Seattle Public Utilities sent us this notice, which is being circulated in the neighborhood but is likely of wider interest:
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is upgrading the water pump station in your neighborhood. The SW Spokane St Pump Station, constructed in 1928, supplies drinking water and fire protection services to parts of West Seattle. Due to its age, this critical facility is at risk of failure during an earthquake, and many of its systems need immediate repair or replacement.
Adjacent to the pump station, SPU will be conducting construction in the roadway for utility installation associated with the project. Travelers can expect periodic full and partial road closures for up to two months beginning in February 2025. During this period, the roadway may be open to traffic with or without construction flaggers depending on the construction schedule. Please plan additional time for travel and follow the signed detour route during full road closures. Periodic full and partial road closures are necessary for safe and timely completion of the work. This work ensures SPU can continue to provide reliable and safe drinking water and fire protection services to our customers.
LOCATION
This work will be done along SW Spokane St and 33rd Ave SW, adjacent to the pump station. Please see the map for the work location and detour route.SCHEDULE
Expect approximately two months of roadway impacts beginning as early as February 3. During the work period, SW Spokane St. may be closed or restricted. During road closures, please follow signed detours. Construction crews are expected to work Monday – Friday, 7 am – 5 pm. However, the road may remain closed for nights and weekends depending on the work schedule. Please note that the start date, duration, and working hours are subject to change due to permitting, weather, crew availability, and other factors.
You can find a bit more about the pump-station project in this SPU document.

(Added: Cropped screenshot of 35th/Fauntleroy camera showing SPD blocking EB side)

7:38 PM: Police just told dispatch they have brought the person safely out of danger and they’ll be taken to a hospital for evaluation. The bridge will be reopening.
7:56 PM: Eastbound bridge now fully reopened, officers told dispatch.
If you are, or someone you know is, contemplating self-harm, the 988 hotline is available 24/7.
12:07 AM: SFD ad SPD are on their way to the Fauntleroy end of the westbound West Seattle Bridge, where the live traffic camera shows a flipped car.

The one SFD unit originally sent was canceled quickly, indicating no serious injuries.
12:31 AM: There’s also been no indication of another vehicle involved. Police remain on scene awaiting a tow truck.
12:43 AM: The tow truck has arrived, and they’re expecting to have to block traffic for a bit while the tow crew gets the car hooked up and righted.
1:02 AM: The car’s been towed and the scene is cleared.
8:11 PM: We followed up with SPD today and heard back tonight that the driver was arrested for investigation of DUI and reckless endangerment.
11:08 PM: Yet another street-blocking crash of note. This time, police and fire are in the 4200 block of Beach Drive, where it’s reported that the driver of a Subaru Crosstrek hit a parked Ford Bronco, after which the Crosstrek caught fire. No report of injuries so far but Beach Drive is reported to be blocked both ways.
11:29 PM: Thanks to the readers who’ve sent video from the scene. The clip above was texted by Janna.
11:36 PM: Officers just told dispatch that the street is open again.
For the second time this afternoon, a crash is under investigation involving a car and school bus. This time it’s at (updated) 4th/Roxbury and we’re told traffic is “a mess” as a result. This one’s being investigated by King County Sheriff’s Deputies so we don’t have as much info as we would if it were in the city limits, but Metro has issued a bus reroute alert.

3:42 PM: The one SFD unit sent to the scene has already cleared, which means no serious injuries, if any (we’ll be following up). They’re also getting some traffic through – Metro buses, at least – after telling dispatch the bus was able to move to the side of the street.
