    Kayleigh..

i didn’t hear a statesman.. i heard a very shrewd politician trying to sound like a statesman.

and maybe his speech.. which by the way essentially excuses his pastor’s rhetoric and makes his campaign the cure for that sort of America coming together… will save his campaign. It was great misdirection.

but let’s just give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was 100% for real in that speech… and that he is earnestly seeking a way to create solutions…

    then i would ask…

if he has been listening to that kind of rhetoric… which he genuinely feels is misguided… for 20 years…. and it has gotten so out of hand that it surfaced in this campaign.. because one of those sermons was directly from this campaign… why hasn’t he been able to accomplish within his own church what he promises for America?

If he is the answer.. why wasn’t he the answer for his own church?

He is certainly a symbol… of many different things to many different people…

but someone who has the kind of leadership skills he claims ought to have made more of a difference in his own church… ought to have had a moderating effect on his pastor…

It doesn’t appear that he did…

That is just one of my fears where Barak Obama is concerned.

    Another is his experience.

Go to the GoHillary thread and follow the link i put there to the videos from the flag commanders on why they think Hillary has more experience and would make a better commander in chief… and then go to Youtube and ask yourself why the pro Hillary videos from that group are 10… to 1 for Obama.

Experience is a real issue here…

i could go on.. but hubby is home and it’s library night…

i will check in when i get back.

Oh Sue — a gal after my own heart — I get SOOOO embarassed that I watch that VH1 reality stuff, but I can’t help it, it’s a train wreck every week and you can’t not watch! LOVE Bravo shows, too, P.R., Top Chef, Real Housewives (do people REALLY live like that????).

As for food, I’m in on the cheese gig, my family teases me unmercifully about it. And Peanut Butter Zig Zag soy ice cream (PCC), Tim’s Cascade potato chips, Red Aussie Licorice at Trader Joe’s, and a juicy Filet at JaK’S!!!! Or the spinach salad if I’m feeling like a good, healthy human that day.

    JanS…

it hasn’t become a matter of race… it has become a matter of poor judgement…

    let’s see..

he went to the senate and chose Joe Leiberman for his mentor… long after Joe had started showing his spots.

reaching across the aisle? Joe was and has leapt right into the McCain campaign.

Then there is the minor matter of one of his campaign staff who is under indictment in Chicago for something related to money for favors… i think while he was in the Obama campaign.

Then there is his church… not only has he attended for the last 20 years… he made his pastor his spiritual adviser for the his campaign.

In plain terms, he endorsed him.

And he might have been able to claim the high road of private church worship if it wasn’t that small matter of his church making those tapes available to the public… They put them up for sale.

at the very least, he has shown poor judgement.

But if calling it a race thing keeps everyone’s eyes off of those small lapses of judgement.. all the better for Obama…

The only one making this campaign about race is Barak Obama’s campaign…

it’s a gamble.. but it might still work for him. we will see.

Kayleigh – You are mistaken in assuming that because I don’t want Obama to be our next President, I am “scared” of a black man becoming President.

I am not a bigot, I don’t secretly hate black people. I just, very strongly, don’t like Obama or what he stands for (and remember, after all, I am Republican).

And if Obama “secretly believes these things said in the heat of a sermon”, then we should all be scared. To have that much blame, distrust and hatred of your country will not serve well if you are going to try and run it.

It’s not enough for me that Obama laughed off his pastor as a “crazy uncle”. Especially after he called for Ferraro to resign. That makes him a hypocrite. He believes the things his pastor said. I would have more respect for him if he were to admit that.

Yup, it’s a question of race and a question of class — Clinton, Bill, has returned to claiming that Hillary is the president for people who *need* a president. Whatever the hell that means. The Bierkenstock wearing latte drinking … support Obama. Yeah, right. That and the black folks and the blue collar folks in Iowa and … Hmm…is it race? Is it class? Whatever works to get the third term of the Clinton presidency.

It’s kind of amazing to watch what happens when people can smell defeat…desperation is not a pretty sight.

c — who’s about to fall off the fence into the “I won’t vote for Hillary — I’ll leave the top spot blank” camp.

Music guilty pleasure… Fleetwood Mac, without a doubt!! My ALL time favorite band!! Although, I do prefer their stuff before the “Tusk” era. The older stuff. My dad dated Stevie Nicks in high school! Pretty cool!

Dr. Oz says (all heads turn)….hehe….get yourself a Neti pot, and rinse your sinuses out with a warm saline solution…on a regular basis. I am lucky to not be an allergy sufferer. Daughter is, though, and I have suggested this to her….

well…I’m not really talking about what the Reps are feeling aobut McCain…the other half, the Dems, had better start getting their act together, or the Reps will be laughing all the way to the presidency. What it now has come down to is a matter of race…tell me I’m wrong…and I’ve felt all along that something would be brought up to deflect from the real things that need to be concentrated on…like the Reps firm belief that they can, even with McCain, beat Hillary. Hope I’m wrong…

    Hi,

I’m looking to rent a one bdrm / bath in WS. I have a small(25lbs), very well behaved dog, that loves people and other dogs.

    Apt, Mother-in-Law or basement preferred.

I am quiet, clean, pay my bills on time and have good references. I am non-smoker, non-drug user and prefer open communication, in order to resolve issues that may arise later.

I have some credit issues, so I am able to pay a large deposit with first and last. I’m an IT Purchasing Analyst and make plenty of money to pay my bills.

Any one have a place or know of someone that does?

    Other preferences:

    Fenced yard

    W/D in the unit

    Full Bath

    Need a place between 4.1 – 4.15.

Currently using CL as my only rental resource.

    Thank you!

Jo, pray tell me what your fears are about Obama. I haven’t heard any from anyone that make any sense. I worry not at all about his experience, his religion, his imaginary repressed anger and hatred, nor his loyalty to the party.

In that speech yesterday, he said he understood both the pastor’s anger and white anger, but that he thought them both perhaps misplaced and not the solution. The insight and courage in that speech–and the wisdom–are startling, if you really listen.

How many times have we heard politicians talk about race but essentially use it to pander to either side, talk in extremes and shame/blame, and fail to create any meaningful understanding? He called for harmony and for solutions that work for *all* Americans. Beyond cool!

And yesterday, he showed himself to be a statesman. He made Hillary look like the politician that she has regrettably become (though I suspect she wasn’t always that way). I’ve had enough of politicians…I want a statesman, like we had in the American past. Like FDR. Like RFK.

He’s a rare breed and a gem that the party would be foolish not to let shine.

Whoa, I’m just miserable. Taking my allergy medicine, too.

I also live on Alki (lots of Cedar trees here).

My eyes are stinging, throat is dry, nose running, and also feel flu-like. I felt like this yesterday, too, but today is worse.

I almost always get sick (bronchitis) due to allergies late March, early May, so it is a little early.

And, I’ve been praying for spring!

the reason that Clinton, Obama and the good Reverend Wright are getting all the attention right now is that a lot of people care…

right now, very few Republicans actually care about McCain…

that clip is why i made the lieberman joke.

it seems to me that where the right wing media is concerned .. you have a double standard…

When it is Hillary … you are not so stupid as to buy into the crap… even tho you have been hearing it for most of your adult life.. if not all of it.

when it is Obama.. we are the targets of the right wing media.. buying their line…

You believe it so strongly as to accuse us of the worst kind of bigotry.

    Big double standard!

I am pretty sure i am not buying into secret fears about black people. But i can see how thinking that would make you feel better.

That doesn’t make it true… i can assure you i am not a bigot and i am getting tired of repeating that.

It might surprise you to learn that I was actually actively involved in the process of trying to integrate our society… most likely before you were born. i have lived in their neighborhoods… have volunteered in their social programs.. have attended their churches… have had serious relationships with black men and women … have lived what I believe…

I am pretty sure i am not buying into any racial fears… if i was, i think they might have surfaced long ago when i lived in one of the neighborhoods hit by riots in 1969 and was nearly killed for being a white pregnant chick… in spite of the fact that half the men on my porch that night knew all about the work i was doing in their community… work i continued to do.

I have had a lot of exposure to charismatic black men who chose politics as their way to make a mark in the world. One of those young men saved my life that night. Had he chosen to stay in politics.. i would vote for him without hesitation tomorrow.

I am not buying into fears of black men..

I am buying into my own personal fears about this black man.

Just wondering if anyone else is suffering from the seemingly early spring allergies this year? I’m sensitive to tree pollen and today is especially bad. I live on Alki and my eyes are stingingly itchy today and I have flu like symptoms. Anyhoo, misery loves company, so if you’re affected, share, lol. Hope this allergy season passes quickly!

I realize this is somewhat off topic but I agree with all the disappointing experiences at Endolyne Joes. I have eaten their 4 times and yet to be pleasantly surprised or redeemed. I have given up on this eatery. I tried a variety of offerings and everything fell short of my expectations.

I like the Italian scramble or hobo. I haven’t been there for a while for breakfast so that could be an inaccurate name for the menu item. I would drink one of their milkshakes every day too if I could get away with it!!! And I love listening to the oldies tunes.

Okay, it’s not exactly closeby – but boy, it sure is fun! My dog could not stop hunting for the plastic treat-filled eggs last year.
