About the medic response at 44th/Andover

img_9473

A Good Samaritan just saved somebody’s life northwest of The Junction. Kelly texted the photo, explaining:

I was just driving down 44th near Andover and found a man face down all by himself, nobody around, I called 911, they had me roll (him) over and do chest compressions until the medics got here. …Doesn’t seem to be anybody who knows him in the neighborhood, he looks like he’s in maybe late 60s.

The medics have just taken the man to Harborview Medical Center. Kelly says he did not have a wallet or ID on him but did have cash and an iPhone. If you are looking for someone who might be this man, we would advise calling 911 to start with.

Calling 911 isn’t really going to help you either. By law they can’t give out names. Unless you know for certain who it is you are better off calling harborview.

I was thinking in terms of anyone looking for someone whose name they would know, and who would at least be able to refer to this particular incident, since getting someone admitted to the hospital and on the record takes a while in my experience, but thanks. Even if someone calls the person’s phone, I don’t know if that will help as it was “locked,” Kelly noted.

Just glad there are still good people in this world! Thank you to the person that stopped and got CPR started right away!!

Thanks to the person who stopped. Must of been scary for both of you but I am sure his friends/family will be very grateful you did. I don’t know either of you but thank-you. Gives me hope in humanity.

amazing, given the week we’ve all experienced, to hear about the good deeds that continue to bubble to the surface.  thank you to the person who was kind enough to stop, care and call. let’s hope it made all the difference.

To the person that stopped you are a true hero and a real citizen I don’t know this man but that is truly wonderful what you did for him thanks

    Kelly, you are awesome.

Very heartening.  Yes, after the week we’ve had and the future we face, an act of kindness in our dear West Seattle is a Bright light

I don’t carry my phone when I walk because I don’t like to be weighed down.   I carry my keys with a small pouch in which I put a copy of my driver license  and on the back I have listed my family contact numbers, just in case I trip or pass out, get hit by a car, etc., and cannot communicate.  as an alternative, for those who do carry their phones, you can make an ICE (in case of emergency) list with those contacts.

My candidate was not elected but I choose  to follow this thinking.

“It’s better to light a candle than to curse the darkness” –

    ancient Chinese proverb.

Kelly thanks for lighting a candle!

It would be great if there was a picture of this person as that could help in the search of family members.  Thanks to the true Samaritan for stopping and rendering aid!

Come on guys, stop making everything about the election already. If you’re so surprised that someone decided to help another person who appeared to be dead – and that’s a miracle from the heavens – perhaps you’re way more cynical than you care to believe.

Good people existed last week and they exist today. They might have even voted differently from you!

Thanks for the neighbor who made the call and did their part. And good advice in regards to keeping some form of emergency contact information on you (in your wallet, pocket, et cetera).

      What he said…

  • WSJoe November 14, 2016 (1:01 pm)

Do people really believe that an election is going to change whether someone would step in and help someone in dire need?  Really people, you need to get a grip.  People are going to help each other regardless, before or after.  I don’t think personal character changed overnight.  “oh wow, bad election, not going to help that person with CPR”????

  • Westside4Lyfe November 14, 2016 (1:18 pm)

FYI – there were 3 people who stopped to help. The other 2 assisted in applying CPR and moving the man onto his back. They are not credited along with Kelly but I think all 3 of them deserve recognition for their quick action. My thoughts are with the man, I hope he is able to make a full recovery.

    • Kelly November 14, 2016 (3:46 pm)

Yes!!! You blew in and left quickly for your dr appt, please give a name thank you too! as I was there for many minutes before alone could not believe the streets were so quiet!! and I stayed after to make sure he was alive- fingers crossed!! the streets were so quiet!! what was the song you sang???

      • westside4lyfe November 14, 2016 (4:27 pm)

KELLY – I’m not the one who was there, just heard from a friend. Not sure what song they were singing but my best guess is Bee Gees Stayin Alive? It’s what they teach in CPR classes, the song’s beat is what you follow for the compression only CPR style. I hope it was enough to save the man’s life. I’m glad you were all there to help him.

    @ Jon

My friend teaches kindergarten in a north Seattle public school.  She spent last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday comforting scared and crying children who think their parents are going to be taken away.

So yes some things are about the election.  And will continue to be.

  • wb November 14, 2016 (1:32 pm)

Kelly, many others have said it, but thanks for looking out for this man.  That is my neighborhood.

  • waikikigirl November 14, 2016 (1:43 pm)

@Jon/WSJoe… I was thinking the exact same thing…what in the heck did the Election have to do with Kelly stepping up and helping someone down on the ground?! GEEZ people get on with your life.

Kelly you are a good person to help!

    • Jon November 14, 2016 (2:42 pm)

      Agreed 100%.

And thanks to the others involved who stopped to assist.

  • Joe King November 14, 2016 (1:57 pm)

I would like to personally thank Kelly. What an inspiration! I would totally vote for you.

  • Jeannie November 14, 2016 (2:53 pm)

I think the point is that, while so many of us are upset about a dumb, dangerous, inexperienced, morally and literally bankrupt hate-filled man being elected, it’s nice to read an uplifting story for a change.

Of course, a Good Samaritan is a Good Samaritan, regardless of the election.

  • dhg November 14, 2016 (2:54 pm)

What did it have to do with the recent election?  People are so depressed, and the news gets even more depressing (Trump appoints known white supremacist to White House!).  Hearing news that isn’t related to that and is pleasant is like balm for the brain.  That is all.

If you are going to make an accusation — [lease name names and provide evidence

  • unknown November 14, 2016 (3:43 pm)

Westside4lyfe….original story never said anything of these other people that helped but TO ALL you are GOOD PEOPLE!

For the others who think the election has anything to do with all of this…GEEZ!

    • WSB November 14, 2016 (3:50 pm)

Kelly is the only person I heard from. Glad others helped; we can’t report what we don’t know, and we actually generally wouldn’t report this kind of thing – there are medical responses all the time – except that Kelly had contacted us worried that the person wouldn’t/couldn’t be IDd without ID, so just in case somebody was looking for this gentleman … TR

  • Bill & Judith November 14, 2016 (4:46 pm)

Thank you Kelly. We wish we could have stayed to see how he was doing. Have been thinking about him all day. I hope they find his family and he will be alright. Yes Staying Alive is the song I sing for CPR. Bill has thankfully never had to use his CPR in the 35 years until today. You did an awesome job!

Standard procedure get out there and truly open your eyes and be available people need a hand out there sometimes be it like the example here or countless other simple ways to lend a hand regardless of “current news”.

    Hi to all the commenters,

I’m Bill (aka; William V King III) and am the survivor. What can I say other than how fortunate I was! In particular to have such kind and thoughtful neighbors that are willing to be involved!

I’ve met with the ETM folks at station 32 and am reaching out to Kelly.

Sorry, comment time is over.
