SPEAKING OF FERRIES … today the Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth route has some vessel-shuffling.

UPDATE: West Seattle Bridge crash cleared after 2 hours, including jersey-barrier repair

2:30 PM: A crash on the westbound side of the west end of the West Seattle Bridge is affecting EB traffic too because of jersey-barrier displacement. SDOT is on scene.

3:40 PM: Still one lane blocked each way, according to the live camera accessible via the city map.

4:18 PM: Still working on the jersey barrier.

4:28 PM: SDOT has just cleared the scene and it’s now back to normal both ways. Apologies but we don’t have any information about whether anyone was hurt in the crash itself – from the incident log, it doesn’t appear anyone was transported by medic unit, so if there were injuries, they weren’t major.

If you’re up at this hour, you might need to know about this Saturday night/Sunday morning traffic alert. From WSDOT:

Rain this weekend will not affect an overnight closure of the northbound Interstate 5 off-ramp to the West Seattle Bridge, Spokane Street, and Columbian Way.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will close the ramp from 11 p.m. Saturday, April 14, to 6 a.m. Sunday, April 15. The work is part of the #ReviveI5 project to rehabilitate about 13 miles of the interstate between Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Northeast Ravenna Boulevard.

So even though the all-weekend closure was postponed, this one-night closure is on. Here’s what’s planned in the weeks ahead.

One more reminder – Sunday morning, if you’re not participating in the Cascade Bicycle Club’s Emerald City Ride, you won’t be using northbound Highway 99. From about 6 am to 11:30 am, it’ll be closed from here to Western Avenue; 6 to 9:30 am, it’ll also be closed north of that stretch, all the way north to Bridge Way. Here’s the full WSDOT alert. (The full list of road-access changes for the ride is here.)

8:02 AM: SFD is being dispatched to a crash at 10th and Elmgrove in Highland Park.

8:30 AM: If you are driving or riding through Fauntleroy, Kersti texted an alert – there’s glass from an apparent broken window in the street on California SW by Fauntleroy Schoolhouse. It’s been reported.

ADVANCE ALERT: 3 weekend traffic notes

 |   West Seattle news | West Seattle traffic alerts

This is info we routinely include in weekday morning traffic coverage, looking ahead to the weekend starting at midweek, and day-of when relevant. But given one big change for the weekend ahead, we thought we’d mention this all now:

I-5 WORK POSTPONED: If you had heard about the plan to close the NB I-5 exit to the West Seattle Bridge all weekend long starting this Friday night – never mind. WSDOT has announced that it’s postponed because of weather. No new date set yet.

NB VIADUCT CLOSED SUNDAY MORNING: Remember the Emerald City Ride we told you about back in January, with a chance to ride on the soon(ish)-to-be-demolished Alaskan Way Viaduct? This Sunday morning (April 8th) is when it’s happening, and NB Highway 99 will be closed starting at 6 am from East Marginal Way South to the Bridge Way exit north of the Aurora Bridge; the section from the Battery Street Tunnel northward will reopen by 9:30 am, but the AWV itself will stay closed until 11:30 am. Here’s the full list of roads/streets/highways involved in the ride and when closures are planned. (And if you want to register for the ride – here’s how.)

CRANE INSTALLATION: If you missed it in this update, Saturday is when tower-crane installation is planned at the Luna Apartments/PCC site at 2749 California SW. We’ll be checking back for specifics before week’s end.

TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Wednesday updates

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)

6:59 AM: Good morning. We start with word of a crash just reported a few minutes ago at Fauntleroy Way SW and SW Graham. SFD is responding.

No transit alerts so far.

WEEKEND ROAD-WORK ALERT: If you expect to be driving on northbound I-5 toward the West Seattle Bridge this weekend, here are closures you need to know about.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Driver hits utility pole on Admiral Way

8:21 PM: Avoid Admiral Way west of Schmitz Park – there’s a significant emergency response after a driver hit a utility pole on the uphill (eastbound) side of the road. We just happened onto the scene after leaving a meeting nearby; it appears there’s other damage further west on the same side of the road, before the pole – which looks to be leaning – stopped the car. We don’t know the status of the driver, but the SFD response does not include a medic unit, which suggests no major injuries.

8:23 PM: The last SFD units have just left; City Light and Seattle Police are handling it from here on out.

9:23 PM: Thanks to Don Brubeck for the update that Admiral is now closed both ways at the crash scene.
