Oh, not as bad as all that, Jan. True, the guy puts Obama in the same context as Hitler, vis-a-vis the Church. But did you notice who else he tossed into that basket?

    ► The Roman Empire

    ► The Barbarians

    ► Bismarck

    ► Clemenceau

    ► Stalin

    and even . . . AND EVEN . . . [shudder]

    ► The Illinois state government!!

Not very rational thinking, if you ask me. Certainly not appropriate words for a Bishop to be uttering in public.

But not quite the same thing as equating Obama with Hitler.

    ***************************************************************************************

BTY: In his haste to draw analogies, the good Bishop Jenky seems to have overlooked the TRUE FACT that his current boss, Pope Benedict XVI (nee Cardinal R-r-r-ratzinger), was an ACTUAL member of the HITLER YOUTH and assisted the NAZI WAR EFFORT against the Allies — as a child soldier.

What does that prove? Not much, really. But it does give a curious little twist to the Bishop’s bushy beard, dontcha think?

I think all of that is why I made the title…Oh, Good Grief !. It all makes one shake one’s head…and utter…WTF?

Do ya wonder what – or who – he’s hiding in there? lol..

Oh, and then too, there was that unpleasantness about the Church er . . . killing . . . a few people during the Middle Ages.

Trust me: it was all a misunderstanding. Totally blown out of proportion. Anyway, that was so long ago it doesn’t even count.

The thing to remember here is that ever since Calgary the Church has been the target of a sustained and vicious campaign of secular persecution.

    (Poor Church.)

Hitler and Stalin, at their better moments, would just barely tolerate some churches remaining open, but would not tolerate any competition with the state in education, social services, and health care.

    I can see that.

    True, true.

Even under Obama a few churches, like Mars Hill, still cling tenuously to existence.

However, parochial schools have all been shuttered in the face of totalitarian secularism, while church-run hospitals and social services (Providence Hospital, Mt. St Vincents, Lutheran Compass Center, Salvation Army, Union Gospel) have been shut down outright.

We’re nearing the End Times, my children.

ahhh.. the great persecution myth arises again

just in time to justify persecution

funny how that works.. isn’t it.

DPB.. the middle ages? Beats Bush did it. Of courss in the history of humankind the state is blameless of any human suffering right? The massacres of Alexander, The Roman Empire, Josef Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Idi Amin…. the list is endless. But he did not compare Obama to Hitler… he pointed out the trend to walk a path of state absolutism… which, in the main, is what the man believes.

    kootch…

doesn’t it embarrass when people say things as stupid as that to support your cause …

even if they are Catholic Bishops?

it sure embarrasses me that a man who professes to be a Christian and holds a position of authority in the church makes statements like that one.

That’s the kind of thing that gives Christians a bad name :(

No it doesn’t embarrass me, I didn’t say it. People say all kinds of things, that I wouldn;t say in the same way. Interpretation is in the eye of the beholder. I say, ti’s dramatized warning.. heed the power of the state. Pulling these folks up for reference is dramatic. But true. It’s cautionary tale. Others I am sure as is obvious … found another way to find a demon in it. Jeffrey Dahlmer was a public school attendee or Ted Bundy went to UW…. see? DPB? … being in the Hitler Youth was as common as any other universal association in Germany at the time. You merely amplify the point…. and make it worthy of contemplation…. beware the state.. particularly when it substitutes cultural institutes, like Campfire Girls, Boy Scouts,….

    kootch..

i am sure you will make this just another Bush did it moment…

but for pure erosion of personal rights in these United States..

it will be a long time before any Presidential record equals that of George W…

i have never seen a president give up the presidential prerogatives earned by the previous president..

    and Obama is no exception..

and for that he needs to be held accountable…

but sometimes you really do need to look to the source.

oh.. you are talking about those church/state talking points manufactured by Right Wing Republicans trying to distract from their assault on the availability of birth control .. aren’t you?

    Sorry…

    return to your regular programing

we will forget that i tried to interject reason here.

Is there an availability problem with birth control? No. You are manufacturing a crisis that doesn’t exist. Simple as that.

I no longer hold Dubya accountable cause’ guess what? He’s not the president anymore. They had this elaborate ceremony in January of 2009… Obama raised his right hand and swore all manner of things…. most of which he is trying to circumvent… but saying Bush’s sins in your eyes are more grievous than Obama’s… that is the core of your support for Obama… he is less worse than his predecessor? What a ringing endorsement! But ya know… i sorta sympathize… that’s about the best you could say about him.

then don’t hold Bill Clinton accountable for anything…he’s not the president now, either..

and wait until we have the next Repub president…will he be responsible for what Obama does or doesn’t do?

I don’t. You can of course show me an accurate cause and effect all the way back to …. George himself. I am holding the current occupier of the oval office accountable for this presidency… which is the referendum before us this year. I am not holding Obama accountable for the 8.9 trillion over the 8 years of Bush… I am for the 5.5 trillion the last three and one half. At least congress has met their national duty and submitted a budget… Obama and the Senate won’t…. wonder why? They don’t want to do what has to be done…. and the Buffet Rule won’t cover the bets… and they know it. Here’s a hinto for ya… as of today… we are borrowing 1/2 of every Medicare dollar we are spending… how long do you think 8 billion in Buffett dollars will cover a 480 billion dollar shortfall? …. see the problem?

    kootch…

so that little bump in our national financial security had nothing to do with the current deficit?

or the war bill that wasn’t accounted for until this president added it to the ledger?

i will admit that Enron cooked their books using a similar strategy

but they went out of business :(

is it a good idea to bring in responsible accounting

and then put the managers who cooked the books in the first place back in charge?

    probably not
