If your furry one is on the path of surviving diabetes, I want to help. Those blood tests at the vet are damn expensive, so I purchased an Alphatrak Blood Glucose Monitoring System. This one, in fact, normally over $100: http://www.amazon.com/AlphaTRAK-Blood-Glucose-Monitoring-System/dp/B007Z0XULY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386996444&sr=8-1&keywords=alphatrak

My cat, unfortunately, didn’t last long with this affliction. I’m hoping to help you and your cat or dog through the holiday season with a free monitor kit. It’s lightly used, still has more than 20 lancets and a bunch of test strips. No resellers. I want to see proof from a West Seattle vet that your animal has diabetes.

Thanks, WSB. And please say a little whatever-denominational high-five for the Big Black Cat Salem, whose remains will be interred when the ground thaws.

Im sorry to hear about the loss of your kitty. Mine will turn 14 at the beginning of the year. Crazy how time flies.

I dont know if you know who I am but I run the Service Dog Academy. I have been teaching pet dog classes since 2008 here in West Seattle. Since 2009 I have been teaching diabetic alert and experimental alert dog classes. Im actually closing down my pet location at the end of the year to focus strictly on diabetic alert dog training.

Id definitely be interested in this meter. My dog is a trained diabetic alert dog who alerts to both low and high blood sugars. He has alerted on several occasions when I was in a normal range but I would swear he is picking up on my changes in my cat. The couple times this has happened has been right before she has had to go to the vet for a UTI. Usually what proceeds the UTI diagnosis is a reduction in daily food volume – which as you know can result in low blood sugars.

Obviously my cat doesnt have diabetes but it sure would be an interesting experiment to see if those strange alerts really do coincide with a low blood sugar for her.
