Seattle ScofflawsParticipantI know it’s a short video but you can see the violation plain as day. This happens all too often and SPD can’t or wont enforce red light runners at this and other locations. When I’m first at this intersection on Oregon, I wait and LOOK after my light turns green. You should too. If I would have gone when my light turned green, there would have been an accident.
I’ve also asked Seattle DOT to help and it’s always the same story, “doesn’t meet criteria”. Or I never hear back from them. Newer blue Ford F150. Washington plate C1***6F with tabs expiring in December.

schwaggyParticipant@JanS – the red light is the signal next to the green one. You can’t see the red because of the angle but it’s red. I see this every day too and there’s going to be a nasty t-bone here at some point. It’s a loooong intersection making it more complicated for today’s distracted drivers to notice there’s even a signal. I too have called SDOT with the same response as the OP. Redonk.

Seattle ScofflawsParticipantThanks Schwaggy. The city is somethin’ else, huh? This is in part why I’ve chosen to do what I do.
As I said in another thread, I decided in the beginning to not read comments (or reply). I made an exception recently but I don’t think I will do that in the future. What I was afraid would happen, has happened. People are more critical of me than the illegal behavior and lack of city enforcement/improvements. I’m trying to be proactive and shed light on mostly dangerous, life altering things that the city is ignoring and that citizens are getting away with on a massive scale. The city would rather be reactive and only act once enough accidents have happened.

TanDLParticipantI have used that intersection regularly since 1985 and it has always been dangerous. Can’t even begin to count the times I’ve seen people run the red light while zipping down Fauntleroy and I have always been cautious before exiting Oregon Street. More than a few times I’ve seen people run that light after it has been changed for several seconds and cars have already exited Oregon. I’ve observed slamming brakes and honking horns, one with an unmistakable gesture. Perhaps the light needs to be more prominently displayed – larger or maybe with lots of bright yellow around it. Clearly something has been amiss there for a long time and I’m betting that there’s more at work here than just drivers trying to get away with something.

22bladesParticipantI think until the State of Washington gets serious about promoting and ensuring save driving practices with stricter initial and recurrent testing, we’ll just see drivers using their 3000 lbs lethal weapon as a “right” as opposed to a privilege that requires skills. Maybe find some funding for more red light cameras to engineer our behavior? It’s funny, I think more people complain about the cameras than our dangerous driving habits.
Seattle Scofflows: While I commend you on your efforts to shine a mirror on our driving habits, I think it’s just as self serving to post material but not have any interaction by refusing to read the responses. i.e., you’re just shoveling anger at us. If you’re really interested in solving problems, you might consider a dialogue instead of rants.
