dobroParticipantI have a serious question that I’m curious about that I believe could be discussed without a bunch of BS about racism,Obamacare,Fast & Furious blah blah derailing it. Shall we try?
Two big stories have come out in the last few days in the WA Post and Boston Globe making serious allegations about Romney that he tried to get them to retract and both refused. It’s pretty clear that Repubs haven’t closed ranks around him yet because he’s still pandering to the base and not able to move to the center to pick up more indie voters. Some Republicans are openly questioning the wisdom of his secretive campaign.
Do you think he might be politically tarnished enough, assuming the attacks from the Obama campaign and investigative reporting continue in the vein they have, that Repubs might replace him as the candidate? I saw that Ron Paul, if he wins the Nebraska caucuses this week, will hold delegates from 5 states, forcing him to be allowed to speak and possibly have his name entered at the convention.
Do any of the R members here have a thought on this? Do you think it could happen? If it did, who could be a viable replacement? I’m genuinely curious. What do you think?

kootchmanMemberNo. we have our candidate. I mean.. it’s hard to accuse him of offshoring jobs.. when Obama gave out 29 billion to foreign companies… and then we find out the head of the DNC, Pelosi, any many many more all have offshore accounts. It’s mud slinging time.. that’s what the 3 billion is for. we can take Obama down with Romney. The question really is how much support is there for Barry ? Not much. Your biggest prayer should be that Romney is as good for our country as he was for Bain investors. Ron Paul should speak… he appeals to the independents .. more so than Obama ever will. and his core is avid.. It appears we have the Senate.. I suspect you will see a floater that hw will be in the cabinet… HHS Secretary? Perfect. Dream on dude, Romney is the nominee. I just watched John Sununnu tear apart Andrea Mitchell … when she tried to trot out the new, new line of attack. She was decimated, literally had to “sign off”… it was hysterical. We have a deep bench.

jamminjMember” Obama gave out 29 billion to foreign companies”
looks like you got the same memo from Americans For Prosperity that sununnu was spouting from.

kootchmanMemberFisker Motors, Hyundai, Philips Electronics… that I know of…. oh yea… 2 billion to Brazil to develop their oil fields while he torpedoes Keystone… I didn’t need to watch the humiliation handed to Andrea Mitchell… I’ve been keeping abreast of his profligate spending overseas long before Big John came out with the actual numbers. No one is disputing them.

redblackParticipantfunny, isn’t it? republicans can’t talk about willard for 5 seconds without launching into screeds about obama.
as good for america as he was for bain capital, huh? the problem is that running a country is unlike running a business. there’s no similarity. so stating that running a company whose sole motive is to maximize profits is a pretty thin argument for electing willard.
oh, that’s right! he was a governor in one of the bluest states in america. want to talk about that record?
my bet – and hope – is that there is a brokered convention, and that ron paul fractures the party so badly that it won’t be able to function for the next 50 years. in my opinion, the tea party is just dumb and crazy enough to do it and then crow about their victory while obama waltzes into a second term.
btw, sununu is an a-hole. that is one angry, mean-spirited, and cantankerous old bastard. if that’s your bench, and you think that blatantly lying and yelling down reporters is good game, you have some serious delusions.
July 13, 2012 at 1:28 pm #763609
SmittyParticipantIt “could” happen, but won’t. I thought WaPo retracted the offshore claims – if that is what you are referring to?
My guess is that he names Condi his VP soon (Drudge is about 50/50, but this one feels legit). She would be a legitimate “game changer” who would not be skewered by the media. We would head into the convention with about a 5 point lead in the polls.
July 13, 2012 at 2:15 pm #763610
JoBParticipantredblack..
i think this convention has the opportunity to be interesting, but in the end there is far too much money in play for Romney for those who worship money to turn it down.
July 13, 2012 at 2:17 pm #763611
JoBParticipantkootch…
mean and nasty is not the ideal
shouting down your opposition is not the ideal
walking away from that kind of harassment doesn’t prove your opposition’s point
it proves you have standards
it’s way past time that we stopped elevating bullying in our public discourse
July 13, 2012 at 2:54 pm #763612
dobroParticipantNo, neither the WA Post nor the Boston Globe retracted any of their reporting.
I’d love to see Condi named VP choice. I want to see some reruns of her testimony at the 9/11 commision! Especially that part where they ask her the title of the memo that she and GWB ignored.
July 13, 2012 at 3:06 pm #763613
TanDLParticipantI’m with you dobro. Selecting Condi would not automatically pull in women or black community voters, if that’s what the Repubs are thinking. Too many watched those 9/11 hearings.
July 13, 2012 at 3:17 pm #763614
JoBParticipantSmitty..
his offshore claims are getting stickier
did he lie to the American Public or the SEC about how long he was at the helm at Bain?
oh well.. at least he didn’t lie about sex
That’s unacceptable ;->
July 13, 2012 at 3:18 pm #763615
JoBParticipantTanDL
condi would be an interesting add to this campaign…
the 911 hearings aren’t all that would have to be whitewashed
July 13, 2012 at 3:45 pm #763616
SmittyParticipantFixed.
“oh well.. at least he didn’t lie about sex……under oath, in a court of law during a sexual harassment case……That’s unacceptable ;->”
July 13, 2012 at 3:45 pm #763617
TanDLParticipant:) Let the games begin…
July 13, 2012 at 3:47 pm #763618
SmittyParticipant“the 911 hearings aren’t all that would have to be whitewashed”
Careful! Republicans would be skewered if that used that language about Obama……….
July 13, 2012 at 9:07 pm #763619
JanSParticipantcondi?
the latest…
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/condoleezza-rice-stands-vp-prospects-no-way-181823611.html
protesting too much?
July 13, 2012 at 10:15 pm #763620
dobroParticipantBack to the original idea of the post…if Romney were to withdraw or be replaced (this is a hypothetical question, I know) who would be the substitute candidate? I think it would have to be a governor, maybe Haley Barbour or Scott Walker. I can’t imagine it being Sarah Palin but the teapartiers would certainly love that. What’cha think?
July 13, 2012 at 10:23 pm #763621
kootchmanMemberwon’t happen. That’s as hypothetical as… “what would you do if Obama balanced a budget”? …. some things are just not plausible to speculate. but I’ll play… If it had to be a governor… Jindal or Big Jersey… now if we find the Kenyan birth certificate? Hilary? lol…
July 13, 2012 at 11:18 pm #763622
megMemberI wish it could be Paul. :-) But, business-as-usual seriously does not like him. Paul does Way too much of his own thinking and so he’s not all scaredy-cat about sacred cows being slaughtered.
Business-as-Usual likes Mitt (& Barry) much better.
July 14, 2012 at 12:34 am #763623
SmittyParticipantProbably Santorum, and he would get smoked.
July 14, 2012 at 12:50 am #763624
JanSParticipantwhat a slap in the face to the primary system that would be….
July 14, 2012 at 1:22 am #763625
metrognomeParticipantI don’t know that this is a hypothetical question; Willard isn’t widely accepted yet by the GOP base, so if someone loosens his apparent stranglehold, it could get interesting. Besides, once Willard finds out he can’t erase the federal e-mail servers and have his staff buy their hard drives, like they did when he left the gov’s mansion, he may turn down the nomination. If he is elected by some remote chance, he’ll make Tricky Dick and Spiro T look innocent.
No one’s mentioned Bobby Jindal of LA, one of the rising GOP stars. Anyone notice that Rob McKenna, who’s likely to be the next WA gov and who is aiming for a federal seat after that, has been cozying up to Bobby? Bobby was up here recently for a McKenna fundraiser and has publicly endorsed him. Not sure any other gov has done that.
July 14, 2012 at 3:24 am #763626
kootchmanMemberI did mention Jindal..see post # 19. But redblack has a point and a good one… I happen to think Romney is a good moderate Republican, but it’s the base and the primary… just like the left has their wack jobs.. we don’t need a VP to pull millions… just enough to peel away a few independents. Rasmussen has it dead even, with congress and the Senate in Republican hands.
The distaste for Obama and his destruction of the American economy will bring out the republicans, this is an anybody but Obama election. Ron Paul will deliver, if nothing more than to preserve his sons political options in the Republican Party.
wait… the ads of Nucor steelworkers thanking Obama for their jobs .. after the federal government shutdown Bethlehem is coming.. the thousands of vendors and Staples workers saved by Bain.. those are coming. Obama isn’t running in his record that’s for sure… jobs, BAIN, unemployment, BAIN, defecits, BAIN, Obamacare, Bain.. it’s all he has. SE Ohio? That’s coal country.. that’s coming too… Ohio power grid? Coal powered. Ohio, part of the the Marcellus shale natural gas deposits.. that’s blue collar pipeline jobs… Obama will be fiscally exhausted by labor day at this burn rate… then … Oh yea… Obama is being killed in fund raising.. BAIN… The guy was a good, successful, businessman.. and independents unlike hard core, envious leftists don’t hold that as a negative. America wants two things.. jobs and jobs. Obama ain’t delivering the goods. Every small business owner is out there right now… spreading the word… Obamacare is going to cost ya…
Brokered convention? This is a piece of cake for Romney… at least the Republicans are going to show up… Democrats are finding lots of excuses for not being at theirs. we have closed ranks ..
July 14, 2012 at 3:30 am #763627
JoBParticipantSmitty
psst.. context.
I didn’t use the word whitewashed about a person
i used it regarding the public perception of their actions.
