WintersJawnParticipantHAVE YOU BEEN HARASSED/ FOLLOWED/ HAD PICTURES TAKEN OF YOU BY UNBALANCED NEIGHBORS?
THIS IS NOT OKAY.
THIS IS NOT NORMAL BEHAVIOR.
Don’t let them bully you and intimidate you in your own neighborhood.
PLEASE CONTACT OUR COUNCIL PERSON AND TELL HER YOUR STORY.
LISA HERBOLD
Phone:(206) 684-8801
Email:Lisa.Herbold@seattle.govTHEY ARE DANGEROUS AND CARRY MACE/ TASERS. PLEASE IGNORE THEM.
June 20, 2022 at 2:00 pm #1037330
anonymeParticipantDo you mean the people who take pictures of your illegal off-leash/no scooping behaviors, and carry pepper spray as protection against a possible dog attack – or, just as likely, an attack by a rabid, libertarian dog owner? This behavior is neither dangerous nor illegal; yours is both. You know full well that nobody hates your dog, and your rant should be directed at a mirror.

SueParticipantIf you’re being harassed/threatened by people allegedly carrying mace and tasers, and/or you’re witnessing it, you should probably be calling police first – not our councilperson, nor ranting on a local news site about it.

cheeseWS777ParticipantYes! Flood her mailbox with your storys everybody. Every single one of these politicians love reading them and want to know and be involved with our problems so that they can figure out a resolution with us in a timely matter. I am sure she loves both dog owners and video camera stalkers alike and would gladly spend more then 30 seconds to find out just what is actually going on

aaParticipantLibertarian dog owner? I guess in our times many feel called to pull politics into everything. If only selfish behavior was isolated to one political party.

heartlessParticipantDear Councilperson Herbold,
I am writing to ask for your help. I often take my dogs to a nearby school to let them run around a bit, but lately I’ve been the victim of serious harassment. Someone actually came right up to me and asked me to leave–something about how my dogs should be leashed, how they’re not allowed on school grounds, blah blah blah. Well! I have never felt more personally attacked! This bully was very threatening!
I tried the typical Seattle move of just ignoring them, but then they TOOK MY PICTURE! I am writing you because the police just laughed at me when I tried to get this bully arrested for talking to me and taking my picture. I just want to be able to let my little doggies run around off-leash without anyone calling me out for my illegal and anti-social behavior!
Please help, pretty please.

aaParticipantPeople have been talking about the need for a dog park in the north end of West Seattle for a long time. I’m curious if there has been any work done to create one. I imagine it is like a lot of other community changes that are made when a group sees a need and works on creating awareness, finds the agency involved, and determines the steps needed to create what is desired. Sure, we don’t always get our way and sometimes change happens. Till then, walk the dog or take a few moments to drive to the newly reopened Westcrest dog park.

WintersJawnParticipantDear West Seattle Jesus Cheese,
You have so much time on your hands to hate. I was wondering if we could get you to volunteer your wise ways and countless unused hours to research opening a dog park in west Seattle that way you can help corral all the ILLEGAL WEST SEATTLE MANGEY MUTTS THAT GO AROUND IN PACKS BITING PEOPLE NON STOP.
Can anyone point me to the data on that? Christ Cheese?
Dog save us all!

heartlessParticipantMan, talk about “unbalanced neighbors,” geez…
June 25, 2022 at 3:42 pm #1037794
CarDriverParticipantWintersJawn. You’re certainly a great ambassador for all the dog owners that believe the law doesn’t apply to them.
June 27, 2022 at 3:15 am #1037952
cheeseWS777ParticipantLook, when my gf asked me if we could get a cat, my response was “we canot handle the responsibility of ourselves let alone another animal. “She got one anywayz we are broken up and i am stuck struggling to take care of my cat part time because 8 love him and he depends on me so its my responsibility.
Where i am going with this is if you canot handle the responsibility it is not fair to the animal for you to get one. It is very selfish and an animal is not a toy, it is alotof hard work, although rewarding. If you have no place at home or nearby to exercise your dog, please dont get one or get a different pet. …. But also all you non pet owners / pet haters, recognize that these people just want whats best for their animal and that it is hard work. Take a chill pill if they arent hurting nobody leave them alone. Nobody needs to write any counclemember this is all silly. Thus why i crack the previous jokesJune 27, 2022 at 7:56 am #1037954
reader000Participant“unbalanced neighbors,” geez…

cheeseWS777ParticipantWintersjawn,
While i do somewhat sympathize with your situation, i am bored and i find the way you went about it in your post kinda funny so im pick it apart a little bit pls forgive me lol. First, nowadays here in west seattle, this is normal behavior. In fact since i look “different” there has been cases where people have followed me for blocks waiting for me to do anything illegal so they could take my picture. No lives… Secondly, while this all could be considered bullying, i wish that the bullys ive dealt with this is all they would do. These are some weak bullys lol. Third i doubt that lisa herbold wants all her contact info anywhere in this thread haha. Lastly i find it extra hilarious that you tell us to just “ignore” the crazy dangerous people with the self defense items… Theres my final roast for this subject thankyouJuly 2, 2022 at 12:37 am #1038338
WintersJawnParticipantHey cheese head – I can see you replied but I hope you know I didn’t read it. And I kinda hope it pisses you off. In fact, I hope it a lot;) anyways have fun typing out another vanilla retort with the other passive aggressive Internet people. Lulllz nerds!

PetsarethebestParticipantWOW I’ve read some pretty weird posts/comments on the WSB but this one takes the cake!
July 6, 2022 at 2:32 pm #1038722
GinaParticipantWhat makes this weirder is that someone in the school district has let it slip that all the school playgrounds and fields are considered to be Seattle parks and Parks and Recreation are responsible for upkeep and enforcement! Which explains nothing about this thread but is something else to throw into the mix.

YiLuParticipantaa: Yes there are non-profits doing a lot of the heavy lifting to identify suitable sites for dog parks in this area. They are running into a lot of red tape but are doing an awesome job of surveying locations and putting it in front of city leadership. Check out WSDPC- they are great folks! https://westseattleblog.com/2022/02/another-dog-park-for-west-seattle-heres-whos-actually-working-on-it/
Gina: Most school playgrounds and fields are actually attached Seattle parks that the school has privileged access to and are patrolled accordingly.
What makes Madison Middle School different is that the school actually owns the field so it isn’t patrolled as regularly. To request patrols, Animal control needs 10 days of reports to justify it. Madison Middle School was placed on elevated status in the fall of 2021 (and I believe again in Spring 2022) when it came to their attention that there were often 25-30+ dogs on the field at a time after hours and after receiving enough reports to justify it. They sent out a lot of citations and skipped warnings because of how bad the issue was.
Unfortunately, the Schools don’t have the enforcement arm necessary to enforce a dog ban (which is in place at this location, not at all locations) so they rely on Animal Control to enforce off-leash laws instead. School staff and leadership are understandably frustrated at this situation, especially when they themselves are ignored when they ask people to take their dogs off the field.
What is worse is that several of the off-leash dog owners that use this location are willing to escalate against those who confront them about their behavior or testify in court against them (as witnesses subpoenaed by the city).
The community needs to do something, or the school needs to make dog park hours so parents know when it is safe to take their kids there to play.
