And not only are the treats tasty – I love the frosting too – but they host live music on weekends evenings (Friday I think). I haven’t had a chance lately to go listen, but it was such a comfortable, low-key evening venue. Many nice evenings spent there. It was free, btw. Hoping that is still the case.

They did my wedding cake about 2 years ago. At the time, the price was super competitive (or better) with the other places we contacted. They had such a lovely cake tasting for us and were so well organized and extremely professional. We received many raves about the cake itself from our guests. I have always enjoyed going there and they have great day old treats for only 50 cents!

I don’t smoke. I don’t minimize the danger of smoking. I corrected your 30 feet crap and you proceeded to misquote me, with quite a bit of disdain and disgust. You obviously read the link I DID quote from, cuz you used material from it to keep arguing.

You can’t seem to process that not a single person thinks smoking or second hand smoke is safe. That no one thinks you should force it upon others. No one thinks you should have to pass through it to gain entrance to a building. I should say, no one here.

Based on that, we don’t get why so many of you are so pissed off. The only thing remotely advocated was the concept of walking around an offensive activity when possible, and get on with your life.

When you prefer to scream “who the hell are you to blah, blah, blah”, it does indeed sound like a big arrogant hissy fit. I never once suggested I should be allowed to tell you what is a tolerable level of toxins. You made that up all by yourself and I have certainly lost all respect of you personally and professionally after the way you’ve treated me and everyone else in this thread who dared to disagree.

Lecturing on how you put no merit in a forum discussion but we’re all supposed to honor your information. You’ve made it beyond clear that you don’t care about my or anyone else’s thoughts, but I obviously have a big mouth and plan to share my experience.

I just hauled a pile of scrap project wood out to the curb at the intersection of 39th SW and SW Holly. There’s some decent stuff in usable sizes in there – I’ll never get around to using it and I need the space.

Smitty–Amen brother! Could not have said it better myself. I think it has become so enjoyable to watch the dogs lose because they are so ridiculous every two years when they actually do win a game. I’ve become a huge Duck, Trojan and Coug fan so I can cheer against the dogs. Can’t wait for the Oregon and WSU games this year!

Well…I would never be an “in your face” obnoxious Husky fan, like some USC fans. Yes, JoB, it’s just football. I really could care less if people knock the Huskies, I’m still a fan. I know they’ve had shortcomings the last couple of years, with terrible coaching, etc. That IS turning around, and wil only get better.USC is USC…but to use an excuse for losing to the “lowly” Huskies like..well, it was the second string…that’s just an excuse. That second string needs to step up to the plate.

They lost yesterday, but ask around..it was an exciting game if you’re a college football fan. The Huskies lost 3 players during the game, but you didn’t hear excuses. They just said they missed opportunities, and the QB blamed himself personally. Again, no excuses. So, dig all you want, Ms. Nan, but try a teensy bit to be a gracious fan, too. No excuses.

Smitty…good to hear from you..knew you couldn’t be far behind :) And let’s hope that Barkley stays healthy, huh…so they don’t have to make more excuses for losing ;-)

Funny but the parking lot that WAS there (for Petco and Curious Kidstuff patrons) probably didnt allow any parking in their lot either if you were going to patronize Rocksport or get your nails done.

Hard-to-find parking is the main reason I never head over to Capitol Hill – the lack of parking there makes West Seattle seem like parking is endless over here.

wow…it’s a game, for goodness sake. And frankly, the Cougs can’t buy a win these days, so let’s not dump too much on the home team.

But I see you’re a trojan fan…so now I get it. They lost only because they had an injury. So by that same token, the Huskies lost today only because they had a myriad of injuries? The Trojans are a one man operation? Oh, please. They couldn’t suck it up and win with their second string QB? What if their starter was out for the season…does that mean they’d lose all the rest of the games? Of course not. They shouldn’t have to use that excuse for losing…”well, it was ONLY our 2nd string QB, so of course we lost”…what? the rest of the team just couldn’t do it? I think you get my drift.

Now, if the Trojans lost the next 10 games, would you still be a fan? Or are you just fair weather. So don’t knock us Husky fans too hard…mmmmok?

Agreed! C2aT rocks. They were able to put out a pirate themed set of cupcakes for my kid’s first birthday party that were fun for the older kids and tasted GREAT to the adults.

You should know that they do (did) three sizes of cupcakes! Large for the BD kid, regular and minis for the crowd.

As a parent, I also appreciate that they have hired a local mom to come hang out and clean the toys in the back. It’s not fancy, but the kids are comfortable, the parents congregate in the back area, and the toys are CLEAN. Hooray!

I absolutely love this place. The coffee and cupcakes are great and the baristas always make me feel welcome. Plus the kid area offers a great escape for my toddler when it’s blustery outside.

Literally spent my entire afternoon there. They NEVER rush you (even while they’re closing) and the cupcakes are amazing. The coffee/tea/italian sodas/hot chocolate AND chai are all to die for. Love the baristas…

Psst… It’s “Coffee to a Tea with Sugar.” Yes, their cupcakes are good, and they do an excellent job frosting them. I also like that they can serve wine! :-) That said, I still stick to my Cupcake Royale when I get the (1-2x/year) craving. I worked there when it first opened and gotta stay loyal to Ms. Jody Hall.

I’m not a “sweets” person, but was looking for a small dessert treat for a special night. A friend recommended the mini-cupcakes at Sugar to a Tea and OMG they were little bites of heaven. Not the bland things you get at other places around town… The cake was moist and tasty, and the butter cream frosting on top was to die for. I can’t wait for another special occasion :)

You may already know this, but the city will cut up and stack the untreated cedar telephone poles they’re taking down. If you know of a pole being replaced, the city crew will stack it up for you so you can pick it up later.

Around 400,000 Americans die annually from cigarette smoking making it the leading cause of preventable death. About 50,000 of those are non-smokers who die from secondhand smoke exposure. I guess those folks are just whiners who shouldn’t complain because there are other sources of air pollution which apparently makes cigarette smoke OK.

Each day an estimated 1,100 teens become regular, daily smokers. Between one-third and one-half will eventually die of this addiction. Around the world about 5.4 million people are killed by tobacco smoke every year. According to the WHO, a current or former smoker dies every 6.5 seconds. In China about 2,000 people a day die from smoking. The WHO estimates that smoking will kill more than 8 million people annually by 2030. Tobacco use will kill 1 billion people in the 21st Century if current trends continue.

A dying demographic to be sure.

The California Air Resrouces Board did a study in 2006 in which they measured random outdoor tobacco smoke concentrations outside airports, on college campuses, in government centers, office complexes and amusement parks. Their conclusions were that in these “typical outdoor locations, Californians may be exposed to OTS levels as high as indoor concentrations.”

Some here dismiss the significance of walking through a cloud of smoke for a few seconds if you pass, say, Shadowland on a given night. But if you spend any amount of time walking around this city it is likely not the only time in the course of a day that you will walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke. As indoor smoking bans have moved cigarette smoking onto the street it is nearly impossible to walk into any building (airport, courthouse, hospital, office building) without breathing sidestream smoke with toxic chemicals in much higher concentrations than other sources of pollution in the ambient air. I expect that is why there has been an increase in legislation regulating cigarette smoke in outdoor spaces.

WSMom – Jan’s is apparently only great if you know the women working there. I stopped in a few weeks ago after work, prepared to spend about $100 on several items, but was ignored while I was there in favor of other customers that came in that the employees apparently knew pretty well. The last straw was when I was waiting to be rung up and the older woman working seriously passed me up to ring up the male hairstylist behind me. It was ridiculous, and blatantly rude for no reason. I put my items down and left.
