Okay, here’s another line of thought; does anyone have this issue anywhere else, in West Seattle or elsewhere?

I’m trying to think of various, possible commonalities if so.

In this area we have an espresso joint, that presumably has Wi-Fi, and elementary school that likely has Wi-Fi, and undoubtedly has an up-to-date security system, a doggie daycare, several condo/apt buildings, cell towers, and surrounded on two sides by large hills, and on one side in line of sight of water.

Perhaps the dogs, bothered by the a high-pitched sound from the remotes that we are unable to hear have devised a jammer? (Although that would likely require the assistance of cats).

But seriously, maybe the more tech-savvy folks that know the differences and commonalities of various radio related stuff could take this brainstorming further?

The Moog Satellite is an odd, kind of obscure little synth from the mid-70s. While it can come up with some great, unique sounds, it also seems somewhat limited. I have owned this thing for a long time, and never really used it that much. I think it is time to part with it, hopefully someone will get more use out of it than I did.

It is in decent shape, check the pics – you will see of of course it has a broken key (still works fine), a small ding in the wood, minor knicks and such, and it is missing the back “Level Adjust” knob. All of the slider knobs were missing, so I just recently installed white LEGOs for slider knobs… used hot glue and it seems to work pretty well…

Everything electronically seems ok – Sliders all work, both back knobs and every front switch works, and both Hi/Lo outputs work. It is old, so it has quirks, but hey that is part of the charm…

Anyways, I am no expert on this thing, but if you have more questions, feel free to ask…

    Thanks :)

‘Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose’ loosely translates to ‘The more things change, the more memes miws will choose.’ ‘Miws’ is really a French word meaning ‘the creative one’; while it does not formally appear in the above sentence, it is understood to be there as ‘the creative one’ is everywhere. It is often translated phonetically to ‘Muse’ and also to ‘amuse’ or ‘amusing’. In Olde English, it is spelled ‘mews’ and has three meanings: 1) the sounds a kitten makes; 2) a secret place or hideaway; and 3) a group of buildings originally used as stables. Obviously, cats hid in stables to have their kittens; in referencing West 5, the second definition applies. Thus, the meme created by miws was amusing in that it referred to a favorite mews for muses to hang out and eat mac and cheese. QED.

It all boils down to mental health period. Everyone worries about “peoples rights”, that we don’t see the threat right in front of our face. Some times people just snap and you never know when it is going to happen. Yes I know it is a very slippery slope.

    The gun was bought legally.

Thankfully some kids paid attention and something was prevented.

I may be a touch testy about this one

i live with a husband who will literally go off on a rant against religion in general and Christians in particular

forgetting entirely that his entirely sane and reasonably intelligent wife who is sitting right across from him avows Christianity.

these are the moments marriages are made of ;->

wake .. being taught religion and having faith are not necessarily the same experience.

My early experiences in more than one church taught me that i want little to do with organized religion …

although i have pretty much rejected church, my faith survived every challenge i created.. and has only grown stronger with the years…

your faith if you held it wouldn’t necessarily be the same experience as mine…

in fact.. i believe each person’s perception of faith is unique to that individual .

faith is what you swim in..

with or without the trappings of religion :)

if what you feel does not feel like faith to you.. then it probably isn’t

“It doesn’t matter if you think God is a sea serpent who likes root beer floats and hates Thomas Hardy novels as long as you don’t impose that belief on anyone in the public square.”

but it’s ok to pose the belief that there is no god in the public square .. because that is not somehow imposing your beliefs on others?

there we go again with that pesky sniff test ;)

As for examining faith.. i don’t believe you can do so with anything but your heart…

which makes faith an enduring mystery

VBD.. i will agree with you that few Christians have studied religion as assiduously as those who want to prove them wrong… ;-0

    sorry.. couldn’t resist :)))

pango.. thanks.. for the most part i am pretty sure i am a nice person …. i know i care a great deal about my fellow man and i think that is the qualifying characteristic of nice ;-)

and i agree with you.. i too could care less what anyone else chooses to believe..

    datamuse…

since there is no way to prove the existence or non-existence of any God.. then one’s position on the subject has to be one of personal belief.. doesn’t it?

    ****

i find myself most in tune with agnostics who say there is simply no way to empirically prove whether or not God(s) exist…

    For myself, I don’t need proof…

    that’s what i call faith

JoB, you wrote: :…i believe that faith can not be evaluated using science as evidence.”

To which I ask, based on what underlying assumptions?. Are any other human personality traits off limits for science to pursue? Or just that one? Faith certainly has some significant impact on our world, does it not…? Why do you believe it’s impenetrable by scientific pursuit?

If you don’t believe that it can be examined at all, obviously the conversation stops. (Which I would lament.)

However, if studying the concept of faith is something you’re willing to ponder, then my book recommendation speaks directly to it.

You can easily induce vomiting in a dog within minutes using hydrogen peroxide. Check your dogs individual dose level requirements on the internet. Obviously the required amount for inducing vomiting in a labrador is much more than in a chihuahua.

Ignorance bespeaks lack of knowledge, not lack of intelligence.

And, hmm, is people who “have no faith telling people who believe that they don’t understand religion” anything at all like people who have faith telling people who don’t that they are actually adhering to a belief system, even though they claim they aren’t?

(I’m not sure what it means to “believe in” religion, either. Religions obviously exist. A major Christian denomination pays my salary. That’s pretty real.)

I am selling my Canon Eos Rebel XTi/400D 10.1 MP Digital SLR Camera. It works perfectly, it is just too big of a camera for me and I do not use it anymore. I bought it in 2007 and it has been lightly used since then. I recently had the camera and lenses professionally cleaned. It also comes with:

    – Instruction Manual, Software Instruction Manual and Solution Disk

    – Two EF18-55mm lenses. One has never been used.

    – One EF75-300mm zoom lens. Comes with box.

    – Lens cleaner solution and cloth

    – Five different lens filters, including:

Cross 6x (creates 6-sided star appearance in highlights)

Circular Polarizer (eliminates reflection and glare from glass or water)

Skylight 1A (protects lens from dust and scratches)

    UV Haze

MC UV- Multi Coated (provides lens protection and absorbs ultraviolet and blue rays)

    – Quaranty Digital 72-in-1 Hi Speed Card Reader, with instruction manual and driver (I purchased this because I lost the USB cord at some point)

    – HDMI Cord

    – Canon Remote Switch RS-60E3

    – Two extra batteries and charger

    – REI Mini Tripod

    – Camera bag and lens bag

$475 OBO. Let me know if you are interested, I am willing to make a deal! Email or text only. I will only accept cash.

I should also have noted that these markets (other than Uwajimaya) are generally not as sleek and modern as our primary markets. Shelves and refrigerated cases are probably second hand, and aisles can be narrow — an issue when the store is busy and you try to study the wide selection of unusual and unfamiliar items, which in many cases have minimal or no English labels. On the other hand, even staples such as green and red peppers and navel oranges are usually a good buy. Check out Lams on King St. east of the I5 underpass first. If you feel comfortable there, then check out some of the others. Let me know how you make out.

I have seen this several times and have one now that will require a complete reinstall. It is not obvious to most people but just makes the machine ultra slow to respond and on low power boxes can make the box freeze for long enough to think the power switch is the only option.

    FYI and reference link:

MS is going to End-OF-Life XP in April but it seems they have started early on the tormenting xp users usually scheduled for that process.

I KNOW some MS workers and managers read this blog and I hope someone is in a position to stop this stupidity.

I like Burien! I’d always rather go to that Trader Joe’s, the post office always has parking, and their little downtown area is cute. It’s a good place to visit when you need to run several different types of errands that are necessary but not fun.

That should be their city slogan. Heh.

Yeah, sounds like it was stripped.

It’s not to unusual for people to have a “quick-release” front hub, so they can pop the wheel off and take it with them, to at least prevent somebody from cutting the lock, and then riding the bike away.

Although, perhaps the owner of the bike had previously been a theft victim, perhaps even by a very skilled thief that was actually able to ride off on their bike minus the front wheel, and now they take even more extra precautions. ;-)

Hey all, we saw a very large mangy looking coyote on our block this morning around Noon. We live near 37th and Kenyon, quite far from a greenbelt. He emerged out of an alley way and was aimlessly walking in the street. Our understanding is that animal control does not respond to coyotes. Anyone know if this is correct? Just in case I wanted to notify people here.

I get the same reaction from people. I’m willing to drive anywhere that I need/want to get to, but to get people to come to West Seattle can be a challenge. And yet, with my energy work practice, most of my clients are NOT from West Seattle, and yet they come without problem time and time again. <shrug>

PangolinPie, we actually sound a lot alike – I’m an eccentric, liberal, 50 year old tie-dye wearing, alternative practitioner who kills time wandering the aisles of PCC when I’m bored. :) I’d love to get together sometime, as one can always use some more friends! Get in touch if you’d like at butterflybalance at gmail (and anyone else who’d like to join in).

I’ve lived here for about a year and a half now, and I have to say, I love W. Seattle. But it seems so hard to get my friends from other parts of town to drive out and visit. Is it just me? Seems like people see WS as a distant destination (and for those who don’t have cars and have to take a bus, I get how much of a hassle it can be to get here).

I wonder sometimes if I just need to make more friends out here…I sense that there are probably a lot of people like me here; 40s-50s, liberal, professional, maybe a little quirky/artsy/old hippie, whose idea of a good time is visiting a gallery or the farmer’s market, or just hanging out drinking wine, ordering a pizza and watching a movie. But it’s hard to meet folks, sometimes. Or, again, maybe it’s just me. Not looking for a relationship-type thing; that I have already — just some like-minded folks who want to chill without having to trek the apparently mind-blowing distance from the mainland. :)

Just a thought: as Benny is equally anxious/crying/miserable whether he is indoors or out, why not keep him in where he’s at least safe? In addition to the obvious dangers (cars, dogs, raccoons, coyotes, ferals, poison) there are a lot of people who are not cat lovers who might regard his behavior as a nuisance, and take action to deter – or eliminate – his visits. There must be a better solution than letting him roam this high risk area.

Mike and others recommended a cat run, which is a great idea. There is another thread on the WSB right now talking about MMJ for pets. Seriously, this sounds like a good idea as Benny has some obvious anxiety issues. Lena is a local holistic vet who posts on the WSB. She might have some suggestions for you. You sound like a caring cat mom, and I know you’ve tried a lot of things, but please don’t give up on trying safer options.

    #801480

Im sorry to hear about the loss of your kitty. Mine will turn 14 at the beginning of the year. Crazy how time flies.

I dont know if you know who I am but I run the Service Dog Academy. I have been teaching pet dog classes since 2008 here in West Seattle. Since 2009 I have been teaching diabetic alert and experimental alert dog classes. Im actually closing down my pet location at the end of the year to focus strictly on diabetic alert dog training.

Id definitely be interested in this meter. My dog is a trained diabetic alert dog who alerts to both low and high blood sugars. He has alerted on several occasions when I was in a normal range but I would swear he is picking up on my changes in my cat. The couple times this has happened has been right before she has had to go to the vet for a UTI. Usually what proceeds the UTI diagnosis is a reduction in daily food volume – which as you know can result in low blood sugars.

Obviously my cat doesnt have diabetes but it sure would be an interesting experiment to see if those strange alerts really do coincide with a low blood sugar for her.

Pam, no doubt you love Benny and are sincere, but I would nominate you for Typo (Freudian slip?) of the Year:

“His previous owners had to find a home for him because their new corgi had tried to kill me.”

I know you caught the typo, but I just wanted you to know I got a kick out of it.

Please tell Benny we wish him the very best.
