In any fire, investigators look at the owner first.

I remember when Legal Seafood in Boston burned to the ground across the street from a large urban fire station (late 70’s?). The fry cook told me there had been water running down the wall from the attic for two days before the fire and the Fire crew was at a false alarm at the furtherest corner of the district when it finally broke through the roof.

Alledgedly the insurance financed the expansion of the resturant into 4 more locations…

We put two rock paths through the vegetation so people (including us) could get to the sidewalk. But it is a good reminder.

I think it sounds fun. Although I refuse to pay more than $50 for a handbag (it’s a *handbag* ferchrissake). So my old ones are not likely to bring in big bucks for charity.

The problem we are having is a neighbor who comes out and yells at us while walking our dog (which we always clean up after). He was claiming that it is his property and that he had spent a lot of money landscaping. There are hundreds of dog walkers who walk by every day, some of whom do not pick up after their dogs. We are just as frustrated by that, since we often step in their mess on the grassy planting strip in front of our townhouse after dark.

Now that I know that the property is not his, I have something to counter with.

We had our last property surveyed when we were thinking of a remodel. The city claim does start at the center of the road. We found out the city owned not only the sidewalk and parking strip, but about half of our front yard.

And can I add a little rant here? For the people who put plants on their entire parking strip, leaving not one square inch upon which to step when exiting the car? I’ve said it here before: your primroses are going to feel the sole of my shoe, because as much as I would like to, I can’t hover over the parking strip until I get to the sidewalk.

Charla…seems that The House is dissing us…talking about shuffleboard, and comparing the pills we take, like we’re a bunch of old decrepit beings(walking a fine line here, since I am a bit decrepit at the moment – lol). I think he thinks the purse/handbag idea is boring, that perhaps it doesn’t encompass both sexes…so I was asking him what he might suggest as a fundraiser if he doesn’t like this idea.

Drinking at a bar is just fine with me…but what would you suggest as a fundraiser for the foodbanks while we’re drinking? Oh, this is directed at The House :) After all, making money is what this is about, not just socializing…:)

I’m glad you guys are organizing this amongst yourselves and having fun with it ’cause we’d be no help. My idea of the perfect purse, the $15 Target black backpack purse, replaced once a year. (Side note, is “purse” vs. “handbag” a regionalism like “soda” vs. “pop”?)

Have you ever had the savory scones that they have at Ladro or Tullys? I’m not sure where they really come from, but they are to die for awesome. Cheesy and tomato-y and some of them are sort of spicy and maybe have jalapeños in them and other things.

This was reinforced for me when buying a house and reading the legal property description. After detailing which portion of which quarter of which quarter (these things are kind of fun to try to decipher), it finished up with:

“And except the West 30 feet thereof conveyed to King County, Washington, for road by deed recorded…”

In this case I think the 30 feet starts at the center of the road and covers the lane of traffic, parking lane, green strip, and sidewalk…

We also are on Myspace but I seldom use that page so there’s nothing there worth bothering with … I keep the login mostly so I can upload video to MySpace Video when Blip isn’t working. Last but not least, though I’m not consistent with it, we also have Twitter, westseattleblog if anybody wants to “follow” that … sometimes I post in-progress updates (oh, the excitement) while tracking new content. Would have been semi-exciting tonight, anyway, since I have just been digging stuff up on this California/Alaska humongous project (which I’m sure is old news to all the insiders, but I tend to think that if it’s news to me, it’s news to enough of everyone else that we might as well post it).

Aha, thanks for the response. I found the statute that controls here. Apparently these are owned by the city. It is covered under Title 15 of Seattle Municipal Code:

“D. “Public place” means and includes streets, avenues, ways, boulevards, drives, places, alleys, sidewalks, and planting (parking) strips, squares, triangles and right-of-way for public use and the space above or beneath its surface, whether or not opened or improved.”
