rustyMemberHi Joanne,
We are renting our 3/BD 1.5 bath in Fauntley Hills. It’s 1 block from the Fauntleroy Center. Dogs are fine :) and it has a view.
Feel free to call me if you would like to see it.

JanSParticipantround the sound..sorry the peds were a bit slow in their…umm…what? lack of response? Yeah, I am a ped, and for sure I’d get out of your way…well, I wouldn’t be in the bike path at all unless I was crossing the street. I like the bell idea, but mebbe you need a loudspeaker hooked up…lol..maybe they’d get it then…

in forum Open DiscussionMichellMemberI was wondering if any readers are my neighbors in the 4700 block of 47th? It would be interesting to meet any fellow WSB fans…
If so, I’ll see you tonight for the block watch party.

RonMParticipantNever thought this would be such a polarizing topic! The simple fact is that the ignorant bicyclist suddenly appeared in front of the car from between two parked cars without looking. Had he hesitated or deviated his path or slowed, he’d been a hood ornament on my car. I merely tapped the horn to let him know I was there. It obviously angered him and he intentionally gave me the finger, slowed, and prevented me and the cars behind me from passing him. Ignorance and arrogance, just the recipe we need in West Seattle? NOT!

JanSParticipantvh…we did a soup swap last January…was fun to have all sorts of different soups in one’s freezer. I haven’t heard of anyone doing a full dinner thing, though.
August 5, 2008 at 10:45 pm #587696Topic: Cooking co-op/ dinner group
in forum Open DiscussionvanessahutchinsonMemberI was wondering if anybody knows if there is a dinner sharing/cooking co-op group in West Seattle. For those of us
who work full time and commute, it would be nice to get together (or do it in your own kitchen) once every week or two, cook a huge batch of one meal, and share with others who do the same, ending up with a bunch of different meals in our freezer. Have you heard of anything in our area like this?

villagegreenMemberJenV – I don’t get the motorcycles on the sidewalk. They do have a garage. Do they think they’re doing the street parkers a favor? It’s gotta be illegal, though. We get to ‘enjoy’ their deck parties and loud music as well due to our location – although it has been much better this summer.
We’ve dealt with homeowners storing huge boats on on the street right out our front window for an entire winter before. That’s definitely illegal and I was finally about to call the city about it, but he finally moved it.
So, yes, homeowners and renters are guilty of hillbilly behavior.

austinMemberUsing the street to park because your driveway/yard is full of broken down cars is my fav.

ZenguyParticipantAnother funny moment in Sleepless in Seattle is when Meg Ryan was chasing Tom Hanks in the boat going to WS and was on the top of the viaduct going South.

August 5, 2008 at 10:12 pm #633407In reply to: My hillbilly infestation…
AnonymousInactiveYeah, point well taken, it does take all kinds. In general, people amaze me with their behavior.
The folks that use the street to park even though they have a drive way/garage, kill me. So does finding dog and cat excrement on my lawn, inside my fence. Oddly enough, I do not have any pets so I can for the life of me figure out how it keeps appearing like magic :)

WSBKeymasterJust in case anybody tries to flag us on this:
Somebody a few months back tried to make the argument that hillbilly was an ethnic slur.
We determined it wasn’t. That ruling stands.
Just being pre-emptive. Now back to the regularly scheduled discussion … TR

AnonymousInactiveJenV that is why I said “In SOME cases” … I have equal disgust for owners or renters/landlords who contribute to the degradation of a neighborhood. I’ve just come across more renters who don’t care vs owners who don’t care. I am currently dealing with a similar issue as Todd so my apologies if my frustration slipped out.
August 5, 2008 at 9:44 pm #633403In reply to: My hillbilly infestation…
ToddinWestwoodMemberevery time I sit back and collect my thoughts about them, they seem to kick it up a notch.
The city said flat out, the only thing you can do is to keep reporting the violations until the landlord gets sick of paying the fines.
We feel the worst for the folks who lived right next door to them. They were never on good terms. They had to put their house on the market to move to Florida for a new job. The real estate agent would have open houses and people would slow down, look at the neighbors mess and drive away.
I feel like he is trying to intentionaly F*#$ them by making his house un-sellable.

JenVMember“Sounds like they are renters..”…the issue is not that they are renters, wsblover- some renters have sense and common decency. The people who rented the house before were great. These ones- not so much. I have seen these people, and hillbilly is the best word to describe them. they let their kids run around like wild animals, and they don’t have the sense to pick up their own garbage. Nasty broken down cars leaking fluids into the storm drains. I was there the afternoon he towed his new wreck into the street. pure and simple Whisky Tango White Trash! Can neighbors sue the landlord/owner for diminished property value?

August 5, 2008 at 9:26 pm #633306In reply to: Avalon Way vs. Harbor Ave. drivers
roundthesoundParticipantI know exactly what we’re talking about, I drive through this intersection almost everyday and it’s when I have a solid green (not an arrow) and I know Avalon has a solid green that I see people stopped there turning right. I’ll be sitting with my left blinker on and someone will just be stopped waiting to turn right, I’ve also seen many people get honked at for sitting there too long. Why do people sit there? Just an observation from the other side of the bridge…
August 5, 2008 at 9:15 pm #633354In reply to: RANT – Bicyclists on Alki
roundthesoundParticipantI was ridding my bike on the path yesterday and I rang my bell at a group of people and I hear “how cute, she has a little bell”; did they move out of the way, no. So the bike path sucks sometimes, doesn’t mean you need to bring that aggression out onto the road when you could be running into a car instead of a bunch of jerk-face pedestrians. Yeah, its the law that you can take the whole lane as a bicyclist but that doesn’t mean it’s going to hurt any less when you get hit by a car.
August 5, 2008 at 9:14 pm #633305In reply to: Avalon Way vs. Harbor Ave. drivers
JanSParticipantroundthesound…there is a point when the traffic coming from Harbor Ave. has a green arrow, and the Avalon traffic has a red light…once they both turn a steady green is when the freeforall begins..
August 5, 2008 at 9:10 pm #633401In reply to: My hillbilly infestation…
JanSParticipantTodd, take dated pictures, save them, and use them for evidence. Maybe the landlord/city will pay attention then. Yeah, I know, easy for me to say..I’m not living the nightmare…maybe someone on here has had to deal with this in the past and might have advice?
So sorry this has happened to your neighborhood..no wonder you’re looking at other places :(
August 5, 2008 at 9:03 pm #633353In reply to: RANT – Bicyclists on Alki
JanSParticipantI suppose I equate a bicyclist darting out into traffic from between two cars without looking to a child playing who darts out without looking. What would have been devastating is if the driver had actually hit him because of this. This could have been much worse than flaming words thrown back and forth on a forum…so lets agree, maybe the driver shouldn’t have honked, but perhaps the bicyclist should have been a bit more observant, and not so quick to flip someone off. Maybe share the road goes both ways? Just a thought..
