We have talked to the owner and have talked somewhat sensibly with the male “tenet.” They have restricted use of the shower in his house and use the public bathrooms at the library down the street. Cooking is done both in and outdoors. Peeing is done in the yard, orange home depot bucket or ally. Both of the people in the back seem to have alcohol issues, but the female also seems to have a chemical dependency problem and possible mental disorder. Both the homeowner and her companion have apologized for her repeated screaming, cussing, throwing of trash (the used feminine hygiene pad has taken the prize so far), behavior, drunkenness, etc…

Barter for good behavior? Do you have kids? Do you know what happens when you barter for better behavior or grades – you lose influence and it makes the unwanted behavior worse. Imagine a 40 year old drunk kid… Bartering is not an option. Bees though…

Glad to hear it! Looks/sounds like a really awesome display. Now if someone would just return the giant inflatable Oogie Boogie, lifted from our neighbor’s Halloween display. We miss the big green guy!

so…a few questions come to mind. Where do they cook? Where do they bathe? Brush their teeth? Wash their clothes? Does this guy provide them with running water? Do they clean up after themselves? Get rid of garbage? What do they do if they have to go in the middle of the night? Just go in the yard? Inquiring minds want to know (maybe – lol).

If you have talked to the home owner about it, and he is fine with them living there, did you at least raise concerns about there behavior? If he still doesn’t care, have you tried talking to them directly? (As with the rules of Rants)

I guess if talking doesn’t work, liquid ass is always an option. Or getting drunk and having fun. Or competing with the extacy. But really you could just talk to them and explain that they are lucky they found a place to stay. Perhaps even barter with them. One home cooked meal a week in exchange for their respect for the neighborhood. That could work.

We played at the school playground on the 5th and these idiots left behind so much trash from the night before. Seriously – it’s like bombs going off. I can’t wait till one of these idiots blows their face off. It happens. It happened to our neighbor growing up.

If you need a good laugh, go through the reviews of the “Liquid A” link from comment 7. Super hilarious! If that won’t work, I don’t know what will.

Last night a group of young people were lighting A LOT of fireworks in the Fairmount Springs neighborhood. In the street. On lawns.

One of the neighbors chased them off, after having a firecracker tossed at him (luckily it was a dud);and was told that these hooligans took off toward/across 35th.

This was definitely a malicious act, which could have easily become tragic if not deadly.

JoB — I am waiting in breathless anticipation to hear your definition of ‘wealthy neighborhoods’ … SeaTac? Rainier Valley? Beacon Hill? Capitol Hill? It seems to me that using your definition the Monorail would have connected the equally ‘wealthy neighborhoods’ of Ballard and West Seattle with downtown in the middle …

And, tell me how the Monorail would have gotten dawsonct to Alki? Or to the VA? Or crosstown between Green Lake and View Ridge? BTW, taking the Monorail to the VA actually would have required taking Metro to a WS Monorail station and at least one bus from the SODO station to the VA.

The purpose of fixed guideway mass transportation, whether it be heavy rail, light rail, monorail or whatever, is to connect locations with high ridership to high demand locations (note the key word ‘mass’.) It will always require that riders drive or take a local bus to a station, take the fixed guideway transportation to a destination station, typically employment centers or colleges, and then walk or take a bus to the final destination. Therefore, the ultimate solution is what is referred to as a ‘multi-modal system’ with commuter rail (Sounder), light rail (Link), streetcar (SLUS), express bus (ST Express), local bus (Metro, Pierce, Community Transit), vanpools & carpools, car sharing, park&ride lots, HOV lanes, etc. Just like the Portland Tri-Met system you keep extolling.

And, yes, it should typically take a while longer to travel by public transportation than it does by car, since you are sharing a ride to share expenses and therefore stopping periodically to pick up other riders. The benefit is that you don’t have the stress of driving, looking for (and probably paying for) parking, insurance, maintenance, etc. Do you really want to pay for a public transportation system that allows everyone to get from any Point A to any Point B at the same speed it would take to drive there? The Monorail wouldn’t have done that any better than the current system you decry. And, the Monorail is the perfect example of a poorly planned system that likely would have been poorly utilized with an extremely high cost per trip. West Seattle and Ballard simply aren’t high trip generators for a capital-intensive project like the Monorail. Hopefully, Metro’s upcoming WS and Ballard RapidRide routes, which mimic the Monorail route, will provide the necessary capacity at a more reasonable cost per trip.

    Did that:

“They were “invited” to live there by the home owner in exchange for yard work.”

He doesn’t get out much and is seemingly happy with the arrangement. I don’t see how “offing them” or getting blindly drunk will rid the yard of tarps, beer bottles, the pee bucket, or our new friends. Looking for both helpful and LEGAL input on fixing the problem.

Well, there is always murdering them and burying them in your own backyard, but that isn’t exactly legal. Perhaps you could try to compete with the screams of extacy, or get more drunk then they are and crash the tent.

Or perhaps you could just talk to the owners of the house and find out what the story is.

After two years of constant noise and trash and parties, the cops finally took the instruments from the rock band across the street. It was BIG news for all the neighbors and made the West Seattle Harald! It has been quite for a week….

Now, I hear that a couple has moved into a tent in the back yard two houses down from the party house. The were “invited” to live there by the home owner in exchange for yard work. REALLY?!?! There are 600+K homes on this street! So far, we have all had the joy of a drunk screaming woman falling in the front yard, a guy peeing in the ally, trash in the neighbors yards, and the couple next to them had a family BBQ interrupted with screams of ecstasy coming from the tent. We called the city and was told that nothing could be done. There is no Seattle City municipal code that makes it illegal to have a homeless couple living in a tent in your back yard…

Anybody have any ideas about how to help make this all go away?

    dawsonct…

my point is that LINK is not the beginning of a transportation system that will get those who can’t afford private transportation from point A to point B in a timely manner…

LINK is the start of a transportation system that will connect wealthy neighborhoods with resources..

No it shouldn’t take that long to get there from here on public transportation.. but it does.

Poor planning results in public transportation systems that are underutilized…

    Dunno –

First of all, I did not see the Ch. 13 coverage of the HP mess, however, I did talk to a number of other residents of HP.

Trust me. Most were pissed. And disgusted by the lack of respect. Good neighbors willing to clean-up other people’s trash does NOT infer acceptance.

    WHAT IS BLOCK WATCH?

Block Watch is a national program that is based on the principle that neighbors working together are the first and best line of defense against crime.

    HOW DOES BLOCK WATCH WORK?

Block Watch really just organizes and extends what you are probably already doing on an informal basis. We tend to know and watch out for our closest neighbors, but a group of neighbors at one end of the block who are doing this may not know the group of neighbors at the other end of the block. Organizing a Block Watch makes this attitude of watchfulness more systematic, and provides a block map with neighbors’ names and telephone numbers that can be used in case of an emergency. Block Watch is simple to begin, and can improve the security of your neighborhood while increasing your sense of community.

    PLEASE INCLUDE MY HOUSEHOLD

Please try to have at least one member of your family attend. If not, please made sure we get your name, address, phone number and email address so that we can make sure you are included in the Block Watch and notified of any future neighborhood issues.

Do you have an e-mail you are willing to post? WSB, please feel free to give mine to HunterG. I would love to continue this conversation in a less public forum. I may be able to help you identify one of the others living in the apartment.

And just to get it out of the way…(wink) yes I have informed the management… we have been working with Detective Ballew of the SPD.

    My rant…

It drives me absolutely crazy that thieves, the same thieves that stole from me, and many others in our area are living in the apartment building a stones throw away from mine and I can’t do anything about it… legally. They stole from me, my neighbor and countless others – one is awaiting a court date, but what really will happen with the glutted system we have?

It seriously aggravates me and really makes me angry. I have made it a habit to get aquatinted with my neighbors, these folks know i know who they are….I see them now on almost a regular basis going out of their apartment building. AAARRRRHHH.

That was my rant. If you live in the Gatewood area, keep an eye out for a white male, skinny, unhealthy looking with a short mohawk (brown hair). They operate from the building right behind the 76 station… they have about 4 to 5 people working in their group, one female the rest males, all caucasian in their mid to late twenties. One of them is named Joel. They are stealing for drug (meth) money.

If we all keep our eyes out maybe we can catch them in the act and get the people that they have stolen from justice!!

not understanding the “terror of it all”. sitting here reading about the woman in Gig Harbor who is now homeless because her neighbors, while she was away on Sunday evening, set off fireworks in front of her house…and burned it down. Or reading about the 11 yo Bothell boy who, this morning, walked on the beach where people had set their fireworks off last night. He found what appeared to be a dud..and a lighter lying nearby. He lit it…short fuse…not a dud…will probably lose his hand.

Oh, but it’s a celebration, only one or two days a year..get over it…our country’s birthday. And a little boy will remember it always. He got to ride in a helicopter to Harborview.

That’s the terror for a lot of people.

We’re lucky that we had a cool, wet day this year. Less fire damage for sure. But, geez, if you have to set them off, clean up after yourself, and burn no one’s house down but your own. After all, it’s all in fun.

Coming home last night from Des Moines fireworks show a car at the intersection of SW 106th & 35th Ave SW going northbound crossed the intersection all the while the radiator smoking and most of the front passenger side smashed in. We can tell you where the car owner lives since they just drove home.
