Topic: Homeowner’s Insurance?
I’ve been unhappy with my homeowner’s insurance (Allstate) for quite some time. Recently, I found out that my agent had left West Seattle and unceremoniously dumped me on another agent in Issaquah, without notice. At the same time, I got my renewal bill – with a HUGE premium increase. Do any of you have a company or local agent that you highly recommend? It’s kind of a complicated policy, as I own through a land trust (the City of Seattle owns the land). Thanks in advance for any advice.

Dear West Seattle Neighbor,
Do you value nature in the city and want to protect habitat for our urban wildlife?
Do you think we need to do better here in Seattle, to acknowledge the indigenous land we reside on and to honor First Nations? There’s a project unfolding in West Seattle that could provide opportunities for both. As covered by WSB, WA State Ferries (WSF) needs to replace the 70-year-old Fauntleroy ferry terminal to maintain safe reliable ferry service between West Seattle, Vashon Island, and the Kitsap Peninsula and beyond. WSF has an online open house for folks to learn more about the project and share input on alternatives.
My wife and I live close to the Fauntleroy Ferry Dock, and we have a background in conservation and community development. There are lots of different opinions out there, and many neighbors are afraid the project will become a blight on the neighborhood, impacting property values, and creating even more traffic challenges for local residents. Knowing there is going to be construction for a few years is tough.
There are no easy answers–but it is clear this project is going to happen–and there might be an opportunity to shape this updated terminal in a positive way.
Are you an architect, an urban planner, a nearshore ecologist, a transportation specialist, a habitat restoration engineer, a fish biologist, a lighting engineer, or have other expertise to share? Would you be willing to provide technical insights on this project, outside of the WSF process to help inform our community? We want to better understand what is possible.
We want to encourage folks to think creatively about how this project could enhance the community, and ask you to weigh-in with WSF at the online open house.
We know you’re busy! But, please consider stepping through the slides at your own pace to learn about the planning work to date and provide feedback, here: https://engage.wsdot.wa.gov/fauntleroy-terminal/
Comments and questions are due by June 13th,2022 for this stage of the planning process. There will be more opportunity to weigh-in later this year.
Tomorrow, June 4th, is the last day to order your plants! Heirloom veggies & flowers planted in certified organic soil. Shop online and pickup in West Seattle Genesee Hill area.
