Rrrruff! My name is Rigby and some bad humans left me behind. The neighbors rescued me and called Pamela. She took me in (I hear she rescues cats but likes dogs an awrufful lot too). Now I’m hanging with her 3 big dogs and some cats. We’re getting along. I was abused and locked in a crate all the time, which got messy. I am practicing my potty training though and looking for a forever home. Are you looking for a Rigby?

Rigby is about 3 months old. He is an Aussie mix puppy, his eyes have brown and blue in both eyes, is mostly reddish color, with some darker red patches and white paws. Since he was crated all the time, we are having to rework his potty habits. Rigby does not seem to have any food issues, but we are watching that closely of course. He is still a little nervous when people are standing over him, but he is becoming more secure – he wags his tail! I think we got him just in time, before any more damage was done. So in way, I am glad they left him behind, and that the neighbors rescued him :)

I will be keeping him for about 2 weeks, to make sure all is well, he has a bit of cold right now. If you would like to meet him you can! Just shoot me an email feraltrapping@gmail.com. He still needs to be neutered, but has his 1st vaccine and got dewormed and Advantage (fleas).

PS. DP is going to post pictures as I do not know how to do it:) thx DP!

what a cutie ! Thanks for helping him, Pamela. Why do people even get puppies if they’re just going to abuse and abandon? People are ignorant idiots at times, huh.

Hope he finds his forever home soon :)

I am one of the neighbors who rescued Rigby and his story is indeed a sad one and I hope someone in WS will give this little guy the loving home he deserves. The family had two dogs, Rigby and an English bull terrier that was probably a few years old. We had not seen either dog for quite some time but frequently heard them barking for hours inside the house. Last week I saw the terrier chained outside and he was a walking skeleton, every bone in his body visible. He looked so horrible I almost vomited; it is a sight I will never forget and I hope I never see again. I immediately called Animal Control and he was removed from the home the next day and taken to a vet. I do not know his status but am hoping he will be able to recover. I had assumed Animal Control had taken the puppy but obviously they didn’t. The family moved out on Sunday morning. That afternoon another neighbor saw Rigby frantically scratching at the door trying to get inside his home. He was very frightened and cold. We never saw him outside and I don’t think he had been outside since the week they brought him home this fall so I’m sure he was terrified. I immediately realized he had been abandoned and called Pamela who agreed to take him in and find his forever home. He is a sweet guy and although he was very frightened and initially cowered when we tried to pet him, he calmed down and within an hour was wagging his tail. I and my neighbors saw the children hitting the older dog and I am sure Rigby was treated the same way (like an object rather than a living being). Even with this history I could tell Rigby was not permanently damaged and never once growled or snapped at anyone, even when he was very frightened. He is ready to trust and love a new family. I am very angry at these people who treated these poor dogs so horribly and am glad they are out of our neighborhood and I do believe that Rigby was probably saved from a terrible life. I do wish there was some way I could guarantee this family can never own another animal but I know that isn’t possible. After such a bad beginning I really hope someone will give Rigby’s story a happy ending. Is it you?

Oh what a little dollface!! He does look frightened, but that’s fixable at this young age. Pamela, THANK YOU for everything you do for the animals in our community. You are an amazing woman. And Bertha, thank you for taking action where so many would just post a rant about the neighbor and be done.

Oh…what a sweet, sweet boy! If I didn’t already have a full house with 3 dog children and 2 human children, I would willingly take this dog! I am a sucker for heartwrenching stories like this. Pamela…thank you for all you do. Really. And Bertha…you rock! Angels among us you all are!

    Pamela and bertha,

Bless your hearts for helping get the little guy to safety and caring for him.

If you have any kind of poster with his pic and profile (8 1/2 x 11 is great), I would be happy to post it at Westcrest.

There are so many wonderful folks at Westcrest that would pass the word along about little Rigby, know the breed and activity level needed for a pup like this, etc. A good resource to reach many folks that might not follow WSB forum.

Also, is he posted on Animal Rescue Network?

If you’d like to get him out on a new adventure to help him get used to new situations, you are welcome to bring him by to be in a new dog-friendly place or get a dogsitting break for a few hours (weekends primarily; possibly late afternoon/evening during the week). He can hang out with my herders. My older b.c. has fostered many a puppy/senior and everything in between. My younger b.c. follows his lead.

Can’t take a foster at this point or add to the pack, but you are welcome to contact me for the above.

Best wishes for Rigby to find his forever home soon,

    S

ah – I want a pup and a kitty so much. Just have a postage size house and no fenced yard, yet. My 5 year old requested a pink dog. Told her if she could find one, it’s hers. That will buy us some time. (Of course telling her, dyed ones don’t count) Wish we could take in a sweetie.

smy I am not allowed on the animal rescue network LOL don’t ask.

IF I am reading your post correctly you have offered some free play time? great especially with other herding dogs remember he is a mix.

Since he was abused, and crated ALL the time, potty training is going a little slow, and food aggression. I have NO problem be honest about this. I am very proactive on making this NOT an issue, again this is one other reason he is staying with me for a couple of weeks. He is digging on the cats.

He is afraid of tall men, but my brother as made him feel very comfortable.

Thanks for everyone support. He is coming around nicely.

smy, I am not seeing your email, but please email me at feraltrapping@gmail.com. I do want to put him in different situations:) Thanks for the offer and I won’t abuse it.

    Pamela,

Sounds good. Thanks for your honesty with the little guy.

Good to hear he’s getting some cat-savvy to add to his puppy-resume. It helps his adoption possibilities spread further to find his new family.

If you don’t have a flier out there for Rigby, are you able to make one or is there a need not to due to how he came in to you?

If not, is anyone out there on WSB able to put one together for Rigby? I would like to send this off to some folks in rescue and also be able to post it. 8 1/2 x 11 would be great.

Pamela, just emailed you. Let me know if it doesn’t make its way to you.

Rigby is doing great and is such a lovebug! What a relief it must be for him to be out of his former situation. Anyone would be lucky to have a Rigby in the family!

    Have to agree with justcuz.

I spent a little time with him this weekend for a puppy playdate, and he is absolutely wonderful. A sweet pup that is very smart, the most wonderful mix of spirited yet will happily liquefy into your lap when he’s tuckered out (with a big puppy-sigh of contentment!), and one to fall for head over heels.

Beware, he will steal your heart!
