is it a substantial amount? If so, you might consider turning it over to the police at some point.

The traffic is a mess on 4th Ave S between the WS Bridge and the stadiums due to the repaving project (http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/pave_4s.htm). I travel that road every day, and I’ve never thought that it needed repaving. It seems in pretty good shape, unlike Delridge and 35th, where every time I drive on those roads, I wish they’d get completely re-done.

I wonder how the city comes up with their priority list for repaving projects? I know 4th Ave S gets a lot more traffic volume than West Seattle arterials, but I’ve never noticed any potholes or crumbling pavement on that stretch of 4th Ave S, while I have to constantly dodge craters along Delridge.

I’m not looking forward to the next 6 months of repaving-related traffic. The exit to 1st Ave S gets so backed up now for the same reason, because people are avoiding 4th. So, that’s not a good alternative either. If anyone has any more information as to why 4th Ave S needs repaving than what is on the SDOT website, I’d like to know. Then maybe I’d feel less resentment over the traffic hassles the project is causing.

    Hi Barbara,

Are you still dog sitting and do you watch large breeds? We’re new to the area and in need of someone – would love to chat with you. Our dog is a very sweet Newfoundland mix, about 65lbs. and looks like a black Golden Retriever. We estimate he’s around 9 or 10, super quiet (unless someone comes to the door or he’s playing with another dog), shy until he’s comfortable, and very sweet.

    Thanks!

I agree with you and is becoming increasingly difficult by the sheer volume of this stuff I see. When I see people abandoning things like cigarette butts or carts, sometimes I’ll pick it up and flag them down to “return” what they dropped or left behind.

Turn signals? That’s a whole ‘nuther matter. If you signal in a timely way, I’ll go out of my way to accomodate you. If you don’t, don’t expect me to read your mind. Alki drivers joining the High Span lane come to mind, both at the bottom and top if the onramp.

I’m shy and I hate confrontation. However, I’m increasingly frustrated by increasingly inconsiderate actions by people who either aren’t paying attention, or just being rude. Some examples from the past couple days-
*At the market, I watched a person leave the grocery cart behind another car after they unloaded their groceries, instead of putting it away in the cart return a whole 20 yards away (I returned it when I was done putting my own groceries in the car).
*I was waiting for a pump at the Safeway gas station – a person in front of me pulled into a pump once it was open and washed his windows, but didn’t get fuel (couldn’t he have washed his windows without taking up a space?) – then when the person at the front pump left, someone drove in the wrong way (it is marked “wrong way”) and whipped into the open space while I was pulling up to it. Frustrated, I left.
*I followed someone over the bridge who apparently works at the same building I do, eventually following him into our parking lot – he didn’t use his turn signals once, despite a handful of lane changes and turns (the first was when he cut me off as he moved from the left hand lane into the right). He parked several spaces away from me and we walked into the office together – I don’t know him. Should I have said something, i.e. “I think your turn signal must be broken?”

I feel like not calling people on their inappropriate actions, if there is opportunity to do so (I wish there was a way to call out people cheating in the bus lane over the bridge!), enables the behaviors, but perhaps it is an exercise in futility. Is there a civil, gentle or humorous way to approach people in these situations? If a verbal confrontation arises (i.e. they tell me to go f— myself), is there an appropriate response? Or should I just keep my mouth shut and continue internalizing my disbelief and exasperation?

In the proper atmospheric conditions the horns can carry a really, really long way! I live a few blocks from the Junction and on some nights I can hear them clear as a bell.

Yes, they are coming from the area around W. Marginal and the lower bridge. My money says the longer horn is that there are a lot of people living down there and the engineers want to make sure they know a train is coming through…either out of concern or spite.

For Susan21: this is where people have conversations. No one is obliged to stick hard and fast to anything. Tangential topics come up every now and again.

    Train horn in the night,
It wakes me from my sound sleep.
    Time to make the coffee.

We took it off our calendar because after we had one listed sometime this summer (July, I think) someone e-mailed to say that they showed up and found out they’re on hiatus until fall. The fall brochure (PDF below) does not have a start date. If you call and ask them, let us know what you find out.

Hopefully someone can help me figure this out. Does Alki CC have friday night skate nights during the summer? Specifically, friday sept 8? I can only find the fall course registration guide on seattle.gov, and it doesn’t clarify which fridays they do it. It isn’t listed on the WSB event calendar either. It seems like they do it every friday u.n.o., but there’s no way to tell. Thanks!

Anyone wanting to sell or get rid of an unused portable (not fixed in the ground) and adjustable basketball hoop? Would rather re-use someone’s rather than buy new but my little guy really is taking to basketball and would love to have this for him. He is “little” so adjustable height is a must. Let me know if anyone would want to free up some of their space! Thanks!

Ah, yes, childhood memories. What ebenc4 is politely asking about is not the wistful sounds of trains (or sea lions) in the distance, which is lovely. Those of us currently living in the lower lands adjacent to the Duwamish (“slightly” different from North Admiral) experience high volume horns in the very early hours noted, often on Sunday night. Doesn’t seem to be a set pattern.

Having a sea lion at the house next door is equivalent. It’s loud. Don’t disrespect your adjacent neighborhood’s experience. You don’t live there.
