It’s something we never expected to find ourselves involved in, but it’s become one of the most heartening parts of the gig. Thanks for your post and let me add a shout-out to community members who I know make a habit of checking the page to see if they can help make connections (like the ones who looked at the “Found Chicken” post a few days ago and immediately recognized “Lost Chicken” Fritz from more than a few days earlier).

Sometimes the lost AND found posts for the same pet wind up in our mailbox simultaneously, so we get them connected without the posts ever having turned up on the site. And recently, there was another case in which we wound up making connections off-site … someone sent a note about a cat killed on the road, and before I posted it, we heard from what was obviously the cat’s owner, so I had to break the news to her directly. She said she was thankful to at least know what happened. Then I heard directly from the driver who had hit her cat, and when I told that person that we’d received a note from someone else AND the owner, the driver wanted to send the cat’s owner a message, which we forwarded … and then we were asked to forward a reply.

The Internet gets a bad rap for a lot but we try to maximize its connection for good when we can.

I had some success a few years ago during the pre_4th nonsense in gatewood..I located the actual address of the fireworks(being set off during the day and sending my 80 lb dog into a very bad state). It was two blocks away. I stood on their front walk and shouted that it was not legal and needed to stop. They immediately set off another, so on my run back home I gave the address to several people who were out and asked them to join me in calling it in. It stopped that day. You will get best results if you have the actual address and neighbors who will also call in. Best of luck.

I think until the State of Washington gets serious about promoting and ensuring save driving practices with stricter initial and recurrent testing, we’ll just see drivers using their 3000 lbs lethal weapon as a “right” as opposed to a privilege that requires skills. Maybe find some funding for more red light cameras to engineer our behavior? It’s funny, I think more people complain about the cameras than our dangerous driving habits.

Seattle Scofflows: While I commend you on your efforts to shine a mirror on our driving habits, I think it’s just as self serving to post material but not have any interaction by refusing to read the responses. i.e., you’re just shoveling anger at us. If you’re really interested in solving problems, you might consider a dialogue instead of rants.

To whoever the inconsiderate neighbors are in Arbor Heights who keep setting off huge booming fireworks on every score, every game, every weekend of the Seahawks season, PLEASE KNOCK IT OFF!!!

My dog is terrified of these fireworks and his fear is just getting worse each weekend. Last night he was so terrified that he squeezed himself through a space under the porch and got himself stuck and unable to get back out. Probably needless to say I did not enjoy the process of getting him out from there. It is really a sad sight to see a 120 lb Akita cowering in fear after squeezing himself through an 8″ gap to hide. I really don’t know what kind of painful acrobatics he must have employed to actually get through there, and it was obviously something he couldn’t do again to get back out.

Look, I’m a HUGE Seahawks fan. I have enough Seahawks gear to dress in green and blue all week long. I have 12th Man flags. I dress my daughter and myself up every Blue Friday and every game day. However, I do my best to celebrate without scaring the crap out of every dog and veteran and baby in the neighborhood. Can whoever you are please please PLEASE do the same?

So, beyond just ranting.. what can be done? Does anyone know these people personally that can maybe grab their fireworks and throw them in a bathtub full of water? I know the police aren’t going to do anything. I personally don’t want to confront a drunk neighbor at the time it happens for fear of being assaulted, but at least that might get the police to respond. Any ideas? I’m thinking maybe flyers around the neighborhood and talking to all the neighbors I know, but I’m really at a loss beyond that. The bottom line is I, my family, and my dog cannot go on line this much longer. It is seriously disturbing us and is making me no longer enjoy game day. :( For the love of Seahawks, please stop?

what makes you assume this is a hottie problem?
    I am
    67 years old
    grey
    5’6″ 167lbs
still recovering from my second major abdominal surgery in 6 months so i walk like a penguin and my stomach would make St Nick proud.
I can’t wear pants so right now to stay warm my skirts are to the ground and I can’t wear heels so those are grandma shoes poking out from under that skirt
I can’t wear make-up or hair product so my look is about as natural and weathered as it gets

my hubby still thinks i am a hottie but i am guessing i would have a difficult time finding 10 guys who agreed with him.. unless of course you count friends who think i am a hottie no matter how i look.

Harassment is not a hottie problem.. it’s a female problem.
As long as you have the right equipment.. apparently in any configuration… even the virtual unknown… you are a target.

dobro…on other social media, I ask for links to indictments, trials (the interwebs missed them, I guess), convictions. It’s gotta be links to the real thing, straight out. Otherwise, they have nothing, and 5 bucks with that will get them something at Starbucks. Tired of innuendo, opinions that are not fact. If they tell me to research, myself, that’s an open admission that they have nothing. Most do that, or hand me something from Breitbart, etc. that is pure conjecture. Otherwise, I just tell them to STFU. And I usually block them. And if they throw “Killary” at me, automatic block. I suppose that if it was on the interwebs, to them it must be true. And, of course, you always get back “It’s a conspiracy, and the truth is not on the interwebs, but my source is right” Hah!

Stephen Colbert had a great opening Monday night. Jump to about the 3:00 mark…and it’s almost NSFW. And I know some will be offended…but it’s all pretty funny.

Redblack, Thank you for your learned comments. Of course we cannot commend you personally because you are anonymous. I do not think you would speak to me in person with the same tone as you have written. You are probably to PC to do so.

Redblack and Skeeter fail to realize that increased value of property does not mean increased revenue to the property owner unless they sell the property. 13.5 % increase in 2016 coupled with an expected 20 % increase in 2017 can be very hard for anyone to budget working for wages or on a fixed income. People will be priced out of their homes. Some will end up on the street under I-5 in the jungle.

JanS, Blog or rant; I do not know. I was just trying to have a discussion about what I see as our cost of living getting out of control and local government wasting funds involved in projects where basically we are throwing good money to bad investments. Mean while we are ignoring our roads, education, creating traffic nightmares, harboring criminals while telling the police that they are cruel.

Joanne Brayden, Thank you for using your real name and understanding that landlords need to recover costs. Most renters think they do not have to pay when they vote for another initiative to be paid for by property taxes. You have the picture.

dhg, I have worked around gay people all my life. I have no problem. I just do not care to have their life philosophy thrown in our face daily by a mayor who is fully concentrating on that segment of life and ignoring other more important problems. Do not tell us that the emphasis on the Gay community by the City of Seattle has cost nothing. Seafair is a big money maker for the city.

To all: The best fuel economy from today’s cars is at 40-45 miles per hour. Installing Bus Bulbs, going from 4 lanes to two, reducing speed limits from 35 MPH to 25 MPH is an environmental problem. In addition, if one expands the Lead Time between two points, one expands the Work in Progress. Meaning the longer it takes to get from A to B the more cars will be on the road at any given point in time. So we are polluting the air and we creating traffic nightmares and destroying commerce.
