Betty! I see you’re pretty new here. I am so glad you could join our West Seattle community. I can’t wait to read your reviews of our local restaurants and I’d love to work with you to help some of our local residents in need. I am sure you will agree that it takes a village. Perhaps we could get a group together to discuss your thoughts over coffee. Although I don’t agree with you I am sure we could have a spirited and civil discussion and not hide behind a keyboard. I suspect you might even be a guy – that’s ok (transgender works as well – I have no issue with that). What’s your favorite local coffee shop? I’ll buy!

    good heavens..
and the Kardashians are a nice middle American family
and those duck dynasty guys. the real deal
and let’s not forget honey boo boo and her wonderful mom’s boyfriends
or that nice Mormon family who thinks that sons who fondle their sisters and their friends should get religious counseling and get on with being rewarded for being male

since reality is currently defined by made for television plotlines that would make any good soap opera producer wonder whether America would buy them ..

it’s not wonder some people have difficulty defining reality.

    follow the money honey
and when you do so you find that behind activist facts
    lie these folks

    Home

    hmmmmm

and since when is exposing media bias… known in common vernacular as lies lies and more damn lies … a bad thing?

don’t you want to know when you are being lied to and manipulated?

you should. if you don’t challenge everything you hear.. especially if you believe in it..you will soon find that your only justification for your opinions is “he said so”… shaky ground at best.

but back to the subject at hand..

    fair enough.

but i would like to address the topic… if it pleases the court, of course.

a previous post in this thread listed “news” organizations in a left-right/liberal-conservative order in terms of following the money, who owns what, how they are perceived, political agenda, etc. i found the list a little naïve, but i understand the perception.

most glaring to me, though, was the omission of c-span in that list. imho, c-span should be dead center in terms of american political news bent, advertising funding (0%), and the political influence that ad money purchases.

and no one can deny their 24/7 dedication to journaling what happens in american government.

if i recall correctly, c-span is still funded by $.01 on every cable and satellite bill issued in the u.s. that seems about right to me as a funding model.

the ubiquitous laissez-faire media (and PBS has been creeping that way for decades) is way more expensive, way more biased, and it largely looks like a vehicle for weird pharma and car advertising.

no, c-span isn’t sexy. while it listens to and broadcasts average americans’ political views through call-ins, it really is indifferent to political persuasion and sensationalist corporate editorials.

You are greatly misinformed. I am not enamored of Hillary but compared to the guy who says “Why not use nukes?”, I’m becoming enamored. Truth and trustworthiness does seem to be in short supply for both sides but the misogyny and racism of Trump, coupled with a Pence “send gays back to the closet” makes this election easy to decide on.

Her email issue, by the by, is a non issue. Beloved Republican Colin Powell did the same thing and he is not getting blasted for it. So, draw up some papers indicting some Republicans and then talk about integrity. You can start with how their beloved R Reagan bargained with the Iranians to continue holding the American hostages until Ronnie got into office. That is high treason.

I will “help” you by suggesting you remember that we live in the United States of American, and in the United States of America NO ONE is “criminal” or a “felon” unless and until they have been indicted in criminal court, tried by a jury of their peers, and found guilty.

Oh how poetic.. The Democratic party Nominates a true Criminal for the Presidency. It is just another classic example of Left-ism / Progressive-ism where the ONLY thing that is important is the advancement of the Ideology over such trivial things like Honesty & Integrity, Trustworthiness, Good Judgment, Self Respect, Women’s & Victim’s Rights etc… On and On.
I am not sure which of her Crimes are the Most Disgusting..? Really ? Please help me…
Is it the “Non-Profit” Clinton Foundation where they pose as a “Charity ” and ” take ” donations for those that need it the MOST but pocket ( .90 Cents ) out of Every ( $1.00 ). Which sadly is the Oldest trick in the Book. Yes, The “Non-Profit” Clinton Foundation is on the United Nation’s Charity Watchlist for “Sketchy” Charities along with Former FBI Informant Al Sharpton’s Charity. NICE..!
    Or
Could it be the way Hillary Intentionally & systematically Trashed the reputations of the Multitudes of women that her Husband abused during his Presidency ?
Yup.. She is fighting for you !
    Or
Selling Political favors via the Clinton Foundation in the form of Suddenly being offered Double and Triple + the typical and long standing Speaking fees predator Bill would get for a speech in a Country that Just So Happen to be requesting ” Something ” from Sir Hillary.
    Or
Intentionally ( Oop’s I’m Sorry.. Accidentally ? ) Deleting 30,000 Emails from her server after being subpoenaed by the FBI.
    Or
Straight up Lying to the Faces of the Families of those that were lost in Benghazi and then Lying about Lying.
She is truly the most Disgusting person EVER to run for any office outside of Bernie Sander’s Soviet Union.
But, I would expect nothing less from the Modern Democratic Party. A Party that had to be reminded and Pressured to fly the American Flag at there convention after 3 days of nothing but ( 1 ) Palestinian and Soviet Flag being waved vigorously.
Yes, The same party that supports “Black Lives matter” a group that has chanted many times ” We want Dead cops now ” and ” Cops should Fry like bacon ” just to name a few. Yet sit silently by ( Except for Spike Lee ) and watch Far More Innocent Black people ( Thousands of Women & Children ) die in the slaughter of Chicago than the IRAQ war. ” Silence …SHHHHH it doesn’t fit our agenda ”
Thank you Democrats for exposing your sick Ideology but this time …. Oh So Spectacularly !!!!

2015 was the warmest year on record. Climate change is happening faster than predicted. People who want to claim otherwise are either on the corporate payroll (keep that coal rollin’!) or are delusional.

Within the foreseeable future climate model tuning will continue to be necessary as the prospects of constraining the relevant unresolved processes with sufficient precision are not good.

    MODELS UNROBBED

    EXPLAINING THE TRICK

The claim is made that the past temperature data has certain flaws that lower global warming predictions. Then it is said if those flaws are applied against the temperature data used in the models — then suddenly, the predictions of the models lower to match the predictions of the past flawed temperature data.

The conclusion drawn, being that only if you deliberately apply flaws to the models do they predict wrongly.

The first trick is that the models have totally different flaws than the supposed flaws in the temperature data. The models are assumed to be perfect and their flaws and failure to mimic reality are not addressed.

The second trick is that when you blow off their BS, what the author’s are really saying is that the temperature data they use in their models is correct — and the measured real world temperature data is incorrect and must be altered to match the temperature data already being used in the models. In other words, real world data must be altered so that when it is plugged into the models it gives the modelers the answers they want. The models are perfect — it is the real world data that is wrong. ( That, of course, is the main pillar of AGENDA climate science — the real world data is wrong. )

There is absolutely no proof here that the climate models are correct. There is plenty of proof that the people who wrote the below two papers are grifters.

    IF YOU CAN’T CONVINCE

    CONFUSE

It’s almost funny. But it will get funnier when they discover that the models are seriously flawed. They are, because they have a much too high climate forcing by CO2 built in. So, when they discover the error they will be faced with this dilemma : how to re-adjust the now adjusted earlier adjustments. It will come straight out of a Monty Python script. It seems to me that they are continuing to operate under the same flawed assumption that has plagued this whole subject from the start – namely that all you have to do in order to accurately project climate in the future is retroactively tweak climate models to fit the past. While that might work in some more confined scientific disciplines, I do not see how it can achieve the accuracy claimed for a system as complex and chaotic as the Earth’s climate – about which we are still largely in the dark and figuratively grasping at straws.

Yes, dogs can be a meal source too. Small and even medium size dogs are at the greatest risk, but don’t think they won’t attack a larger dog they perceive as weak or is invading their territory especially if young are present.

Healthy or sick the coyote is adaptive when looking at something as a food source. Normal prey, seeds, nuts, fruits and berries, cats/dogs/the food you put out for them, your bunnies…They are scavengers and will eat just about anything. Coyotes are smart too. They will hunt as individuals, in pairs or as a family unit.

There is some good information out there. Here are some sites to get you started.

As always, knowledge is the most important thing for living successfully with wild animals especially in an urbanized environment. No reason to fear the coyote, but respecting it would be in yours, your animals and the coyote’s best interest.

To JanS: All I can say is that my parents did it when I was younger, they will have to do it again after 43 years in their home, and I’ve done it twice. I’m extremely fortunate to be able to live here since ’93, but the reality is that I will have to leave eventually. So what? I’m truly sorry that you sound like you are closer to having to leave than I am, but it’s an eventuality for everyone until the market corrects. There’s plenty of places with lower housing costs, but unfortunately, they aren’t right here in our West Seattle neighborhood. (Although there are big differences depending on where you choose to live in WS)

The Youth Tutoring Program needs caring and dedicated volunteers like you to be mentors and tutors for students living in West Seattle’s low and mixed-income housing community, High Point.

YTP serves a diverse group of students, many who come from immigrant and refugee families.

Not only do we train our volunteers to be effective tutors, we provide our volunteers with the tools (such as individualized tutor plans and skill-building activities) so that you have what you need to make a difference!

    Details

The High Point tutoring center is open the following times:
Mondays and Wednesdays for three sessions each: 4:20-5:20, 5:30-6:30, and 6:40-7:40.
Tuesdays and Thursdays for two sessions each: 5:30-6:30 and 6:40-7:40pm.

Volunteers sign up for two hours per week, and are asked to commit to volunteering for six months.

The minimum age for volunteering is 14, and High School students are encouraged to volunteer!

I voted no. I know that this levy will pass based on all the endorsements it’s gotten so my vote is really just a small protest. The Seattle Times endorsement starts off by talking about all the ways this levy is messed up and how levy-happy Mayor Murray is, but then turns around and says to vote for it. Sigh. The Stranger doesn’t barely mention the problems with the levy and enthusiastically endorses it. I voted no because I want to challenge this city to solve this problem in a way that doesn’t further burden Seattle homeowners (and indirectly, renters) with higher property taxes. It makes no sense to me to try to make housing more affordable by taxing homeowners more. I want to challenge this city to be transparent and accountable for the money they have to spend. I want the city to stand up to developers and make them contribute more to solving housing affordability. This city has already missed out on a huge housing boom that could have supplied more affordable housing and money for affordable housing through fees, but instead they just built a bunch of high-priced luxury condos and high-priced micro housing. I want a more progressive tax system including a state income tax in a state where our biggest cities have a wealth of high income earners. Yes, housing affordability is a major issue here and homelessness is in crisis mode. However, I think this levy is too expensive, taxes homeowners who are already over-taxed, and doesn’t show a clear plan for how the money will solve the actual problems and show accountability for the results. If the city, county, and/or state can come up with a better plan then I will reconsider.

Howdy guys and gals… Wowzers, such a warm welcome! What a nifty community this is. I’ve been traveling our fine country for nearly 2 weeks with the kiddos visiting national parks. Nothing like family time (though my kids may seriously be half-wits, as it turns out).

Driving up Admirable Way I thought to myself… I’m home. Thank you neighbors for making me feel desired. Nothing beats that, right?!

Being from a very rural small town in Missouri it’s just wonderful to have such a selection of things to do. Yesterday I found a little swimming hole in Camp Long (turns out it’s not for swimming according to people shouting at me and Chip Jr). And, there is a store that sells just cupcakes! How nifty is that!? I also took the kiddos to the farmers market which I thought was okay. A lot of walking.

Holy cow! No mosquitos here, either! My bedroom windows have no screens on them. My landlord assured me I don’t need them since there aren’t many bugs, though he has changed his mind and now wants me to close the windows due the noises I make at night! Haha.

Thanks again again for the nice welcome. I will invite you all to my house warming. Stay tuned, my neighbors.

    God bless,

    Chip L.
