JayDeeParticipantAfter picking up my pound of goodness from our one-shot bacon dealer, I came home and had a BLT…
While I could wax poetic about bacon, instead I thought about all of the people that our dealer made happy in WSB land…heck when he pulled into the Farmer’s Market parking lot tonight, he had a line 3 long within a minute.
Then I thought about this study that purported to show that your own happiness is affected by those in closest geographic context to you, heck, even people you don’t even know, just as long as they are your neighbor. If they are happy, you are more likely to be happy too. Yes, the conclusions seem odd to a rational mind, but perhaps there is a part of a truth here.

Then I remembered an article discussing how the more secular are less likely to contribute to charity, and less likely to be happy. However, the article opined that the reason was the secular humanists were not part of a community. While I won’t speculate how many folk in WSB-land are secular, the blog-community does form a diffuse geographically connected bunch of people.
And while I am the last person to stand up and sing “kumbayah”, what if the overall happiness of West Seattle was increased by the simple pleasures of good bacon provided through the community of a neighborhood blog?
Food (or should I say bacon) for thought.

JanSParticipantJayDee…..indeed…I’m a “secular” person, and my community has grown since the inception of this blog…and I am happier because of it.
No kumbayah’s here…just the truth :)

JoBParticipantChristopher’s act of kindness did make a lot of people very happy.. and some dogs too.
if smiles are contagious, he may have singlehandedly elevated the mood of the entire area:)

carrieannMemberI agree, wholeheartedly. The entire experience – from reading about it on the forums and requesting my own, to setting up the meeting, watching him pull into the parking lot with his Bacon Delivery Mobile and place the sign on his window as people suddenly came out of nowhere to retrieve their very own packs of trunk bacon, finally getting a chance to meet the talented cjboffoli – it all definitely brightened my mood.
Food (in the form of delicious bacon) for thought, indeed.

ZenguyParticipantI too smiled every time I read all the amuzing posts and shared with coworkers as well…there by making people outside of West Seattle happier too.

austinMemberIs it bad that now every meal I eat contains bacon?

JenVMemberIf I were your cardiologist, I would say – no, not at all. ;)

FranciParticipantmmm.. I’m already wondering when I can get some more of that delicious bacon. I bought 2 packages, just under half of the 1st package is left. The other is a xmas present. If I can keep from opening it, that is.

JoBParticipanti am having great difficulty staying out of mine..

carrieannMemberWe made most of the first package almost immediately after we returned home from the delivery. I cooked the rest this evening (smells like bacon and brownies in here. bacon brownies anyone?) and the other is in the freezer, waiting for Christmas morning. The only other bacon I’ve enjoyed as much comes from The Maltby Cafe (where we’re going on Saturday, before heading to the Leavenworth tree lighting. Supposed to be a balmy 28 degrees!)

JanSParticipantSpeakloud…I doubt there’ll be a “run” this tme. The link above is so you can order and go pick up your own :)
December 14, 2008 at 5:53 am #649635
SpeakLoudMemberOh but I just love the ‘communityness’ of the ‘run’ not to mention the cost effective gas saving green earth huginess that we could use more of :) If enough of us ‘islanders’ want it do you think they would bring it to us???
December 14, 2008 at 7:05 am #649636
SueParticipantI think I heard something about them delivering 50 lbs. or more.
