dobroParticipantTwo questions for the Repub sympathizers…
Is there a Republican politician working today who could pull off a 2/3rds improvised stemwinder like Bill Clinton just did? Who would that be?
#2- Pretty nice having the last Democratic President give such an impassioned speech in favor of the candidate. Why do you think the last Republican President didn’t do the same for Rmoney?
September 6, 2012 at 4:40 pm #770137
JVMember1.) Condi Rice.
2.) He did it for his wife. (he owes her for his handy cigar work on that 19-year-old) If he DIDN’T show up and perform, the base wouldn’t ever forgive him when Obama loses. So Hill had to consider taking the VP role and go down with this Obama ship, or stay away for a while and have a chance in 4 years.
As for Bush, it was a smart strategic move because it would have been a distraction from the main message.
JOBS, JOBS, JOBS, JOBS, JOBS.
September 6, 2012 at 4:43 pm #770138
elikapekaParticipantThat was a great speech – he really demolished the R talking points. Nobody can talk policy and details and still keep it entertaining and relatable like Bill can. Great job – and great job by the up and comers, Elizabeth Warren and Julian Castro in particular.
Between Clinton’s speech and Michelle Obama’s, the president has big shoes to fill tonight.
September 6, 2012 at 4:46 pm #770139
TanDLParticipantI’ll post today’s good news in this thread, too:
“Wall Street got another boost from payrolls processor Automatic Data Processing, which reported that employers added more private sector jobs than expected in August.
… private sector added 201,000 jobs last month, versus economists’ expectations of 140,000 new jobs. August’s figure was the highest since March, when the economy’s job creating engine was moving at a faster pace before dropping into lower gear in the summer.
Another report showed the number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits fell last week to its lowest level in a month, also an upbeat signal for a labor market that has struggled to create enough jobs.”
September 6, 2012 at 4:52 pm #770140
JanSParticipantlolol..JV…jobs, jobs, jobs…is that what Mr. Eastwood was talking about? is that what Condi was talking about? Or Mr. Ryan? or, for that matter, Mr. Romney? are you sure?
September 6, 2012 at 4:56 pm #770141
dobroParticipantNow that’s funny!
1) Please give any evidence you might have that Condi has ever given a great improvisational political speech. (and, no, her testimony at the 9/11 commission hearings doesn’t count)
2) Excellent right wing fantasy psychobabble.Where’d you get that one-Charles Krauthammer, maybe?
3)a smart strategic move to keep W away from the convention? I’d have to agree with that but not for the same reasons.
September 6, 2012 at 5:20 pm #770142
rwParticipantAfter every evening of the Republican and Democratic conventions I have been visiting factcheck.org to see what lies, falsehoods, and exagerrations were offered up the night before. No matter your political philosophy it’s good to have bipartisan factcheckers help you filter out the bs. There has been enough bs the last two weeks to put Cedar Grove out of business.
So I was prepared for Clinton’s speech to be sliced and diced into mincemeat when I saw this headline: “Our Clinton Nightmare.” I encourage you to read their analysis: http://factcheck.org/2012/09/our-clinton-nightmare/
September 6, 2012 at 5:33 pm #770143
dobroParticipantHere’s the takeaway line for those who don’t read links…
“Republicans will find plenty of Clinton’s scorching opinions objectionable. But with few exceptions, we found his stats checked out.”
September 6, 2012 at 5:38 pm #770144
BostonmanMemberI love the term Republican sympithizers lol. Bill Clinton is a great speaker, great Charisma but arguably low morals mixed with some bad personal decision making abilities. That being said I voted for the guy but he isn’t Obama and Obama isn’t him. Just because he can deliver a great speech doesn’t mean anything. He doesn’t even hold a political position within the Obama administration.
Good ole GWB has been pretty absent from politics since he left office. We don’t know if he was or wasn’t asked to speak. Maybe he was and turned it down. All this back and forth is pointless and won’t accomplish anything.
The reason you don’t get responses is because you come up with stuff like you did in post #6. Waste of time to answer the questions.
September 6, 2012 at 5:48 pm #770145
dobroParticipantThe reason I don’t get answers is because Republican sympathizers realize that if they give the honest answers which are-
1) No, there isn’t
2)The reason W wasn’t there is because Republicans don’t want to remind any voters of his failures
it would be almost like…like…saying something good about the Dems. Or the Dims, as some of you humorists like to refer to them.
PS-and this type of response-“Waste of time to answer the questions.” pretty much insures that you don’t want to consider the real answers. But thanks for playing.
September 6, 2012 at 5:49 pm #770146
elikapekaParticipantThanks, RW, for the link. I figured when the only thing the R commentators had to say was that the speech was too long, the facts checked out pretty well.
Bostonman, it’s true Clinton doesn’t hold a position in the administration. And it’s true he isn’t running for anything. But his speech was about policy and the stark differences between the two parties, and he made a clear and convincing case with a lot of specifics. There was more substance to that speech than anything else I’ve heard from the two parties put together. So I think it means a lot.
September 6, 2012 at 5:56 pm #770147
BostonmanMemberOf course there are stark differences between the policies. Thats like saying $10 is worth more than $1. It’t not really surprising.
I guess those are your answers Dobro which is why no one plays your games. So, thanks for playing too.
September 6, 2012 at 6:28 pm #770148
JVMemberKeep looking back to the good old days so nobody pays attention to your current games.
September 6, 2012 at 6:54 pm #770149
dobroParticipantThe truth kinda stings, doesn’t it?
September 6, 2012 at 7:54 pm #770150
JVMemberThe 23 million unemployed and/or underemployed. Yeah, that part stings.
Also, dobro, about Clinton.
He passed welfare reform (after vetoing it twice) and Obama is reversing that. Twice as many people on food stamps now.
Clinton worked with the other side and was a pragmatist. Obama doesn’t work with anybody except Democrats. And unions.
September 6, 2012 at 8:31 pm #770151
JVMemberSeptember 6, 2012 at 8:31 pm #770152
dobroParticipantWatch Clinton’s speech again. He explains very clearly the welfare reform lie.
And its funny how the RW thinks Clinton was so great now and try to peddle the fantasy that Obama won’t work with Repubs. Did you know there are over 200 amendments in the ACA bill that were put forward by Republicans?
And I guess those good old days you’re talking about were the last months of the Bush administration when we were losing 750,000 jobs per month. I repeat- seven hundred and fifty thousand. How concerned were you about that?
September 6, 2012 at 8:43 pm #770153
metrognomeParticipantfor you moralists who like to bring up past presidents … Ike had a longstanding affair with his female chauffeur while in the military, which is a court martial offense (fraternizing and all that.)
September 6, 2012 at 10:52 pm #770154
anonymeParticipantThe loss of 750,000 jobs per month and bringing the economy crashing down to depression era levels might just explain why more people are on food stamps now – but that’s another discussion. I never listen to political speeches on either side, but I couldn’t turn off the Big Dog last night. So refreshing to listen to someone with the intelligence to frame the big picture so clearly and eloquently. I kinda wish Dog was running again.
September 7, 2012 at 2:41 am #770155
JayDeeParticipantMetrognome:
And if Ike did, at least he was human. But it would have little bearing on his policies unless he was a 2012 Republican (unless he was Newt). I am afraid Country-club republicans are as rare as white rhinos (I am talking about real Rhinos or in this case perhaps RINOs).
September 7, 2012 at 6:15 pm #770156
kootchmanMemberJobs report? There goes that “bump” ! Funny, the smitten love fest of the “party for women” forgets why we used to call the Big Dawg “Slick Willy”… a man who spend over 20 years humiliating his wife with affair after affair, using his office, his power to get a lot of side dishes to his marriage… he was a dog alright! Every chance he had when he had positions of power to sexually harass..he took. Call me “old fashioned” but if he was my son-law.. and treated by daughter and grandaughter with that much respect… hell would have looked like a favorable alternative. Adults do what adults do… but in typical democratic oversight.. Clinton was a predator.. not all of his “conquests” or attempts were with willing participants… wonder how he would feel if his daughters husband was a “big dog” too?
September 7, 2012 at 6:17 pm #770157
dobroParticipantI thought you liked Clinton because he “made you money”. Apparently your morality stops at the cash register drawer.
September 7, 2012 at 6:32 pm #770158
kootchmanMemberAhh dobro… a true democrat. I still think Clinton was a masterful polico … capable of the greatest deceptions. I saw that big ole finger waving the air.. again.. ” I never had sex that woman, Ms. Lewinsky…”… the finger of truth. The man is a convicted perjurer… let’s not forget the facts. Sure, he is a bubba… not doubt abut it…affable, likable, smart.. but a serial liar. Nice try to connect my professional achievements with some twisted path to Bill Clinton’s character.. we’ve been watching that democrat strategy for over a year now. Mitt Romney … see how he treats his wife and family? A woman in trouble or distress was never a dinner bell for him. Sorta like trying to connect a car elevator to his moral character. Anything but the record….
September 7, 2012 at 6:39 pm #770159
elikapekaParticipantI bet Bill Clinton is one Big Dog that Mitt would like to strap to the top of his car and drive out of town.
September 7, 2012 at 7:13 pm #770160
metrognomeParticipantya know kootch, if the Dems were as viscious going after Dubya for treason and war crimes for lying us into an unnecessary war in Iraq as the neo-cons were going after Clinton for having a dalliance with a willing adult female, we would be in the middle of a civil war.
so, guess you don’t think much of Ike … or Nixon … or Agnew.
