I am new to the blog, and fairly new to West Seattle. Any recommendations on places to eat, new vet, and new dentist. I have already been to West 5 (which I LOVED), Easy Street Records, Jak’s, and the Matador. My favorite coffee place is Cafe Ladro which I live by.

Any places that are hidden that people could tell me are good??

Welcome to West Seattle! There have been numerous threads on vet recommendations, but my personal recommendation is Lien Animal Clinic – http://www.lienanimal.com .

For restaurants, my new favorite place is Fresh Bistro – http://www.freshbistroseattle.com . We also enjoy Royal India which is right across the street from the Admiral Theatre on California and Kamei (japanese) which is in the Alaska Junction (next door to Lee’s Asian, which is also very good.

If you do a search there are also a lot of previous threads on dentists in West Seattle. Mine isn’t in WS, otherwise I’d recommend.

For a dentist – I live near you and go to Dr. Christine Kirchner at 6451 Fauntleroy (North across Fauntleroy from Thriftway, next to Blockbuster.) She’s thorough and will explain any problems well. The hygienists are friendly and smart – not the ditzy blabbermouth types other dentists seem to have. Great receptionist and office atmosphere as well. I’ve never been kept waiting more than two minutes, either.

Restaurants that haven’t been mentioned: Matador has a great happy hour, and Elliott Bay Brewing is consistently good burgers, sandwiches, salads, and beer. Cafe Revo, down on Avalon, is delicious Italian food. Near where you live, I never get tired of Kokoras Greek Grill. Try their calamari.

My favorite restaurant is Ephesus, on California south of Rite Aid. Yummy kebabs. Get the ezme appetizer, it’s good enough to eat with a spoon. My husband threw me a surprise birthday dinner there last week. :)

Seconded Shoofly Pie, their key lime pies are the real deal.

To search past recommendation discussions, the best thing to do is to use the search box at upper right with whatever keyword you need (like dentist) and add the word forum – that way you will get the results from this section, though it’s always fine to reopen the topics and see what people are recommending now – new people have joined the discussion, new businesses have joined the community, etc. Welcome!

I like the Chelan Cafe under the bridge for breakfast and on Thursdays evenings they have prime rib dinner.

I like Budda Rushka for Thai they are just off Fauntleroy at Genesee St.

    I like C&P Coffee

I like Coffee to a Tea in the junction for cupcakes

and original bakery for donuts and if you need a special cake.

    Cafe Rozella.. http://www.caferozella.com/

it’s so much more than coffee…

Epheaus .. datamuse is right.. the ezme keeps me coming back… the kabobs are incredible.. the space is welcoming and the service is excellent.

Kokorus Greek Grill… I’m with Sarahscoot.. i never tire of their menu.. but almost always order their specials…

lately i have fallen back in love with Duke’s on Alki… register at the their website for coupons…

And i nearly forgot the phoenecia… fresh local ingredients transformed into the best the middle east has to offer.

    Welcome!

    Not hidden:

    Bakery Nouveau is a must.

Elliott Bay Brewery is a wonderful neighborhood eatery, with the welcoming feel of an English pub. Great place to enjoy a brew and a hearty meal.

West Seattle Nursery has a great plant selection, and they deliver free within West Seattle!

    More obscure:

I love La Fondita, the taco truck in White Center off 16th. The atmosphere may be lacking, but the steak burritos are fab.

Bird on a Wire Espresso, across from the SW library on 35th. Great little place to drink good coffee, have lively conversations, and meet interesting people. Comfortable even for total introverts.

If you want “hidden” go to White Center. More than a few good places there including Cafe 88 (Vietnamese), Pho 99, Salvadorean Bakery (more than just baked goods), and El Paisano.

Less-than-hidden places in West Seattle I like are Lee’s Asian (never had a bad meal there), Sunfish (the best fish and chips), Pegasus (pizza sit down), Pagliacci (pizza delivery), and Luna Park for breakfast.
