job for you…you made the claim !

J242ParticipantDave: “I spent a couple hours last night researching what was happening in Vene-zuela–smuggled out videos and interviews on the “dark web”. ”
The fact that you quote dark web is in and of itself a stellar example of how little you actually know. Dark sites still cite sources and seeing as you can’t, it’s intellectually offensive to take anything you have to say with even the smallest grain of salt.
Don’t try and get into tech Dave, it’s not your wheelhouse and you are severely outclassed.
February 7, 2017 at 2:50 am #873320
J242ParticipantDave: ” I get so involved in trying to avoid the trigger words that cause my posts to disappear that sometimes I forget to spellcheck. ”
My how you backpedal. Perhaps if you learned how to install a browser based spellcheck you wouldn’t have snafus like this but silly me. You must be too busy going onto the dark web and whatnot.
With each post you make you become a greater parody of the views you so annoyingly support. Go take your boat and sail off to a distant more tax-friendly land Dave. Oh, that’s right. You can’t afford to live in those bastions of personal freedom you want us to emulate. Check out the definition of hypocrisy sometime.
February 7, 2017 at 2:59 am #873321
J242Participant“Sorry, can’t post links. There was a bunch of cell-phone videos on YouTube of the incident if they haven’t been scrubbed by now. ”
Uh huh, Suuuuuuure there were. See, there are these little magical things referred to as “plug-ins” that you can actually install onto your computer (free of charge!) which allow you to record videos. Or, you know, you could always go into your browser’s cache and just move the file to an easier to access directory but who am I kidding? You do not understand how any of this actually works in the first place.
You continue to put up these nonsensical excuses to try and cover the fact that you are speaking out of your lower orifice but guess what? This is my wheelhouse my friend and I’m going to call you on your inane ineptitude because you have been virulently offensive to everyone in the forum. Don’t take my word for it, just look at the threads and if you cannot see how you have added no value to any discussion may your “god” have mercy upon your “soul”. OR, just ask the question! Create a new topic for discussion asking whether or not people find your comments add any value to any area you “contribute” to! I think you might get a rather harsh wake up call. ;)

JoBParticipantCaptain Dave..
you picked the wrong place to be when the the public revolt against alternative truths emerged…February 7, 2017 at 2:08 pm #873369
captainDaveParticipantJ242: I facetiously used the words “Dark Web” to describe the readily available information that many of you refuse to acknowledge because it isn’t sanctioned by the small group of people who shape your political beliefs.
Your moronic assumption that client side browser tools have anything to do with server side data filtering shows that you actually know nothing about the subject. I have been involved in system design for more than thirty years. During that time, I had operated more than 100 websites–most of which I had coded myself. I have spent more of my own money on software and database development than most people will earn in a lifetime. Back before most of you had dialup connections, I had a dedicated T1 line and bank of SGI web servers. My tech experience ranged from the development of voice recognition systems and complex 3D data processing to digital image databases and object recognition systems–for which you can find my name on a number of US patents. I actually do know a little about technology. Judging from your silo-minded arrogance, it is likely that I have forgotten more than you will ever know.
JoB: There is no alternative truth. There is only one truth for which you deny because of the indoctrination you have allowed into your mind. Perhaps you haven’t noticed the counter-revolutionary revolt against the progressive lib-eral agenda last November? Yes, I agree, this area is a horrible place to be due to the lack of intellectual diversity and violent intolerance of dissidents. As the election data showed, Seattle has less intellectual diversity than almost anywhere in the US–second only to Washington D.C. and Detroit. It would be fun to discuss the reason for this but I am sure that subject would be way out of bounds for this forum.
February 7, 2017 at 8:28 pm #873425
JoBParticipantCaptain Dave..
All i can say to you is thank god that when i was a child those guys who had just come back from witnessing the outcome of the policies you promote in Europe had the wisdom to invest in their schools.
I got a solid background in the now archaic skills of sentence diagramming, logic and civics.
I am sorry you missed that.

redblack: your posts #871514, #872011 seem to suggest that you have a propensity for violence. Challenging me to a fight and threatening to knock teeth out are actions of violence.
let’s see. 871514… 871514… hmm… ahh! yes! here it is:
“let’s fight!”
i told you multiple times over multiple threads that calling me marxist and setting up straw man norquist-talking-points arguments are disingenuous and confrontational. you continued. i responded.
i don’t take kindly to bullies, IRL or on the internet, and i don’t back down.
i’m a peaceful, gentle, and introverted person, but i will not be pushed. it’s that simple. calling me violent because i’m not the liberal snowflake you expect me to be is also disingenuous.
now, if you don’t want a fight, then don’t start one.
be intellectually honest.
and, for the record, i offered to knock out virtual teeth, in “cyberspace.” i.e., i’ll take on any honest intellectual debate (or fight) you want to have, and i feel pretty confident in my ability.
i’d like to apologize for your misunderstanding, but that wouldn’t make any sense, now, would it?
February 7, 2017 at 8:48 pm #873428
redblackParticipantand any time you want to stop talking about me or jo or jan and start telling us what you believe or how you would govern – as opposed to tearing down what you’ve heard that liberals believe – well, it can’t come too soon.
February 8, 2017 at 11:28 am #873495
captainDaveParticipantredblack: I debate–not interested in fighting. If you came down to the docks, I would probably convince you to buy one of our delicious fish tacos from our taco boat to quell your anger while demonstrating the wonders of capital-ism.
To answer your question: I believe in the ability for free-market capital-ism and the incentive of private property rights to resolve most of the worlds problems because competition and choice makes strong, equitable, prosperous and happy societies. I oppose most of the common tenants of social-ism because I believe it short-circuits the incentive for people to willingly produce and innovate–resulting in resource scarcity, intellectual stagnation, poverty, wealth concentration and misery.
February 8, 2017 at 2:56 pm #873522
miwsParticipantDave, I just need to step in here since you seem to be of the mindset that redblack is a violent, angry person.
I’ve never met you in person, although at least a couple of my friends here have, having gone on at least one of your cruises a few years back. As I recall, their opinion of you was quite favorable. Although I trust their opinions and judgment, I’m really having a hard time imagining my opinion of you would change upon meeting you at this point.
However, I have met redblack, once, just over four years ago, in being the recipient of his kindness.
His self-description above is 100% spot on. Although friendly, and in no way rude, or stand-offish, I could certainly sense the quietness and introversion.
Even people like that, (and I have been told by other commenters here on the forums over the years, that I have never met in person (or hadn’t at the time they commented), that I come across as a “nice guy”. But, ya know, we all have our limits, and if we get pushed far enough for long enough, we just might get angry, or step outside of our normal “nice zone” far enough, that maybe speaking up a bit, and in a strong tone, could be perceived by some as being angry.

JoBParticipantCaptain Dave..
so youthink we would all be so much better without “socialism”…
Let’s take your taco boat?….
do you personally produce all of the items that are required to make your tacos?
If you do.. you rely on municipal water… aka socialism
if you don’t… you rely on public roads.. aka socialism
if at any point in the process electricity is used to generate the materials for your tacos or to cook the meat you rely on public utilities.. aka socialismi could go on and on because those are just the aspects of “socialism” that you can easily see..
there’s the legal tender that you accept for your product
the education that produced literate customers and/or employees
the medical care that keeps both healthy enough to consume your tacos
the fire department you rely on if a fire starts
the coast guard you rely on if your trouble occurs on the water
the police department you rely on if someone decides to harass you or steal your moneyand.. and.. and…
this myth of a society in which an entrepreneur never depends upon the work of others or the largesse of their society to succeed is just that .. a myth… it’s fairy tale land.
and when push comes to shove.. trust me.. you are glad it is
February 8, 2017 at 4:57 pm #873543
JanSParticipantYes, was just trying to picture the barnyard he has near the boat to produce the meat/chicken, for the tacos, instead of bringing from the market over public roads…the ultimate urban farmer
February 8, 2017 at 7:43 pm #873555
redblackParticipantthank you, mike. you’re awesome, and i hope you’re well.
dave: there you go with the marxism talk again. it’s straw man nonsense.
regulated capitalism is the way to go, with equitable and progressive taxation to take care of americans who can’t take care of themselves.
i often hear that “government should be run like a business.”
if that’s true, what is that business’ purpose? what is the ROI?
February 8, 2017 at 8:50 pm #873564
mark47nParticipantI would argue that the purpose of government is to provide the services that are collectively viewed to be for the public good and should not be profit centers. Roads, primary and secondary education, courts, EMS of all sorts, food and drug safety, clean water, energy and many more than I can list. I also believe that there are more things that should be on that list. These are things/services that the ROI may be intangible or too far down the road. The problem that I think we have now is that the horizon we see, in this country, is not as far as it should be. We are unable, or unwilling, to see generationally or beyond what may only affect us in the first or second order.
As to Marxism; no one here, in the threads that I’ve read, have proposed anything that resembles Marxism. Ever.
February 9, 2017 at 2:36 pm #873651
captainDaveParticipantmiws: I always suspected such. People often have different personalities online when they have anonymous handles. That’s half the fun of the debate.
RedBlack: “i often hear that “government should be run like a business.”
if that’s true, what is that business’ purpose? what is the ROI?”A: Just like any business: To maximize the wealth and prosperity of the shareholders (All US citizens). When taxation and regulation is commensurate with that objective, then it’s all fine by me. Shareholder/citizen value has been diminishing for twenty five years. It’s time we turn that around.
mark47n: Marx-ism theory is the foundational doctrine of modern political social-ism. (excuse the hyphens). There is certainly not a hard line to define it. But basically, when you advocate for expansion of state power on behalf of a collective interest beyond the basic functions of cooperative society, you are advocating for Marx-ist principals. Government housing, government healthcare, welfare, free government controlled education are all Marx-ist concepts–some more palatable in verying degrees than others to conserve-atives.
February 9, 2017 at 4:49 pm #873670
mark47nParticipantThat is a wildly simplistic overstatement of Marxism and I don’t require you to educate me, CD. The hallmark of Marxism is not simply an increase of the size of government. You’re using Marxism as a dog whistle and trying to elicit a knee jerk response. You left out some of the hallmarks such as the idea that the means of production belongs to the state and “from each according to his abilities to each according to their needs”. Who exactly are you trying to mislead?
February 9, 2017 at 5:43 pm #873678
miwsParticipantmiws: I always suspected such. People often have different personalities online when they have anonymous handles. That’s half the fun of the debate.
And I saw absolutely no difference in redblack’s online personality as I knew it up to that point, nor that I have seen online since, in comparison to the personality that I saw that time in person.
And before you try to step in here and put your own definition on what I am saying in this post, the personality I’m talking about is exactly as I described above.

To maximize the wealth and prosperity of the shareholders (All US citizens).
interesting.
i’d say the first order of business is to protect the people from enemies foreign and domestic.
and i think poverty, exploitation, and disease are domestic enemies #1 – 3.
February 9, 2017 at 10:43 pm #873698
JanSParticipantTwo thumbs up, Redblack. I am damned tired of jerks thinking this is gonna make them effing rich…..the stupid, it burns. And….at what cost? And sadder still, they don’t care about who it costs, even if part of their lives, like family. #resist/persist.
