I’m not aware of a concrete proposal to enact changes with the current tree removal process… A tree group has put forth a proposal for the council to discuss in August but that to my knowledge isn’t something they’ve directly endorsed. As is, you don’t need a permit unless it’s exceptional, it’s on public land (parking strip) or on an environmentally critical area (e.g. at risk of landslide). That all seems reasonable. We also don’t know if the final recommendation will allow offsetting the tree cutting by planting elsewhere or if anything will be enacted at all.

Do you miss our PCC as much as I do? The only good thing about the tear down was that it forced me to drive to the Columbia City store, which in my opinion is the best PCC ever. Interesting layout and great feel. Lots of window light. First rate butcher/seafood counter and truly awesome deli and hot food. Made to order burritos, tacos and smoothies. And many of the same friendly staff we used to see in WS. It’s everything I’d want our reborn PCC to be.

I recently make the trek down to Burien to see their new PCC. I wasn’t expecting a lot given it’s strip mall location, but came away truly depressed. It felt to me like the equivalent of one of those cookie-cutter multi-story box apartments that are popping up all over Alki and Admiral. And no butcher counter. Here’s the bad part: I’ve heard from multiple sources that this will be the template for our reborn store! Tell me it isn’t so! Has PCC lost its soul?

It may be too late, but if you care about this I’d urge you to visit both stores and let PCC know what you’d prefer: https://www.pccmarkets.com/contact-us/

    Hi,

I recently moved to the neighborhood in the Pigeon Point area. I have been roaming on this blog since and thought I’d contribute.

Yesterday in my neighborhood there was a man going door to door selling magazines for “charity.” Long story short, he claimed that he was selling magazines to support his daughter back home and trying to get out of the street life. He specifically asked for cash or check. After I said I don’t have either, he was aggressive saying you can go to the ATM right now. At this point he handed me a would be receipt for a 3 year subscription that would cost $180. I had no intention of giving this man any money, but took the information and quickly Googled the info and his name. His name checked out and address he provided seem to go to a business suite or a home where this “company” is lodging him, 2734 Montlake Blvd, Seattle, WA 98112. The “company” is Optimal Magazine (https://optimumreadersservices.com/). Just wanted to warn people about the risks.

Remember that if you hand over a check your account number, routing number, name, and address are on the check.

I Googled these types of magazine door to door sales and found a lot of things in common with their stories. I even saw a lot of past articles on this blog regarding door to door magazine sales:
