retired60ParticipantWe need so much done in this country to move the ball forward, and we spend too much time throwing rocks at each other and following those we elect to office .. that only want us to fail. These politicians want us to listen to what they’re saying but not watch their hands as they take our future away. Republicans will not lift a hand to do anything for Americans… and we should see them for what they are … OUR ENEMY
January 29, 2014 at 8:11 pm #803821
clark5080ParticipantI think that D’s and R’s are the problem and we really need term limits in both the house and senate
January 29, 2014 at 8:23 pm #803822
skeeterParticipantI sort of agree. I think Republicans are about half the problem.
January 29, 2014 at 8:34 pm #803823
retired60ParticipantRepublicans don’t support minimum wage increases, pensions, unemployment benefits, Social Security, Medicare, Medicade, Job growth, infrastructure maintenance, Global warning. Any Gov. Program that doesn’t pay their income / benefits.
January 29, 2014 at 8:42 pm #803824
retired60ParticipantWe can find excuses to continue making the same mistakes .. over and over. Voting for the Repub. party that does very little for the middleclass $50,000 to $200,000 family income. Those at the higher income of the middleclass don’t realize how less these politicians really care about them .. until they loose their jobs or a family member gets ill … maybe the bread winner. When we finally pool our energy and votes to send a serious message to them that what they are doing is wrong .. we will continue to suffer and it will only get worse for us and our children. It’s already at a critical point for most of us. Not enough for Retirement .. Repubs did away with pensions and Unions which was the death nail to Good jobs, benefits and Good pay… for Union workers first .. then the private sector. They knew what they were doing .. we didn’t .. still don’t.
January 29, 2014 at 8:51 pm #803825
dhgParticipantYou’re preaching to the choir. So often there are “urgent” emails sent to me asking for immediate action….. Tell your representatives….. but we’ve done our part. We have two Democratic senators and we have McDermot, one of the most liberal reps in Congress. We’ve done our part. The South is dragging us down.
January 29, 2014 at 8:57 pm #803826
retired60ParticipantWe say that Dems and Repubs ARE both the problem.
When you look at what each party says and actually votes for …you see the truth. Repubs continuously vote against the middleclass and their wellbeing … Most of us will never be Millionaires ..but the Repubs make us think that we are or will be .. so that we’ll support their rich man philosophies. When a person or group says one thing .. then does something totally diff. … what are you suppose to think ?? They will change ??? they made a mistake ?? No .. you were fooled .. tricked ..used. They will continue do this because, they know that most people are creatures of habit, and that you are conditioned to make the same mistake again and again. As they profit from our ignorance. and our down-fall.
January 29, 2014 at 9:05 pm #803827
retired60ParticipantWe are giving President Obama the worst grades for running this country .. when Repubs. refuse to work with him at any cost. What we don’t realize is that Repubs are refusing to work with and for US. everything Obama HAS TRIED TO DO WAS TO BENEFIT US. To make our lives a little bit better. And compare this to what the Congress and Repubs. are doing. NOTHING but getting in the way of our future and our childrens future.
January 29, 2014 at 9:09 pm #803828
retired60ParticipantIf Repub. supporters will just give some facts about how the Congress and Repubs are helping this country and the middleclass .. I would appreciate it. I see nothing …… Not one thing. So why do they deserve any support for harming out future.
January 29, 2014 at 9:11 pm #803829
wakefloodParticipantNever pay attention to what a politician says and always what they DO.
Or don’t do, as is currently the case…
That goes for both parties.
Which actually begs a question that popped into my head again today:
If less than 25% of the voters self identify as R’s and around 35% identify as D’s and 42% say Independent, why do we only have 2, that’s TWO Independents out of 535 in Congress???
Might want to ponder that for a bit when you think about how to break the logjam that is our government.
January 29, 2014 at 9:14 pm #803830
wakefloodParticipantWhich is to say, anytime someone says that multi-party coalition governments are recipe’s for doing nothing, well, you can show them the last 8yrs. of this country’s parliament and ask them why that argument applies?
January 29, 2014 at 9:23 pm #803831
retired60ParticipantIf every voter would take out a sheet of paper Put Repubs. on the upper right corner and Dems on the left corner… and write what each party is doing for this country and the middleclass. We would see a stark diff in who cares the most about US our children and this great country. The problem is not 50/50 as mostly Repubs. want us to think. It’s more like 90/10 where Repubs are totally against this countries success which should involve all Americans.
January 29, 2014 at 9:28 pm #803832
wakefloodParticipantThe R’s could/should just change their name to Corpricans. You know, truth in advertising. They are a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Industrial Complexes anyway.
January 29, 2014 at 9:34 pm #803833
retired60ParticipantThis is a two party system … Repubs. and Demos. Each party is expected to have diff ideas about solving this countries problems. Solving our problems is the key to success or moving in the right direction. When one party (Repubs.) says we want this President to fail before he even takes office. We will not work with him on anything. He has to look like a failure in the eyes of the world, then We as a people are pushed to the rear of all that is important. To the selfishness of a party that is only thinking about themselves and their future, NOT OURS
January 29, 2014 at 9:37 pm #803834
dobroParticipantWe already have term limits. They’re called “elections”. They occur at regular intervals. Feel free to participate.
January 29, 2014 at 9:40 pm #803835
wakefloodParticipantAnd to be clear, Corporations in this country have had EVERYTHING they’ve wanted over the last decade or two. Most/all of these notes below were driven hard by Corporate lobbies.
Reduced regulations or defanged regulatory agencies. (Dare me to elucidate on that one??)
Major downward pressure on wages/hiring and continued reduction of union participation
Reduced competition and enhanced pricing flexibility provided by encouraged consolidation and limited anti-monopoly enforcement
No tax repatriation required. Most large companies don’t pay taxes and are proud to sit it out and wait for another tax repatriation holiday.
THE ONLY and mean literally ONLY reason these companies aren’t even more flush with cash and buying up anything they can get their hands on is LOW DEMAND. Americans are tapped out. And it’s not getting better anytime soon. Like a kid in a candy store, they’ve eaten themselves to the point of sickness and the candy’s gone. Now what??
January 29, 2014 at 9:40 pm #803836
skeeterParticipantWell I think we’re all in agreement that Republicans are the problem. So how do we convince people in the South to stop voting for them?
January 29, 2014 at 9:45 pm #803837
wakefloodParticipantDobro, I hear you. But you have to admit, the GOP has been working to make that part of the puzzle tilted in their favor too.
Disqualifying voters, etc. But the biggest is gerrymandering. They could literally win majorities with 10% of the public support.
I’d love to see a national referendum on gerrymandering. You take that away, overturn Citizen’s United, and have instant runoffs and you actually get some fresh blood who might not be beholden to the status quo.
January 29, 2014 at 9:45 pm #803838
retired60ParticipantINDEPENDANTS ?????? To me … they are only Repubs. that refuse to be seen as a Repub. But usually vote with the Republican party. When you relate to a party that embarrasses you or makes you look as if you don’t care about the less fortunate, or you still want mostly the Repub. and maybe some Demo. votes … you become a Independent.
January 29, 2014 at 9:55 pm #803839
retired60ParticipantI think things are changing in the South. With the Affordable Care Act, BEING DENIED, And Repubs. not giving teachers the choice to Opt into Social Security benefits. Not wanting to increase the minimum wage. etc. We just need to get out the vote .. and stop listening to the lies that Repubs. keep telling us and doing just the opposite. They do not care about our future
January 29, 2014 at 10:22 pm #803840
wakefloodParticipantI’d say that’s a significant part of it, retired60 but keep in mind that only 35% ID as D’s. That’s at least 15% of that 42%. And while a chunk of those I’s are Tea Partiers/Libertarians, there’s also folks on the far left who think the D’s have sold out and self-identify as I’s too.
January 29, 2014 at 10:37 pm #803841
skeeterParticipantMy prediction is next year D’s will control the Executive office (of course) and the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House. So to a certain extent, at least, that logjam is gonna break up.
January 29, 2014 at 11:36 pm #803842
retired60ParticipantFingers crossed on that one skeeter
January 29, 2014 at 11:46 pm #803843
retired60Participantwakeflood … Demos that call themselves Independent, are scared for their jobs and don’t want to be seen as Demos. because of relationships
with friends / associates that might be able to help them climb that ladder of success. Most Dems. don’t have that cut throat mentallity .. which many Repubs have. Poor and middleclass Repubs are willing to give up everything to prove a point .. like we hate this Black President and don’t care how much he is trying to help me and my family. We just want him to look and feel bad about his Presidency
