Back when I was married our first cat was named Bob…as in ….bob cat? He was unfortunately hit by a car and killed, and the very next day we adopted 2 more…Barnaby and Maurice…Maurice was a black cat, and we subsequently found out that Maurice means Prince of Darkness..

When I was 16, I had two feral-type cats that hung around my duplex. In a moment of altered being, I named them Toaster Oven and Toyboat.

It didn’t matter, they never responded to the names, they just responded to the sound of a bag of Friskies.

    Wise cats.

Still like the sound of “Toyboat.”

i’ve been very successful cutting my cats claws when he’s sleeping. if i’m slow and gentle he doesn’t even notice.

but i do wake up in the middle of the night with him sharpening his claws on my blanket…

    ejones – too sweet. lol!

Ok – how’s this: my mouser’s most official name is Sister Mary ZouZou.

Can anybody name the movie her namesake (in part) character was in? WITHOUT googling!

She has a couple of more casual names as well.

    ’nuff said. ;)

we were naming our tadpole in my preschool class, and they came up with a list of about 25 possible names, so they decided their favorites and we voted. when “chad” lost to “mr. noodles” tears were shed.

when mr. noodles died, they decided to get a new tadpole, this one they named “mr. noodles two.” i’m just glad no one cried this time.

I haven’t been over there in awhile, but earlier in the year Freshie’s, across from WS High, was doing some very nice soups. I cannot remember the owner’s name, but she was doing them herself in fairly small batches at the time.

I really enjoyed them….and there is a big fireplace in there as well!

And, then my favorite, not exciting, but so nourishing and warms me to the bone good – El Salvador’s chicken soup. It’s all about the fresh broth. I’m too lazy to make broth. Yum.

Ellenator – howza’ about rumball dumplings?

I posted about this in the Twitter box. (we post many things there that don’t get to home page level unless we start getting a lot of e-mail about it)

There’s a search for some guys who committed some kind of crime on 22nd SW, possibly on the county side, they were helping county with containment. Had bandannas over their face. Didn’t catch the rest of the description.

Lowery. First…and this is my opinion… older women won’tbe playing the games, but will be a bit more cynical about men because of the wisdom one has learned. And…if I’m out with my friends – female types, or couples, and you’re at the bar, how exactly should I approach you so it doesn’t seem that I’m looking to just pick you up for the evening, if you get my drift. So it’s a double edged sword.

And then there’s this. I don’t do the match.com thing because , for me,while I don’t mind a man in my life, I just don’t want one in my home – lol. In other words, I’m not quite looking for a soulmate, for a committed relationship of permanence..I’ve done that already. Now, one must always remember to believe in never saying never. But, for the most part, miss having male friends to spend time with. The dynamic is different than spending time with female friends.

I think maybe it’s (the difficulty) fairly equal for both men and women when it comes to meeting someone out there on the “social scene”.

I complained about this intersection and they added extra signage and paint. They are aware that it’s dangerous. I’m not sure how far they’ll go to fix it, though.

I’ve almost been hit there twice.

not just a river rafting story with great scenery set to good music..

as for the theft.. they didn’t need a search warrant to go talk with the guy…

and if the guy is as unstable as was reported and they said … your mom thinks you broke into her garage … i imagine they would get an earful from him … giving them probable cause to search.

Vincent… looks to me like you just want to get a reaction…

I’m from Portland. There is no excuse for Seattle’s complete transportation retardation…and I mean that in the literal sense. Sometimes I think there is too much privilege here. People talk about the most inane issue in regards to transportation. I am proud of Portland. My mom lives 30 miles outside the city and can go to the zoo, downtown, to the airport, and everywhere in between. Portland’s population has multiplied exponentially since i’ve lived there but it’s a pleasure to visit. Last year we went down for a wedding, stayed at a hotel that gave us vouchers for the streetcar, and never even used our car. Somebody in Seattle needs a really big spanking!

Mmmm, Zenguy, that does look good! I do believe I’ll be having some french onion at some point this week. And that citysearch link reminds me that my soup list should include a nice bowl of Than Brothers veggie pho (extra tofu, please) with lots of lime and basil. See also: cream puffs.

Also not West Seattle, and I’ve yet to personally eat there but have read through the chef’s cookbook, a friend of mine swears by Hopvine Pub’s soups. Worth looking into, perhaps.

I agree, wholeheartedly. The entire experience – from reading about it on the forums and requesting my own, to setting up the meeting, watching him pull into the parking lot with his Bacon Delivery Mobile and place the sign on his window as people suddenly came out of nowhere to retrieve their very own packs of trunk bacon, finally getting a chance to meet the talented cjboffoli – it all definitely brightened my mood.

Food (in the form of delicious bacon) for thought, indeed.

just to clarify my position . . . i genuinely think seattle folk are friendly. i’ve met some of the most endearing people here. funny, talented, smart, passionate, all around good people. it just takes time to get to know them. there is true warmth under the “chill”.

zenguy – thanks for the recommendations! i do get out and meet people but i typically have to leave west seattle to do it. my comments were isolated to meeting singles within the west seattle community, not seattle at large.

Unfortunatly with the major budget deficits our state and city our facing I doubt anything will change with the cross walk in the immediate feature. So maybe this should serve as a reminder to all to be more proactive. If you are a driver, pay closer attention to your surrrondings and dont talk on your phone when you are driving etc. If you are a pedestrian pay close attention to drivers on the road, walk further out of your way to a better cross walk, or bring a flashlight like Sue does. I think everyone needs to be accountable here.

Our next door neighbors have a HUGE holly tree, and I doubt they’d mind if someone came and snipped a bit. In fact, they get it professionally pruned every once in awhile, so you’d probably be doing them a favor. ;) We’re near the Junction, on 42nd. Let me know!

Looks like you decided on a bakery already, but I was going to offer up my pastry chef sister. She’s made cakes for various occasions, both on a large and small scale. She graduated from South Seattle’s culinary arts program, and is truly amazing. If anyone is looking for someone to make them something (cakes, cookies, breads, etc.) please feel free to contact me and I’ll be happy to pass along your info and provide examples of her work. :)
