jeanieMemberSo, West Seattle neighbors, which TV service is the least of the evils? I see that DirecTV is in trouble with the Attorney General. Any non-sleazy, reasonably priced, reliable providers? I don’t need 4,000 channels, either!

rockhillsMemberI’ve been happy with my antenna reception, but I am also interested to hear feedback on area providers because I am NOT thrilled with Comcast’s internet rates vs. service.

GoGoParticipantWell I was going to say DirecTV because we have been with them for years now (with a brief stop at Comcast, yuck) and while they do have their problems they have been far and away the best service we have had. My husband always manages to get some kind of extra service out of them when he talks to them. :)

m3bodyworksMember@Jeanie – We have been with Direct TV / Tivo for the longest time (13 years) – I think it was Primestar before direct tv bought them.
We have now cancelled Direct TV and use the Internet. Most of the broadcast stations are streaming their shows for free and you can usually catch up to two – five episodes before they are removed.
My Favorite is hulu.com which has movies and many TV Shows on it.
Netflix now has “Watch Instantly” as well.
My all time favorite is southparksudios.com which is about 2 weeks behind due to contractual agreements, so you have to wait to get the current episode free.
All our TV’s are now hooked up to Computers and the Internet and we are no longer paying for the major corporation’s fees.
And if you haven’t noticed, most of the popular TV shows are releasing the season in DVD soon after the season ends. So why watch commercials anymore? I certainly don’t watch as many or have to fast forward with Hulu.com or Netflix.

sunshineParticipantWe have had the dish with Direct TV for 18 months and only once experienced an outage for a few hrs.
I LOVE the DVR – watch what I want when I want, and can always zip through ads. And the football package is great.

i am interested in the idea of “hooking” the tvs to the internet.. how did you do that?
we currently have DISH and love the DVR and the reception and the service… but i wouldn’t mind losing another monthly bill.
trouble is that my satellite internet connection isn’t as reliable as my DISH:(
can you download content to watch later? How much trouble would that be?

TrisketParticipantI had the Dish but it was hard to keep clean so I switched to Comcast. I’m glad I did because I really like the cute Comcast commercials.

Not to sound like a Techie – since I’m X-Tech. You need to think of your TV has a Huge Computer Monitor for your laptop or desktop.
check the back of your computer and your TV to see if it has the Monitor (VGA or S-Video) hook up. If both have the same, you’re good to go. Just hook up the computer to your TV. Add the Internet and now you are ready to run your computer through your TV. Most TV’s have the input to Monitor or AUX depending on the type of TV.
If you don’t have the right hook ups on your computer, you can purchase a new video card at any local computer store and make sure it has the S-Video connection which is the better of the two. (there is HDMI as well – Ask the Clerk)
If your TV doesn’t have either, then unfortunately, you need to purchase a new TV, or check Radio Shack to see if they have a gadget to accomodate your needs.
Hope this helps. I think the Geek Squad will help you hook everything up or check with the local computer shops.
