[hmmm … wondering how that would taste with artisan bacon …]

WSMomParticipantDid you watch Oprah last night? Pork bacon is better for you than turkey bacon (less sodium, same fat %)
Good news for me since I don’t like turkey bacon :)
January 28, 2009 at 8:30 pm #656487
datamuseParticipantA friend of mine has actually made this. He says it’s even better if you use pork loin instead of Italian sausage.
But have you met the turbaconducken?

JoBParticipanti think this is a good time to mention garden shares.. where you can have a 22 week supply of good garden fresh local veggies for far less than it will take to treat the indigestion induced by first recipe…
and yes.. it looked good:(
Seattle Market Gardens produces veggies out of the High Point Garden..
you can’t get more local than that…
and they do garden shares…

addParticipantThis is so funny – there was a huge article in today’s NY Times about the Bacon Explosion the title is “Take Bacon. Add Sausage. Blog.” So of course I thought of all of you!!

Bacon Explosion: five out of five cardiologists don’t recommend it
Posted by Nancy Leson
When I saw the headline in the New York Times last month — the one that said: “Take Bacon. Add Sausage. Blog.” — those were words I simply could not ignore. And when my KPLU-buddy Dick Stein saw the same story, about a recipe for bacon-wrapped-sausage-and-bacon that’s taken the Internet by storm (complete with photos!) it only took about six seconds for him to flip me an e-mail insisting it would make for some fun food-radio. As if I needed prompting! So, on Sunday afternoon I went to work, making a tweaked version of “The BBQ Sausage Recipe of all Recipes” (as dubbed by the originators, a couple of barbecue-competition maniacs). But first, I called on my cardiologist, who suggested I might want to sprinkle a little Simvastatin over the top before I chow down……….continued – follow the link above.

cjboffoliParticipantFrom the 2008 book ‘Fat’ by Jennifer McLagan:
Decades of science on the subject have failed to prove conclusively that there is any direct connection between eating saturated fats and developing heart disease. The link between cholesterol, saturated fat, and heart disease was only associative, not casual, and did not account for the fact that some populations that eat diets high in animal fats (such as French and the Inuit) don’t have high rates of heart disease. The best projections generated by fat researchers reveal that a low-fat diet may add a mere two weeks to our life. Is it worth it?
Enjoy your bacon in moderation, people. And enjoy it guilt free!

AimParticipantcjb: I’m impressed — I didn’t know anyone else (besides my partner and myself) who’d read that book. Until now. It really was a great book. Along similar lines is “No Fat Chicks” by Terry Poulton. I highly recommend it for a fascinating read.

ZenguyParticipantI grew up with a grandmother that fried bacon, cooked the eggs in it and then saved it in a Crisco can. People have done that for a long time before that too. Now that people are weight concise we are the heaviest ever…funny. Viva la bacon!
