Licensing is but one method by which the state owns production. License costs for nearly everything have substantially increased in the last decade. And lots of new licenses have been created for things that previously didn’t require licensing. In the three years I was involve with the Floating Farmers Market at South Lake Union, our license cost when up 700%. We have seen a 500% increase in mobile food business licensing. If I add up all the permits and fees for everything I do, it’s now a significant percentage of revenue. In many cases over the last decade it has been a frequent reason to cancel business development projects altogether because the government would essentially establish claim to more than 100% of the “means of production”. Now, consider the growing number of government-owned farmers markets, pea patches, community farms, etc. Isn’t that owning the means of production? When the government bailed out GM and the to-big-to-fail banks, wasn’t that owning part of the means for production?
Now lets talk about “from each according to his abilities to each according to their needs”. Isn’t that precisely what our welfare system, obamacare, and Seattle’s new adventures in ramping up homeless services?

Licensing is not akin to ownership.
If the concept of “from each according to his abilities to each according to their needs” was actually in place in the US you would not see people earning multimillion $$$ salaries, you wouldn’t see doctors driving custom BMWs or the like. In actual Marxism/Communism the doctor has the same worth as the janitor who mops the floor but a higher demand is place on them to produce as their ability is higher. If they’re young and healthy their needs are lower so, even though they are required to put out the maximum they will get almost nothing for it. That janitor may have less to contribute but a family and a chronic illness. His needs are higher so, even though the janitor can contribute less, he will receive more. This concept has NEVER been in play in the US. In post Revolution Russia this was the idea, as misguided as it may be, but it’s virtually impossible in practice due to the fact that you still have to have a class with the power see to that distribution.See? The above is a complex concept and not digestible in small bites beyond what you already either cannot or refuse to understand. I recognize that I wasted my time typing it because you’ll twist it and the expository method of writing to mean that, since I’m knowledgeable, I must support it. As to the rest of your licensing/bailout twaddle (which came about under Bush) I’ll not discuss it any further.

JanSParticipantBeing a licensed Healthcare Practitioner, I have no sympathy for you.I buy my licenses every year. I also have to buy millions of dollars of insurance…to cover any injury caused by my treatment, falls on the premises, fire…etc. And I have to do costly Continuing Ed to keep my license. It’s all to protect the consumer. You have no problem with protecting the consumer…right?
So should there also be no rules, regulations on the road, for driving a vehicle? No speed limits, etc? Or do you just want that freedom to do what you want only going to apply to you? How about waste treatment plants? Restaurants? Grocery store? Dentists? Garbage disposal? Cosmetic manufacturers? Where does this “less regulation/more freedom” draw a line? Do you want this “more freedom from regulations” to only apply to certain types of businesses? (like you?) Or should this apply across the board? You want to put limits on how much a city can charge for a license? That would be another rule…affects you positively, them a little negatively? Or should licenses for businesses be simply eliminated, to each his own, go do your thing. What about plumbers? Contracters who are building your house? The manufacturers of the products that house is being built with? Airplane manufacturers. Where will this freedom thing reach it’s limits…when poor workmanship in an airplane kills 300 people? The food you sell poisons and kills someone?
It’s easy for you to complain about these things…but…when does the complaining stop, and you actually start working on fixing the things you think are broken? We all complain, every day, about things that affect us negatively. We write to the companies, the cities, the legislators. Some of us become advocates/activists, putting our money where our mouths are. What about you, Dave? Whats your plan, and what are the answers to above? Or, I’ll ask once more…are you just butthurt because the rules and regulations are affecting YOU, you don’t care about the rest? You are being very , very general when you complain/whine about your business suffering because of what you perceive as a lack of freedom. Time for you to get specific if you’re really, really serious about this…there are a lot of other businesses of many varieties out there(like the humble corner bakery)…which ones do you want to have the same freedoms of unregulation as you?
I’ll wait…I know it’s a long list..

Since the Democratic Party is suddenly the ” Party of Science ” I am curious how Mr. redsmack can explain how this tiny group of Peaceful Rioters can be in 100 places at the same time ? and also how they are able to change their appearance , numbers, weapons , masks beating techniques, ..etc. to fit each situation ? Now That is some serious Science ?
Basically, What is obvious to anyone with half a brain is that this Peaceful Rioting by the Left is actually become the main stream and it became even MORE obvious to everyone after that Anti-Trump Riot masquerading as a ” Peaceful ” Women’s march where the always elegant Liberal hero Madonna revealed to everyone that she ” has thought many times about blowing up the White House ” . The too numerous to count Death Threat signs & chants and of course the ceremonial burning of the Limousine and that we found out later was owned by a Muslim man. Oop’s.. maybe another ISIS recruiting tool moment ?
I am just wondering why that Tiny group of ” Agitators ” never seemed to make an appearance at any of the Multitudes of Conservative Riots that happened daily when OBama was Lying his way around the White House ? They never seemed to quite make it ? Of course the Conservatives never quite made it to the Conservative Riots either because THERE WEREN’T ANY ! It was a nice try though.
Oh and yes Mr. redquack I would be flattered to receive your very skillfully Installed ” Ridicule & Scorn ” whenever I easily compare the Lunatic Liberal Left’s Ideology to Venezuela or Greece or the Soviet Union. It reminded me of the BIG LIE that was told by the right wing after the crash of 2007: It was caused by the liberal regulations that required banks to loan money to poor people. And those greedy poor people borrowed all that money and crashed the system. This propaganda was sent out everywhere. But there was no such regulation and bankers were not holding their noses while giving loans. They were active participants because Wall Street would buy their paper. They had to only produce a mortgage, a good one or not, and Wall Street bundled it with others and called is an asset-backed security. That is what crashed the system. It wasn’t mean ol’ regulations, it was the LACK of regulations.
So, if not russet potatoes, then what? PCC had small potatoes called Amoroso that baked into the most delicious, fluffy on the inside, crispy skin on the outside, that I’d ever had.

Just this morning, Knute Berger an activist writer for Crosscut, suggested that Antifa visit the downtown Nordstrom rack store. Does it not concern you that the media is encouraging destruction in your community? What if it is your place of work or play that is targeted next? Will you be ok with the violence then?

mark47nParticipantI generally prefer to use Yukon Golds for most of my potato dishes but Reds are great, too. If you want baked potatoes, though, nothing beats a Russet or a yam, not necessarily a potato but still pretty awesome. I prefer sweet potatoes in pie and as fries. they’re not my favorite baked.

If I broadcasted a “funny suggestion” to have antifa visit your home because you were having a capi-talist tea party–then a bunch of black-clad hoodlums smashed out your front windows and lit your car on fire. Would you still be laughing at my joke?
What if Rush Limbaugh or some other conservative talking head suggested blowing out the windows of local welfare offices? Do you think that is just funny harmless satire? Of course not. He would be arrested for inciting violence.
It is totally irresponsible for anyone in media to be suggesting, inferring or alluding to violence as a solution to social discourse. But you are ok with it because people on the right have been dehumanized to the degree that violence is permissible because they are all just evil na-zis, right?

mark47nParticipantWilly, you argue like a jr. HS debate student and throwing around quotes is a dangerous game, especially when those quotes are taken out of context. Generally I prefer to use data to support my arguments and opinions supplemented by my personal experience. My knee jerk reactions are usually pitched in the garbage because they are often the wrong thing to do/say. Clearly this is not a sentiment that you adhere to.
