I first thought of Angelo’s as well … also Endolyne Joe’s has a smallish “banquet room”. Buddha Rusksa hosted my husband’s office dinner on the upper level once, think we had 14 in our party? The upstairs of Elliot Bay WS (although no hard alcohol there). Elliot Bay Burien has a separate room my family has had a private party, 20-25 people (again though, no “cocktails” but beer and wine). And Classic Eats in Burien has a private back room – we were there for dinner not long ago and they were hosting a HS reunion on their back patio.

i am with you. i could have done with less information..

and sometimes too much information is the hallmark of a scam..
but other times it is the hallmark of disordered mental processing..
how do we tell? i don’t know.

I will admit that I have been scammed by people who said they were in need… i am pretty sure that more than once items from my garage (mostly freely given but not always) ended up being exchanged for goods that i would not have approved…

however. i have also watched people go from lives without hope to lives that include realistic possibilities… I have seen people literally transition from being what they considered trash to productive.

how do we know what to give and when to give it? how do we know when people will use our gifts to good ends and when they won’t? i don’t know.

but sometimes it pays off.. and when it does it can make all the difference in the world for them. that i know.

To address the scamming issues on GoFundMe. We have no idea if this is a scam. Using her name is immaterial, you have no idea if the photo is her or if the story she posted is real or, if it is real, it’s her’s. To donate is to accept it on trust. It relies on your belief and your credulity.

I don’t know that Desiree is real. She created the profile in order to make the post and has no presence anywhere in the blog, based on her profile. This makes her request less credible, in my eyes. If JoB of Jan or MIWS did the same I could reasonably apply a high degree of credibility to the request.

I am, as noted above, a suspicious person and not given to empathy or sympathy. Unless it’s about dogs.

I’m leery of these types of requests, especially from someone with no footprint in the community where the request is fielded. Desiree’s account seems to have been created for the purpose of making the request and posting the link. She has no other posts or replies. While this is not conclusive it is, shall we say, circumstantial evidence.

The amount of money is pretty middling for someone claiming to need in depth psychiatric care, has to relocate to a different state to get care and will be unemployed and current arrearages in medical bills.

As to the story; it’s interminably long and I just cannot summon the interest to read the whole thing. It’s not a new story, it’s an old one shared by many people with varying degrees of damage. To that effect, it’s almost vague with the breadth of information it provides.

Forest, I know you mean well, but she is under no obligation to publicly come here a prostrate herself with abounding thanks, so to satisfy you, me, or anyone else. Did you go to her GoFundMe page? Obviously, she has friends offering words of encouragement….and helping her. And a picture. If she was going to just scam everyone, why would she do that? And she didn’t exactly get a warm welcome here, now did she, some people doubting her and saying it/she sounded like scamming. It’s hard enough to eat your pride and ask for help(yes, it’s damned difficult), but perhaps she does her thanks in private. I know I did…a lot. And I still do. I have had invaluable help and encouragement from people in this community. I’m fiercely independent a good bit of the time, but , wow, along with the help that was kindly given, I’ve made great friendships. And I thank them personally, not here. Be kind :)

Good question. I wrote in my post that it “appears” she skipped the neighborhood. At the time of that writing, no one had reported hearing from her in the 3 days since the original post. At the time of this writing, no one except me has posted a thank you on this thread.

For what it’s worth, I feel badly if I jumped to an unfair conclusion about the 3-day (and counting) public silence. Perhaps it isn’t equal to skipping the neighborhood.

Found a GPS and charging cable while walking my dog near 35th and Alaska. Looks like it was probably from a car prowl since it’s missing the mounting gear. It still works, I charged it up. If it’s yours, I don’t really need it, call and describe make, model and if the home address is correct, that also. I did come by the address to try to return it but it was a small apartment complex and I didn’t want to just start knocking on doors. Reply back or call 760-709-0321.

One other bit of advice I wanted to share earlier but didn’t have time is from my own experience. Be sure to stick to concise answers in response to any questions/comments from the magistrate.

My only moving violation, 24 years ago in a few months, was in that same area and actually was related to the same building.

I had pulled into the recessed curb area in front of what was then Huling Buick/Mazda one evening after dark to see if I could spot a guy from the janitorial firm with which I was then associated, that cleaned the Huling properties.

Didn’t see them, and as I was pulling back out into traffic to continue southbound along Fauntleroy I realized that I needed to get over one more lane to the left so as not to be forced to turn right on Alaska.

I swear I looked up at the light and saw all green lights for both directions and continued on over and through the intersection. Next thing I know, lights flashing and a blip of the siren behind me from the SPD unit I had seen waiting on Alaska to go east/north. It was truly a case of “…what did I do?”

The officer states that I ran a red light. So I either misread the lights, (continuing on Fauntleroy red, continuing up Alaska still green), or, in the short amount of time between looking up at the lights, then over my shoulder to move one more lane to the left and then heading through the intersection, the light changed.

Went downtown to plead my case (worked down there anyway), and when I was explaining all of this to the magistrate, I think she actually interrupted me and said; “Oh, yeah, they just changed the lights at that intersection, and it’s confusing. Ticket reduced to [whatever]”. (They had recently done a full signal upgrade including tweaking the sequence and/or timing, IIRC)

I think my mouth actually started to say; “Yeah, I should have known to pay closer attention because of that”. But, brain interrupted and said; “Shut Up!!” And I just said; “Yes, it is”.

So, just a word of caution if you are like me in occasionally not having brain engaged before putting mouth into gear and prone to volunteering too much information! ;-)

This is an invaluable thread of comments. Speaking for myself, as someone who still thinks the opening of this thread is a 95% form letter aimed at raising quick money instead of mental health awareness, I want to thank everyone here for sharing their personal stories and experiences with health issues. Sadly, I also want to note that whoever posted the opening story of this thread appears to have already skipped the neighborhood without (thus far) bothering to acknowledge or thank any of her fellow West Seattle residents for their encouraging words about her it-isn’t-about-the-money awareness crusade.

As seen in the pictures, there are some COSMETIC issues. The cosmetic flaws did not bother me enough to get them fixed. Would be a great starter car for your teenager who might add additional bumps and bruises parking around Seattle.
My Toyota has always been dependable and still has plenty of miles and life left in it. (It has 102,000 miles on it.)

In the images or the interior, you can see the mileage is just above 102k, the interior is cloth and freshly cleaned, the driver’s side mirror is cracked but functional, and the driver’s side door handle piece has broken off but is rigged with a pull-string and fully functional as well.

yes.. you often need resources to find the resources that are out there…
unfortunately those resources are too often lacking by the time people realize they want help..
all the more reason to do everything we can to connect people with their own personal support systems.. where they have someone with the resources help them through the process

In my experience, going to the court for parking tickets is usually worth it. Out of the four times I’ve done so, three times they dropped the fine completely, and one time they dropped it down to $10. If the parking ticket was indeed something nitpicky, your chances are good. The time that they dropped it to $10, was when I expressed dismay at the $47 charge and admitted I had learned my lesson.

The bottom line is until they the politicians and transportation heads can get the lone driver out of the car and find a way to get cost under control. Get a system that runs 24/7 including holidays. Goes all over towns not just main routes. Runs from Olympia to Everett
Bremereton to Seattle east to west west to east north to south south to north. Convince taxpayers to pay for it. Traffic will always be bad and getting worse…. face it we are all at their mercy…

Appreciate the feedback! I do plan to go before the magistrate with photos. Maybe the fact that I honestly did not know I was committing an infraction plus bad signage, maybe they will knock some money off the ticket. I will post what happens after I see the magistrate.

If you have the opportunity to go in front of the magistrate (not having had a car for 22 years am not sure if something like this can now be challenged online at some level) I would say do so. Before you head downtown to do so, maybe go back to the area and take pictures if you can. Maybe a wide shot showing where signage is and isn’t, and then something a bit closer up if the wording on the signage isn’t readable in the side shot.

I’d say to at least give it a try if your schedule allows. (Just remember you’ll have to pay for parking downtown unless you take the bus ;-) ).

I guess my point, Jan, is that, while this is difficult, there are resources available. The catch is that you have to seek them out, they won’t come looking for you.

JoB, The question of whether or not one seeks assistance is a relevant question, as is where that help should come from. There are resources but you have to find them. Alas, it can take resources to find the resources to find the resources to find the resources…….

I am not a person who is given to sympathy let alone empathy. I’ve never been terribly empathetic. I don’t however, believe that no one else should have help because I didn’t. I did, if you didn’t read carefully. Well, I sort of had help. I also shunned help from others out of paranoia and pure stubbornness.

When you get that help it can be hard to reconcile. You’ve been a hot wet mess your whole life and then, when the medications kicks in, you feel…different. It’s terrifying. You don’t feel like you. You don’t know who you are and it starts to feel like you are being controlled by others and it just snowballs from there.

Did I mention paranoia yet?
