WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Robbery; purse theft; Alki arrest …

Three more cases in West Seattle Crime Watch:

EARLY-MORNING ROBBERY: We asked police about a robbery call early this morning in the 8100 block of 24th SW. The report says the victim walked outside his house around 3:40 am and was approached by someone who “demanded money and struck the victim in the head.” The robber took “an unknown amount of money from the victim, kicked him, and ran away.” Police searched, with a K9 team, but didn’t find the robber; the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

PURSE THEFT: Tara reports that around noon today, her purse was taken from an outdoor workout room in the 3300 block of 59th SW. It’s described as a “small black leather long shoulder-strap purse” containing “a pink leather wallet with driver’s license, bank cards,” and cash.

ALKI ARREST: Another case from Alki – we found this one after noticing a familiar name on the jail register. 25-year-old Nickolas Osborne is the man arrested by police back in July for an Alki stabbing death a year earlier, but not charged (as explained here). He has been in jail for two weeks, charged with criminal trespassing, because of an incident in which he showed up outside an Alki residence and insisted he had to be allowed inside to get his things. But he had never lived or even visited there. The resident told police this wasn’t the first time he showed up at the house; she and her boyfriend tried to get him to leave but he wouldn’t. Police were finally called. He continued refusing to leave; they arrested him. His bail is set at $3,000 and he’s been through a mental-health assessment, with a competency hearing scheduled tomorrow. As noted in our summer coverage of the stabbing case, Osborne’s record includes a case from March of last year, in which he set an SPD car on fire while Southwest Precinct officers were taking him to jail for allegedly harassing Lincoln Park/Lowman Beach visitors.

It’s amazing how much damaged, death and destruction one person can wreak on a community, all the while blacked-out on alcohol.  I wish people would think first before giving cash to homeless panhandlers like Nickolas Osborne.  Donating to charity or giving them food leads to much better outcomes… for everybody.

Nickolas Osborne is a name I’ve seen repeatedly in the Blog. He is a known trouble-maker in our community, directly responsible for the death of another human, plus other well-documented violent confrontations. Any chance you can publish a booking photo? If I knew what he looked like, I might choose to walk on the other side of the street.

There are no photos available unless someone has spent time in the state prison system, which as far as I can tell he has not.

I have a rather blurry photo of him taken on the night he was arrested on my property.  Having encountered him more than I would have liked, I would definitely describe him as not well.  Crossing the street would be a smart move.  Finding him help would be the smartest move, but it doesn’t appear that our city has any facilities to handle this sort of problem.

Mr. Osborne “set a police car on fire”, allegedly stabbed a man to death (yes I read the unfortunate circumstances), and is allegedly barging into people’s homes.  My goodness, it may be time to start filing more serious charges and upping bail considerably.  When I was young, it seemed even one of these instances would warrant prison time for a person, or at least 2 years probation and court-mandated counseling.Things have changed a lot.   Just some counseling and medication may really help this young man, even though the draconian act of brandishing someone with a criminal record for life destroys their chance of ever becoming employed.   Perhaps a lawyer can obtain an adjudicated sentence?

I’m 90% sure from the blurry photo that he is the man I saw harassing two black men on Alki this past summer.I couldn’t clearly hear the verbal exchange they were having, but it was my perception that he initiated and elevated the confrontation (because he went out of his way to stand toe to toe with one of them). From what I witnessed, the two black men punched his lights out and then drove off. I would describe their actions as ‘self defense.’ I was on the phone with 911 when I saw the fight, and another witness came up to me and said ‘I got their license plate,’ as if they were the aggressors.I can’t help but think that Nickolas Osborne initiated the confrontation that resulted in a young man being killed. I can’t help but think that the ‘witness’ who saw the two Hispanic men fighting him only saw part of the confrontation, and assumed that they were the aggressors for whatever reason.Sad.
